The Names That Waited
Chapter 55
History did not bleed.
That made it easier for adults to delay.
It also made the delay uglier.
The Mizunashi file sat in the archive for two days before anyone admitted that leaving it unopened had become a decision. Not a pause. Not triage. Not waiting for a proper exorcism team, not waiting for historical registry access, not waiting for Fujisaki’s follow-up statement, not waiting for Mina’s fever to break.
A decision.
Oda was the one who named it.
Of course.
She placed the sealed field packet in the center of the table at first bell, beside the Kusunoki gratitude objects, the suspended contradiction note, the Enough Language framework, and the need-route deployment record. The room already knew what the packet was. That was why everyone had avoided looking at it directly.
Daigo entered, saw it, and stopped.
"No"
Oda looked at him over her glasses.
"To the packet?"
"To whatever lesson it thinks it is"
"The packet has not spoken"
"That is how packets get you"
Hayato sat near the end of the table, quieter than he had been after Kusunoki, his notebook open but blank. The Mizunashi mission had touched Mina through a name, and while Mina was alive and recovering, that had not made the old names less present. It had only made them older.
Akiha stood beside Rei, one hand resting on her board. Tomonari had already prepared three columns before anyone asked. Miyo stood near the window again, but today she was watching the reflection in the glass rather than the view outside.
Sawamura stood beside Moriyama. His provisional field-safety tag had finally been removed from his folder, but Oda had replaced it with a smaller one that said:
Function developing.
Do not relax.
Daigo had laughed for almost a full minute when he saw it.
Sawamura had accepted it, which ruined the joy.
Moriyama looked at the sealed packet.
"Name the delay"
Oda wrote:
Mizunashi delay:
Current child saved.
Adult extracted.
Old-name curse contained.
Unresolved:
old shelter names remain behind seal.
historical registry not reviewed.
watcher route unresolved.
host name spoken by field.
Hayato flinched at host name
Then looked at Rei.
Rei looked back.
Not away.
Good.
Akiha said "Delay protects us from returning to a site that used Rei’s name"
Tomonari said "It also protects us from becoming historical child specialists"
Daigo said "It protects adults from admitting they left old names in a room"
Miyo said "And protects the room from asking again"
Moriyama nodded.
"What does delay cost?"
No one answered quickly.
Then Hayato said "If a current child was not inside, people may decide old children do not count urgently"
The archive went quiet.
Oda wrote that without improving it.
If a current child was not inside, old children may stop being urgent.
Daigo sat down.
Hard.
"I hate that"
Hayato nodded.
"Me too"
Tomonari looked at the field packet.
"The old names may not be current rescue. They may still be current risk if the curse can use old count failure to reach current names"
Rei added "And the name route used Mina. The old-name knot may be a structure that grabs new names when adults are responsible enough to answer badly"
Akiha said "So ignoring old names does not only abandon history. It leaves a mechanism"
Miyo said "History asks for help by becoming current danger"
Oda wrote:
History asking for help may look like future risk.
Do not reduce old names to mechanism.
Do not reduce mechanism to grief.
Daigo whispered "That is an awful pair"
"Yes" Oda said
Moriyama broke the packet seal.
Inside were the field record, the contained copy of the Mina name tag, residue sketches from Sawamura, Rei’s thread diagram, Akiha’s guilt-pressure observations, Miyo’s exterior watcher note, Hayato’s perimeter language note, and a preliminary registry request prepared by Tomonari after the mission.
The last item was new.
A reply.
Oda unfolded it.
Her expression became severe in a way that suggested someone had tried to be sensible.
Bad sign.
Historical Registry Response — Mizunashi Child Relief Site
Available records incomplete.
Relevant periods:
- emergency child shelter operation, thirty-one to twenty-four years prior
- temporary relief dormitory use, twenty-two years prior
- municipal supply conversion, twelve years prior
Known issue:
several child occupancy logs lost during flood archive relocation.
Registry position:
old names audible at site may derive from incomplete occupancy memory, environmental curse residue, or later roster contamination.
Recommended action:
full historical reconstruction not advised for current low-grade containment unless active current-child link persists.
Suggested priority:
maintain seal
monitor for new current-name resonance
avoid unnecessary emotional reconstruction of non-actionable records
Daigo stared.
