Chapter 610: Route 2
~Azure S. POV~
[Unova Region, Later, Route 2]
The sun over Route 2 washed the undulating, verdant hills in a soft, butter-yellow glow, casting long, elegant shadows from the slender, wind-swept saplings that dotted the cobblestone-paved path. It was a peaceful stretch of land, sandwiched neatly between the bustling modernity of Accumula Town.
The air smelled of damp earth, sweet wild berries, and the ozone tang of fresh morning dew. Right now, however, that peaceful atmosphere was being thoroughly disrupted by the sound of crackling static electricity and squeaks of absolute competitive vigor.
Black stood with his fists clenched tightly at his sides, his eyes wide, tracking every micro-movement of the battlefield. He yelled, his voice carrying that characteristic, red-hot intensity that could wake the dead, "Tula, use String Shot to anchor yourself! Don't let her get the high ground!"
*Zzzzt*
A thick, pale-yellow thread of webbing shot through the air, anchoring onto a smooth boulder beside the path. Black's newest team member, a scuttling, long-legged Galvantula named Tula, hoisted himself upward with surprising agility.
He had been caught only yesterday—abandoned by a trainer who had bought into Ghetsis's radical, fear-mongering rhetoric about "liberation"—and yet, his movements were already syncing up with Black's relentless drive.
A few feet away, perched upon a flattened tree stump, my own newest addition was putting on a clinic of speed and finesse. I called out, "Keep your footing light, Minccino! Use Tickle to break his concentration, then pivot with Swift!"
I was leaning casually against a wooden fence post with Pikachu settled securely over my left shoulder, Eevee curled into a fluffy collar around my neck, and Pichu (Mew) poking its head out from the breast pocket of my jacket.
Minccino—a sweet, impeccably groomed little normal-type whom I had adopted earlier today after an Ace Trainer cowardly released her during the Accumula Town speech—spun like a silver top.
Her large, expressive eyes gleamed with a newfound, fierce determination. She dodged Tula's incoming web with a graceful backflip, landed softly on her tail, and unleashed a barrage of glowing, star-shaped projectiles that zipped harmlessly past the electric spider's legs, serving as a clean tactical warning rather than a damaging blow.
*CLAP*
I praised, clapping my hands lightly, "Good coordination! You two are moving like you've been running drills for weeks. Take five, team!"
Tula dropped down on a safety line, clicking his mandibles in a friendly greeting, while Minccino trotted over to my boots, her fluffy tail swishing behind her. I knelt, pulling a high-grade berry-blended treat from my bag and offering it to her.
*Nib-nib*
She took it with delicate little paws, nibbling on it while looking up at me with those wide, tear-bright eyes that still held the lingering shadow of abandonment. I murmured, reaching out to scratch behind her silky ears, "You're doing great, little gal. Don't you worry about yesterday. In fact, I think you'll appreciate how yesterday wrapped up."
*Swoosh*
Beside me, Gengar materialized halfway out of her shadow-form, her deep crimson eyes practically glowing with mischief. With a flick of her shadowy wrist, she floated her Rotom Phone right into the air in front of Minccino.
The screen flickered to life, replaying a video file that had been recorded mere hours ago in the public square of Accumula Town. On the screen, the grand, self-righteous orator Ghetsis was mid-monologue, striking a theatrical pose with his flowing, asymmetrical robes and his gold-trimmed staff.
*WHAM*
Suddenly, a massive lump of ultra-spicy Hoennian wasabi materialized out of thin air via invisible telekinetic force, slamming straight into the villain's agape mouth. The man's eyes bulged to the size of Poké Balls, his face turning a brilliant, violent shade of plum-purple as he choked and sputtered.
*Shirrrr—rip*
Before his shocked guards could even twitch, a second invisible burst of kinetic energy yanked his voluminous robes upward with astronomical force, delivering a live, public, merciless atomic wedgie that hoisted the self-proclaimed savior of Pokémon a full three feet into the air.
Minccino's jaw dropped. She stared at the screen, then up at me, her little whiskers twitching in absolute, stunned disbelief.
I leaned down and whispered conspiratorially, "I had my Pokémon handle the guy who messed with your life. Let this be a lesson: anyone who messes with my circle... their prior enemies become my enemies. Welcome to the family."
