The first request to question Iori arrived before breakfast.

That was already wrong.

Good requests waited until the room had named what they were. Bad requests arrived early, dressed as efficiency, hoping hunger and urgency would make everyone forget that a living person was not a footnote with a pulse.

Oda placed the message on the archive table and did not sit.

Daigo saw her face and immediately said "No"

Oda looked at him.

"You have not heard it"

"I have developed pre-hearing judgment"

"Useful"

"Do not say that"

Akiha stood beside the table, hands still. Tomonari had stopped in the doorway with one foot over the threshold and one not, which made him look exactly like a boy who had learned too much about doors to enter a room normally. Hayato was at the far side of the archive, copying the Amai fragment boundary by hand because he had asked to keep the sentence ugly enough that adults could not make it smooth.

Rei stood beside Akiha.

Not near the third notebook.

Not near Sayuri, who had been summoned and now stood by the east shelf with Haruto beside her.

Miyo was visible in the window reflection before she was visible in the room.

Sawamura came in behind Moriyama, carrying the old East Amana handling structure and the newer Amai fragment note.

Oda read the message.

Sayuri stepped closer.

Moriyama scheduled the meeting for the next morning.

Not at the archive table.

At the side room.

Too many things had happened at the archive table and adults loved turning places into ritual because then the table could do half the coercion for them.

The side room was plain. Tatami. Low desk. One window. One door. No shelves tall enough to feel like witnesses. Oda hated it because it contained insufficient filing surfaces. That was one of the reasons it had been chosen.

Participants were argued line by line.

Moriyama as lead.

Oda as record.
