My Overpowered Demon System

Chapter 89: ENVIRONMENTAL TYPE TECHNIQUE

Azrael sat cross legged in the underground training room. He had not done or started anything yet. All he did was rethink the moment when Jasmine had known his thought even though Stable Mind was still active.

It had come as genuine shock. After all, since getting Stable Mind, he had believed his mind was completely unreadable and he could think whatever he wanted.

But Jasmine had gone against that entirely.

’How was she able to read my mind?’ Azrael asked the system.

At this point, even if it cost him SP, he was willing to pay.

All he wanted to know was why Jasmine had been able to access what was on his mind.

[It might be related to one of her skills. Something that bypasses restrictions,] the system said.

Azrael shook his head. ’But she has been unable to read my mind since I got the skill. Why was she suddenly able to now?’

He thought about it further. ’Or does it require the user to acknowledge that the skill exists before it starts working?’

[That is also a viable theory,] the system replied after a brief pause.

Azrael nodded slowly.

After a few seconds, he stopped thinking about it.

’The Original Sin Fragment then,’ Azrael said, flexing his fingers in preparation.

[Do you confirm the unsealing of the Original Sin Fragment?] The system asked.

Azrael gulped.

Slowly, he shook his head.

"System, how painful would it be?" He asked aloud.

[One of the most painful things you will ever experience, if not the most painful. Your bloodline is going to be altered as the fragment fuses with it.]

The system’s tone was flat and cold. It even felt as though it was trying to dissuade him from continuing.

Azrael shivered.

"Something worse than everything I have felt before," he muttered.

"Why are you just sitting there doing nothing?" Just then, the voice thundered through the training room, cold as ice.

Azrael looked around to check if Jasmine had somehow appeared behind him.

There was no one.

He shook his head and stood up.

’I will use it during the cultivation session,’ Azrael said to the system internally.

His mind had not yet come to terms with the level of pain he had been warned about.

[You can use it whenever you want,] the system replied. [But really? You cannot endure a little pain?]

It accompanied the words with a facepalm and crying emoji.

’Where did this version of you go? I had started to think someone had taken you away,’ Azrael said with a smile, ignoring the comment.

[I was only trying to give you space,] the system replied, raising its head with pride.

’With how unhelpful you are, how much more space could you give?’ Azrael asked.

Just then, he felt a sudden pressure press against his body.

"Have you grown so arrogant that you no longer regard my words?" The voice tore through space, ringing in Azrael’s ears like the loudest gong in existence.

Azrael groaned as he covered his ears.

Jasmine continued regardless of the pain Azrael was feeling.

"You might be able to revive yourself from death, but can you break free from my seal?"

The words were a threat. Pure, unhidden, and direct.

It was as though she was reminding him that he was merely an ant who could be trapped even if it refused to die.

The pressure retracted in the next instant, everything disappearing as though it had never existed.

Azrael’s chest eased as it left him.

’She is genuinely unhinged,’ Azrael said to the system.

[Back to using me to hide your thoughts,] the system said with a lighter emoji.

Azrael ignored it completely.

He focused on training, genuinely afraid that Jasmine might carry her threat through.

His earlier battle with her surfaced in his mind, every scene replaying itself with perfect clarity.

It was as though he was reliving the fight, but from a spectator’s perspective this time.

Every flaw became apparent. Every place he could have chosen a different technique revealed itself.

And most of all, Jasmine’s manipulation of lightning. It had reached a stage where she even absorbed the essence within Azrael’s own lightning to power her counterattack.

Although he had not had the chance to study her techniques during the fight itself, thinking back on them now, everything she had done was perfectly calculated.

"That is what true control looks like," he muttered.

A goal formed in his mind at that moment. ’Until I master lightning to a sufficient level, I am not splitting my attention into another element.’

Although it felt restrictive, he knew it was the right choice at his current stage.

Lightning began to dance out of his body in short purple sparks that spread into the surrounding space like a flood.

The air itself seemed to groan under the immense weight traveling through it.

Cracks began to appear on the tiles as the lightning crossed their surface.

But everything was mended before the lightning could advance another meter.

All of it had happened within a single breath, and within that breath, the entire room had been covered in a web of lightning that threatened to burn any being that dared to enter it.

Standing calmly within it, Azrael smiled as the design of the technique formed in his mind.

"This feels similar to a domain, but I think it should work," he mused, flexing his fingers to begin.

Outside the training room, Jasmine stared at Azrael’s projection through the ethereal screen of essence that had materialized in front of her.

She squinted as she watched his next move.

A flicker of something crossed her eyes. Confusion, or amusement. It was difficult to tell which.

"Quite ambitious, attempting an environmental type technique from the very start," she muttered beneath her breath. "He clearly does not know how to measure his own reach."

Although she said those words, the spark in her eyes remained impossible to hide.

There was one thing she wanted to confirm from this training session. Whether this boy, who had grasped everything within moments since he arrived, would be able to pull off an environmental type technique on his very first attempt.

All her focus poured into the screen.