"Non-actionable records"
Hayato looked sick.
Akiha’s eyes went cold.
Tomonari’s hand tightened around his brush.
Miyo said "They are waiting for another current child"
Oda wrote:
Registry recommends waiting until history hurts someone current again.
Sawamura said "The registry may be acting within resource limits"
Daigo turned on him.
Sawamura did not retreat.
"That does not make the recommendation correct. It names the pressure"
Tomonari said "Actionable means useful to current operations"
Akiha said "Then old names become actionable only if they become weapons"
Rei said "The curse already made them weapons"
Moriyama looked at the registry response.
"Do we challenge?"
Hayato said "Yes"
No one expected the speed.
Hayato noticed.
Then kept going.
"Not because I know how. Because if they say wait until another current-name resonance, that means Mina had to be touched before old names mattered"
Silence.
Then Daigo said "Correct"
Not good.
Correct.
Oda wrote.
Mina should not be the price of old-name actionability.
Tomonari looked at Hayato.
"Do you want your name attached to that?"
Hayato swallowed.
"No"
"Do you want the concept attached?"
"Yes"
Tomonari nodded.
"Then we make it travel without you"
Akiha moved closer to the table.
"We need decide whether we return to site"
Daigo said "Of course we return"
Akiha looked at him.
He scowled.
"I know. Too fast. Fine. Why do we return?"
Miyo said "Because the watcher moved when Rei’s name sounded"
Daigo pointed at her.
"That is why we do not return"
"Also true"
Tomonari said "Because old-name curse remains contained, not exorcised"
Akiha said "Because the registry response may train future inaction"
Hayato said "Because no one goes alone because a room says child. But someone has to count"
Rei looked at the packet.
The System remained silent.
That was almost worse.
He said "Because the old names may hold the structure that let the room speak my name"
The room went still.
Akiha looked at him.
"Do not make returning about your name only"
"I am not"
"Are you?"
He breathed.
"Partly"
"Name the other part"
"Old names. Current risk. Registry inaction. Mina. Fujisaki. Watcher route. Curse mechanism. Need-route aftermath"
Daigo said "Better"
Rei nodded.
"Not complete"
"Still better"
Moriyama looked at the map.
"This is not a full exorcism mission yet. We do not have enough historical data. This is a registry reconstruction and seal assessment"
Sawamura said "Lower exposure"
Miyo said "Still name risk"
"Yes"
Oda placed a blank sheet in the center.
MIZUNASHI RETURN DECISION
Purpose:
Not rescue current child.
Not prove usefulness.
Not satisfy guilt.
Purpose:
determine whether old-name curse can be safely contained without historical reconstruction, and whether registry inaction increases current-name risk.
Hayato read the purpose.
Then nodded.
"That says it"
Daigo said "Unfortunately"
Roles were harder this time.
Because no one was screaming.
Because no one was trapped.
Because the urgency had to be built from responsibility rather than sound.
Moriyama said "I go"
Sawamura said "I go"
Rei said "I go"
Akiha looked at him.
He added "Function: residual trace and name-route comparison. No core engagement. Stop if field speaks my name again"
Daigo said "If it speaks your name, you leave"
Rei opened his mouth.
Daigo pointed.
"No"
Akiha said "Condition?"
Rei swallowed.
"If field speaks my name once, I stop active tracing. If it speaks my name twice, I leave the building unless Moriyama identifies immediate current-child risk"
Miyo said "Too much exception"
Moriyama said "Agreed"
Rei looked at her.
She said "If it speaks your name twice, you leave the building. Current-child risk is handled by adult field lead and remaining functions"
The old impulse protested.
The room watched.
Rei nodded.
"Accepted"
Daigo looked satisfied and miserable.
Akiha said "I go. Observer count. Rei stop condition. Adult guilt pressure. No historical interpretation ownership"
Tomonari said "I go"
Everyone looked at him.
He continued "Not into the dormitory room first. Function: registry logic, formal name handling, old record distinction. This site is becoming a formal-history trap. I cannot only write from archive"
Daigo said "That is a hook"
Tomonari nodded.
"Yes"
"Do you still want to go?"
"Yes"
Akiha asked "Why?"