Gengar let out a raspy, booming cackle, her spectral form vibrating with amusement as she tapped the screen to show the live comment section running beneath the video: [Current Trending Tags: #PlasmaFails #WasabiBurn #WedgieJustice]
Gengar rasped out vocally, her voice echoing with delightful malice, "Kehehehe! Did you see the face he made, boss? Priceless! Absolutely priceless!"
From my shoulder, Pikachu let out a cheerful "Pika-pi!" while giving a tiny salute, and Eevee let out a soft "Vui!" in agreement. Down in my jacket, Mew squeaked softly, its tiny form shifting momentarily into the shape of a miniature Ghetsis choking on green paste, causing me to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing out loud.
A few yards away, Black and White walked over from the edge of the path. Black caught a glimpse of the screen over my shoulder, and his intense, perpetually focused demeanor cracked entirely.
He threw his head back and let out a booming laugh that rattled the leaves on the nearby bushes and said, "Ha! Oh, that is brilliant!"
Black roared, slapping his thigh. He looked down at his newly caught Galvantula. He grinned smugly as he said to Tula excitedly, "Look at this, Tula! Someone gave Team Plasma's big boss a taste of his own medicine!"
Tula clicked and buzzed in high-pitched amusement, waving a furry leg at the screen as the video looped for the fourth time. White, meanwhile, stepped forward, clearing her throat and crossing her arms in a theatrical display of stern disapproval.
She puffed out her cheeks, trying her absolute hardest to maintain the dignified aura of a high-class business president and manager. White scolded lightly, though her shoulders were visibly shaking with suppressed giggles, with a sly expression, "Now, really, guys. As amusing as poetic justice might be, we have to maintain a certain level of decorum! It is deeply improper and legally questionable to use psychic telekinesis to administer spicy condiments and undergarment-based humiliation to political figures, no matter how pompous they are!"
*Tap*
I grinned, standing up and dusting off my jeans. I chuckled and replied casually, eyeing my new boss, "Sure, White, sure… You keep telling yourself that while you secretly smash the like button."
White protested defensively, though her face flushed a delicate shade of pink, "I did not smash the button! I merely... bookmarked it for future reference regarding public stunt safety..."
She quickly changed the subject, smoothing down the front of her red-and-white jacket with practiced efficiency. She grinned, asking excitedly, "Anyway! Since we're taking a break, let's talk business. You mentioned yesterday, while we were getting acquainted, that you had some old... connections in the entertainment industry? You were curious about how the BW Agency operates?"
I replied, a slow, calculated smirk spreading across my lips, "Oh, more than just curious. In fact, I made a few phone calls to some of my old team members from my days traveling through Hoenn and Sinnoh. I asked if they'd be interested in doing some professional acting work."
White's eyes instantly went wide, sparkling with the manic, brilliant energy of a visionary director who had just struck an artistic goldmine. She asked excitedly, "You did? You reached out? Who? What kind of roles can they play? Are they trained in stage combat? Do they have good camera presence?"
I ticked them off on my fingers, enjoying the sheer anticipation building in her posture. Then I said rapidly, "Well, for starters, I've got a Gardevoir who could star in a high-fantasy romance or a dramatic thriller. A Milotic who can command the screen in any majestic, ethereal water-sequence. A Gallade built for action-heavy choreography. A Tyranitar who makes for the ultimate, unstoppable kaiju antagonist. A Quagsire for deadpan comedy, and an Ampharos who can practically run the lighting department with its tail."
White looked like she had just ascended to a higher plane of existence. Her hands flew up to her cheeks, and she began pacing back and forth along the cobblestones, muttering furiously to herself as she mentally mapped out scripts, costume designs, franchise expansions, and merchandising deals, "Gardevoir... a dramatic lead... Milotic as a high-society rival... Tyranitar for city-destruction sequences..."
She stopped dead in her tracks, whirling around to point a finger at me with fierce intensity and added, "Azure, I am holding you to this! If your Pokémon show up and deliver half of what you're promising, I'll make you a senior partner by the end of the year! What's your timeline? When can they get here?"
I chuckled, leaning back against a tree. I replied casually, "Whenever you need them, Boss. So long as we coordinate the schedule around my Unova League gym circuit. Think of this as me learning the ropes of the entertainment business from the ground up, while simultaneously investing in your future empire."
I watched her reaction with a quiet, internal amusement. White was brilliant, fiercely driven, and possessed the exact kind of entrepreneurial spirit needed to turn Unova's nascent entertainment market into a global phenomenon—what would eventually become Pokestar Studios.
