My Overpowered Demon System

Azrael stood in the centre of the lightning storm.

The difficulty of creating an environmental type technique did not lay in spreading the element into the area.

No, that was simple.

The real problem lay in the creator’s ability to remain focused enough to maintain control over the essence.

Their first exercise in Sylvester’s class surfaced in his mind.

Writing their names with essence until it stopped fading.

"Thankfully, focus is my main forte," he muttered with a smile.

Walking through the field of lightning, a slight smile tugged at his lips.

"But demons sure are competitive creatures."

He reached one of the dummies lining the arsenal and activated one.

His body flipped backward before the dummy’s sword could cleave through him.

Landing back in the centre of the field, he snapped his fingers.

The lightning swirled before a lance of pure lightning pierced through the dummy from beneath.

Azrael smiled.

After watching angels successfully use their dominion system, demons had created their own type, even if it was inferior.

Azrael continued practicing with his lightning element, every second spent refining it making him better.

Unknowingly, his Fast Learner skill had activated, boosting his comprehension of the element as he practiced.

Time passed in a blink.

Azrael released a muffled hiss as he stopped using the element.

He slumped to the floor, his landing making a funny sound that reverberated through the room.

[Are you sure you want to use the fragment in your current state?]

The system asked as Azrael sat.

Azrael nodded calmly.

’Yes, why not?’ He replied. ’At least this way I am already prepared for the pain since I am tired.’

The system was quiet for the first few seconds after Azrael spoke.

Then it sent a raised brow emoji. Immediately after, it spoke.

[I don’t know what rules guide your logic, but I don’t think you are capable of thinking normally.]

Azrael shrugged the words off without bothering to reply.

’Unlock the Original Sin Fragment,’ Azrael said.

[Are you sure you want to continue with the unsealing of the Original Sin Fragment?]

The system flashed in his face.

Azrael nodded, his gaze calm as if he had seen the end of the question before it was asked.

Suddenly, the screen shifted to his inventory.

A single purple broken shard sat within it.

In Azrael’s own eyes, the shard shot out of its slot, piercing straight into his head.

A few seconds passed.

No change.

’Were you exaggerating the pain?’ Azrael asked with raised brows.

[Now.]

The system said. Not as a reply. More like a quiet statement to itself.

At the same time, Azrael’s body seemed to explode from within.

His body turned so pale it looked like paper.

Outside the training ground, Jasmine furrowed her brows as she watched him.

"What is he doing?" She muttered.

According to her knowledge, built over millennia, there was no method of cultivation that looked like this.

"Is he trying to kill himself?" She muttered again.

That did not seem too far off. After all, Azrael might have gotten scared by her threat.

"Well, I should at least call his parents so I am not held accountable for his death."

Instead of intervening, Jasmine chose to call his parents so they could witness the scene themselves.

Azrael continued to writhe in pain.

Blood began to trickle from his heart.

It was still golden like before.

But on a closer look, a black sheen had begun to wrap around each drop.

Like a pipe drained of all its water, the veins began to absorb the drops.

Within seconds, Azrael’s eyes regained a bit of vitality. His body began to gain color once again.

The process took exactly ten seconds before it stopped.

The pain still moved through Azrael’s body, but it was calmer now.

’System, do you have any pain neutralizer?’ Azrael could not help but ask.

[We do,] the system replied with a laughing emoji. [There is one that lasts for two hours and blocks all pain receptors.]

Azrael finally understood just how deliberate the system was being. The system that was quick to capitalize on every business opportunity had never once introduced the one thing Azrael had needed most since arriving in this world.

With a thought, he purchased the pain neutralizer.

Outside the room, Abaddon and Lilura watched the screen with mild fear.

Behind them, Dante stood with a smile, as if Azrael’s pain were some kind of entertainment.

"Aunt Jasmine, do you want to go one round?" Dante asked directly.

Abaddon turned back to look at him.

Beneath his calm, rage was brewing like a wildfire barely containing itself.

But Lilura was not about to swallow hers. She let it out immediately.

"Do you think this is a joke? Your brother might die at any moment and all you can think about is a spar with your sociopathic grand aunt."

"Not like me staying here changes anything," Dante said with a shrug.

"That is exactly why you are my favorite person in this entire clan. You understand me perfectly," Jasmine said.

Both of them flickered out of sight in the next instant.

Lilura stared at where they had just stood.

Her head shifted toward Abaddon instinctively.

Abaddon only sighed.

"I wonder how he got her character with how far apart they are in the bloodline."

They went quiet after that and returned their gaze to Azrael.

Azrael had eased almost fully.

Thanks to the pain neutralizer, he was able to rest.

But he still could not stand.

Even if he was not feeling the pain, the damage was still ongoing.

Then everything changed.

All it took was a split second.

It felt too sudden and jarring.

It was not pain.

It felt like something far above him had descended into his body.

Something too heavy for him to hold.

In his daze, the system’s notification appeared, breaking him from whatever thought he was sinking into.