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Tomonari looked at the registry response.
"Because ‘non-actionable records’ is a phrase I know how to hate correctly"
Oda wrote.
Daigo said "That is a terrible reason and also perfect"
Miyo said "I go exterior. Watcher route. No pursuit. Again"
Daigo said "I go exterior. If watcher moves and Miyo wants to pursue, I become annoying"
Miyo said "You already are"
"Function acknowledged"
Hayato looked at the map.
"I do not go inside"
Moriyama nodded.
"Function?"
He hesitated.
"Perimeter name check. If the field uses current student names through staff records, I can help identify whether names come from instruction routes. But I do not enter"
Akiha said "Valid"
Moriyama added "You may refuse after arrival"
Hayato nodded.
"I know"
Then:
"Mostly"
Oda remained archive-side.
"Someone must keep the old names from becoming field romance"
Daigo said "Field romance?"
"Adults love tragic lists"
"That is horrifying"
"Yes"
The deployment note was written.
Return Deployment — Mizunashi Historical Registry Assessment
Reason:
Old-name curse remains contained.
Registry recommends monitoring unless current-name resonance persists.
Kyoto challenges waiting for another current child to make old names actionable.
Purpose:
seal assessment
old-name / current-name route comparison
registry reconstruction feasibility
watcher route monitoring
Not purpose:
full exorcism
student usefulness proof
guilt satisfaction
single-child rescue
Stop condition:
If field speaks Rei’s name once, Rei stops active tracing.
If field speaks Rei’s name twice, Rei exits building.
Roles:
Moriyama — field lead
Sawamura — field safety / seal support
Akiha — observer count / stop-condition witness
Rei — residual trace / name-route comparison under stop condition
Tomonari — registry logic / formal name handling
Miyo — exterior watcher / no pursuit
Daigo — exterior pressure / Miyo stop / adult rush stop
Hayato — perimeter current-name / instruction-route check / no interior entry
Oda — archive first-truth preservation
Oda stamped it.
Then looked at Rei.
"Do not be interesting"
Daigo said "Impossible"
Oda looked at him.
"You either"
Daigo looked offended.
The Mizunashi building looked smaller in daylight.
That did not help.
If anything, it looked more like a place adults should have been able to handle. Low roof. Graying walls. Chain fence. A drainage canal behind it. No dramatic shadow. No obvious curse pressure from the road.
That was how a site made people feel foolish for being afraid.
Miyo stopped at the gate.
"Watcher residue still across canal"
Daigo turned.
"Same roofline?"
"Same line. New charm"
Sawamura looked at Moriyama.
"Exterior first?"
Moriyama nodded.
"Miyo, Daigo. Observe only. Hayato with them"
Hayato nodded.
"Accepted"
Tomonari looked at the building.
"This place wants adult embarrassment"
Akiha said "Explain"
"If adults admit old records matter, they admit prior failure. If they dismiss the site, they look rational until it hurts someone. Either way, the building benefits from shame"
Moriyama said "Good. Keep that"
They entered after placing three exterior anchor tags and one return-line marker at the front threshold.
The hallway was shorter this time.
Not safe.
Shorter.
The emergency poster remained on the wall.
DO NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND.
The field strip covered the red underline.
No one goes alone because a room says child.
The paper had browned at the edges.
Sawamura checked it.
"Holding"
Akiha watched the hallway.
"No child voices yet"
Rei opened his senses carefully.
Residual threads clung to the poster, the floorboards, the dormitory wing, and the sealed Room 3B. The current-name sharpness was gone, or mostly gone. The Mina tag had been removed. But the old names had not quieted. They waited in the sealed room like dust that remembered being breath.
Tomonari stood beside the poster and read the old instruction.
"Good instruction in wrong mouth"
Akiha nodded.
"Many of these are"
They moved toward the dormitory wing.
At the second marker, the hallway whispered.
Not a child’s voice.
Paper.
Lists shifting.
Rei stopped.
Akiha said "Status"
"Old-name pressure. No current name yet"
Moriyama said "Continue"
The sealed door to Room 3B waited at the end of the hall.
Sawamura’s temporary seal held across it in three strips. Behind the door, something rustled in slow layers. Like a classroom turning pages in its sleep.