By getting in on the ground floor as an employee and financial backer, I was securing a front-row seat to a literal cash cow. And the best part?
She had no idea about my ultimate, secret ace in the hole.
Just wait until I eventually introduce her to Mew, picturing the mythical Pokémon casually utilizing its Transform move to seamlessly morph into literally any legendary or standard Pokémon required for a blockbuster script, saving millions in special effects. She's going to faint from sheer joy.
White declared, her voice ringing with renewed vigor as she pumped her fist in the air, "Come on! Route 2 is practically behind us! Let's get to Striaton City! We have a studio layout to design, talent contracts to draft, and movies to make!"
Black cheered, pumping his own fist. He yelled, equally excited for us to move on the road, "Yeah! And then straight to the Cilan, Cress, and Chili gym battle! My Tepig is fired up and ready to go!"
As the group gathered their things and marched onward down the trail, Minccino trotted happily right beside my boots, her tail held high. I wonder how Ghetsis likes the surprise Gengar gave him?
Hehehe…
While thinking of the idea while was still funny and could give Gengar full reign to humiliate these speeches; I have another concern to handle. I must fix Minccino's mentality, as for now she's fine battling wild Pokémon and training with my crew.
But when we battle other trainers, she panics and hides. Black is an exception due to having Tula having the same experience as Minccino. I gotta think of a way to help regain Minccino's confidence in battling…

~Third POV~
[Unova Region, Meanwhile, Accumula Town]
Inside a private, soundproofed backroom of a nondescript administrative building in Accumula Town, Ghetsis Harmonia stood in front of a full-length mirror, gripping the edge of the mahogany sink so hard his knuckles turned bone-white.
His breathing was heavy, ragged, and entirely devoid of the calm, measured cadence he usually projected to the masses. He had finally recovered from the searing, agonizing volcanic hellfire that had assaulted his taste buds.
His tongue still felt like it had been scrubbed with barbed wire and soaked in battery acid. He had scrubbed himself clean in the shower and pulled on a fresh, crisp set of royal robes—complete with a brand-new, high-security pair of reinforced undergarments that featured double-stitched reinforced waistbands.
The thought alone made a vein throb violently on his temple, 'Just in case. Who?'
The word echoed in the chambers of his mind like a war drum. Who possessed the ungodly, insolent audacity to humiliate Ghetsis, the shepherd of Team Plasma, the savior of the oppressed, in broad daylight?
"Master Ghetsis."
Ghetsis didn't jump, though his jaw tightened. He turned around slowly.
Kneeling on the polished marble floor before him were three figures, dressed from head to toe in dark, form-fitting ninja garb, their faces obscured by matching masks. The Shadow Triad. Silent, deadly, and utterly devoted.
They were the apex predators of his inner circle, individuals whose lives he had saved years ago, binding their absolute loyalty to his cause. Ghetsis commanded, his voice a low, dangerous growl that could curdle milk, "Report."
The center shadow lowered his head further. They said blankly, "Forgive us, Master. We scoured the plaza, traced the vector of the telekinetic signature, and cross-referenced the energy residue. The perpetrator... vanished. There was no physical trace left behind, save for a faint lingering scent of ozone and... roasted berries."
*SLAM*
Ghetsis let out a low, guttural sound of pure, unadulterated rage. He slammed his fist against the wall, cracking the plaster. He spat in outrage, "Incompetence! You are my shadow agents! Ghosts in the machine! And you let some invisible jester make a mockery of our sacred rally?!"
The second shadow spoke, his voice steady despite the fury radiating from their master, "We searched every alleyway, interrogated every civilian within a three-mile radius. No one saw the caster. It is as if the phantom dissolved into the very air."
The right member vowed, his hand resting instinctively on the hilt of a hidden blade, "We will not fail a second time. Give us the order, and we will tear Accumula Town apart brick by brick until we unearth the culprit."
Ghetsis commanded, holding up a single, trembling hand to halt them, "No."
He reined in his temper with a supreme effort of will, forcing his breathing to steady. He could not afford a public manhunt right now. If the grunts—the impressionable, brainwashed youths he relied on to carry out his grand design—saw their grand leader throwing a hysterical, vengeful tantrum over a wedgie, the illusion of his divine wisdom would crumble instantly.
He had to maintain the facade of 'liberation.' He had to project calm, calculated patience. Ghetsis turned away from them, his hand trembling as he reached into his sleeve and pulled out his Team Plasma-style Rotom Phone.
