The first rule was that the door did not get to enter first.
Oda wrote that at the top of the handling board before anyone sat down, before the second Hashimoto notebook was reopened, before Sayuri removed her gloves, before Daigo could object to being placed beside an Amana-related page with the expression of someone forced to hold a snake for educational purposes.
First rule:
The door does not enter first.
Daigo stared at the line.

Oda looked at him.
"Accurate"
"I liked it better when doors were furniture"

"No. But I liked complaining about them more"
Sayuri stood at the table with her hands folded in front of her, not touching the notebook. Haruto stood behind her, close enough to be present and far enough not to turn her memory into his authority. Moriyama stood at the head of the table. Sawamura held the East Amana handling structure. Akiha had chosen to observe after her function was named: observer of whether the page started making people answer as family, student, retainer, or door.
Daigo had been assigned non-Amana, non-Kamo witness.
He had objected.
Then accepted.
Then objected again to the fact that accepting had been useful.
Miyo watched from the window and the page reflection.
Tomonari was not yet at the table. He would review procedural language only after Sayuri’s threshold-structure reading, not as Kamo function, not as the first person to make the record formal. He hated the delay. He had accepted it. Those were now often the same sentence.
Rei was outside the archive room.
Not far.

The outer archive annex had a low bench, three record boxes, a cracked water bowl, and a window that looked into nothing useful. Hayato sat beside him because he had said he was not part of the first interpretation but could be part of making sure exclusion did not become abandonment. Oda had stared at him for four full seconds, then written a note and pointed to the bench.
Now Hayato’s feet did not touch the floor.
Rei’s did.
That made him feel older than he wanted to feel and younger than the room required him to be.
Inside, the second notebook waited.
Outside, Rei waited too.
He hated it.

Hayato looked at him.
"Do you want to go in?"

"No"
Hayato nodded.

Then Hayato said "When I did not go inside Mizunashi, it helped that the mission continued"

"This is not the same. But maybe if the reading continues, it proves you are not the door"

"Maybe later is not yes"
Rei almost smiled.
"Correct"
Inside, Oda reopened the second notebook to the marked page.
No one leaned forward.
Sayuri read the lines silently first.
Then aloud.

Sayuri nodded once.
"Yes"

He swallowed.

Good.
She looked back toward the archive.
"Moriyama-sensei?"
Moriyama appeared at the doorway.

He hated that he meant it.

Hayato said "The door"
Everyone looked at him.
He flushed.
"Not the annex. The route. If the child talks, she might not be a door"
The room went very still.
Oda wrote:

Hayato did not look embarrassed this time.

Rei stared at the line.

Oda looked at him.
He answered before she could.
"Because municipal may use the annex to move Amai out of their duty again"

"Correct good" Daigo said
Rei accepted both.
That evening, Hashimoto was told that the notebooks contained strong Tetsu relevance and a separate restricted child-transfer irregularity. No annex details. No Amai details yet. He was asked whether he wanted to remain carrier of the notebooks under Kyoto custody or transfer carrier status fully to archive custody.
He looked at the receipt.
Then at Oda.
"If I transfer carrier status, am I abandoning them?"
Oda said "No"
He looked at Hayato.
Hayato said "Needing distance is not discarding"
Hashimoto breathed.
"Then I transfer carrier status to archive custody. I want updates if the records create action. I do not want to be asked every time a page hurts someone"