He hated technology that wasn't strictly controlled, but monitoring public sentiment was necessary. He tapped the screen, opening Poketube.
His thumb hovered over the search bar, but he didn't need to type it. It was already the number one trending video globally, broadcast across Unova, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, etc.
The video was still pinned at the absolute top of the regional trending page. The title blazed across the top of his screen in bold, mocking text:
====
'Liberation' starts with liberating your dignity! Praise thy Captain Underpants! #PlasmaFails #WasabiBurn #WedgieJustice.
Views: 4.8 million. Likes: 1.2 million. Shares: 850,000.
====
Ghetsis's eyes scanned down to the comment section, and for a terrifying second, he looked as though he might spit blood right onto his polished leather boots. The internet was a cruel, merciless wasteland, and the populace of Unova was having a field day at his expense.
Ghetsis watched the video play a few times. He watched himself—the brilliant, eloquent sage—get blasted in the jaw with green sludge, followed immediately by his royal garments being hoisted into the stratosphere by an invisible winch.
*SPAT*
He spat actual blood onto his expensive shoes. A choking sound escaped his throat, halfway between a sob of profound humiliation and the screech of a cornered Zangoose. He forced his eyes down to the comment section, a masochistic urge compelling him to read what the unwashed masses were saying about their divine leader:

Comment Section:
User_DragonTamer99: Bro really said 'Liberate these cheeks!' LMAO
SinnohChampionWannabe: 10/10 form on that wedgie. The Hoenn Battle Frontier could never.
PlasmaGrunt_42: ...Are we sure Ghetsis-sama is okay? Should we still hand out flyers?
UnovaTruthSeeker: Team Plasma? More like Team Wedgie-In-Transit!
Anonymous_Mew: Hey @Ghetsis, next time use mild salsa instead of wasabi. It burns less on the way down.
NurseJoyFanclub: Captain Underpants 2012!
User_SinnohChamp22: Man, Platinum Frontier brains got nothing on this guy. Bro got hit with the Legendary Wedgie of Justice! 10/10 would watch again.
TeamRocketAdmin_M: Professional courtesy, pal. If you're gonna try to take over a region, at least wear reinforced briefs. Rookie mistake.
Unova_PoutyGirl: Is this the guy who was talking about freeing Pokémon? Bro couldn't even free his own robes from a psychic wedgie lmao.
DracoMeteor99: #WasabiBurn is trending worldwide right now. Someone give that prankster a medal and a box of Poffins.
Anonymous_Shadow: Praise thy Captain Underpants! All hail the Underwear Liberation Front!
SilphCo_Intern: Our legal department is currently drafting a patent for anti-telekinesis boxers. HMU for business inquiries.

====
Ghetsis closed his eyes, his chest heaving as he gripped the edges of the phone so tightly the glass screen let out a dangerous, hairline crack. He forced himself to scroll past the insults, reciting mental mantras of control, power, and ultimate dominion over the Unova region.
He told himself, the veins in his forehead bulging, 'Patience. Patience. N my freak is gathering momentum. The ideals and truths of this region will soon bend to my will. I am the shepherd; they are the flock.'
He had to maintain the facade. Down the hall, several low-ranking Team Plasma grunts were murmuring amongst themselves, waiting for their leader to emerge and deliver words of inspiration. If he walked out there with his eyes twitching and foam at the mouth, the illusion of their righteous crusade would shatter.
He had to breathe. He had to swallow the bile, the wasabi, and the profound, soul-crushing weight of his public atomic wedgie.
He drew in a long, shuddering breath, smoothing down his robes, plastering a mask of grim, pious determination over his features. Ghetsis whispered to the Shadow Triad without turning around, "Leave me."
*Whooosh*
In a flicker of shadow and displaced air, the three ninjas vanished. Ghetsis stared at his own reflection in the cracked mirror. His eyes were bloodshot, dark circles carved deep beneath them.
He whispered to the empty room, his voice trembling with a vow of vengeance and frustration so dark it made the shadows in the corner recoil, "Find them… Find whoever holds that Rotom phone. Find the insect who dared cross me. When I get my hands on them... I won't just liberate their dignity. I will strip away everything they hold dear, down to their very soul."
He adjusted his collar, turned on his heel, and walked out to face his followers, hiding a hurricane of pure, unadulterated murder behind a saintly smile.