Tomonari looked pale.
Daigo would have mocked him if present.
Maybe.
Akiha did not.
Moriyama said "We do not open the room yet"
Sawamura placed a registry cloth on the floor.
Tomonari knelt and spread copied municipal records, old shelter logs, and blank name cards in three rows.
"Categories"
Moriyama nodded.
Tomonari wrote:
Known living current names
Known historical shelter names
Unverified audible names
False / generated names
Unknown
The door rustled harder.
Akiha said "It reacts to categories"
Rei followed the thread.
"Not angry. Hungry"
Tomonari’s hand paused.
"Hungry for category?"
"For being counted"
The words came out before Rei could make them safer.
The door exhaled.
A child’s voice whispered:
"Count me"
Everyone froze.
Not Rei’s name.
Not Mina.
An old voice.
Tomonari closed his eyes.
"That is horrible"
Moriyama said "Do not answer directly"
Sawamura nodded.
"We are preparing a count. We are not entering because a room commands"
The door whispered again.
"Count me"
Another voice.
"Count me"
Then more.
Not screaming.
Worse.
Waiting.
Akiha’s eyes shone with tension.
"Adult guilt pressure rising"
Tomonari looked at his categories.
"If we do not answer, the room may escalate. If we answer, it owns the count"
Rei felt the old names pressing against the seal.
"Count has to happen outside the room"
Moriyama said "Yes"
Tomonari took one blank card.
At the top, he wrote:
We begin with unknown.
The whispering stopped.
Tomonari placed the card under Unknown
Then wrote a second.
Unknown is not discarded.
The door shuddered.
Akiha breathed.
"Pressure changed"
Rei nodded.
"It expected known or ignored. Unknown holds"
Tomonari’s hand steadied.
Good.
He wrote the first audible name exactly as the field whispered it.
Not as fact.
As audible.
Audible name:
Sachi?
Source:
Room 3B whisper.
Status:
unverified.
Not counted as living current child.
Not discarded.
The door rustled.
A second name came.
"Hiro"
Then "Amai"
Then "Tetsu"
Then several at once.
Tomonari’s hand trembled.
Akiha said "Too many. Stop before room controls pace"
Tomonari lifted his brush.
"We are pausing the count to preserve accuracy"
The door slammed once.
Sawamura’s seal burned.
Akiha said "Anger"
Moriyama said "Let it be angry"
The door whispered:
"Rei"
The hallway froze.
One.
Akiha turned immediately.
"Stop active tracing"
Rei’s hand had already withdrawn.
"Stopped"
Daigo’s voice came from the relay.
"What happened?"
Miyo answered before anyone inside did.
"Name one"
Daigo swore.
Hayato’s voice followed.
"Rei stops"
Rei had stopped.
Good.
Painful.
The door whispered again.
Not Rei.
"Sachi"
Tomonari exhaled.
Sawamura looked at Rei.
"Status"
"Not tracing. Passive hearing only"
Akiha watched him.
"Cost?"
"Headache low. Name pressure. No answer given"
Moriyama said "Continue without Rei trace"
That was the first test.
The mission continued.
Without his function.
And did not collapse.
Part of Rei hated the relief.
Part of him needed it.
Tomonari continued with audible names, slower now. Each name got status. Unknown. Unverified. Not discarded.
The door hated that and tolerated it.
Both.
After seven names, Miyo’s voice came through the relay.
"Watcher moved"
Daigo said "Not pursuing"
Miyo said "I did not say I would"
"You leaned"
"Correct"
"Do not"
"Accepted"
Hayato said "External charm pulse when old names are written"
Moriyama looked at Sawamura.
"Connection?"
Sawamura glanced at Rei, then away because Rei’s active tracing had stopped.
Good.
"Unknown. We can mark timing"
Akiha wrote:
Exterior watcher charm pulsed when unknown names received status.
Tomonari stared at the line.
"Someone may be watching which old names become less available to the curse"
Rei said nothing.
Not because he had nothing to say.
Because he had stopped active interpretation.
Akiha noticed.
"Good"
He looked down.
The door whispered again.
"Rei"
Second.
Akiha said "Exit"
Rei did not argue.
That was perhaps the hardest thing he did all day.
He stood.
Sawamura moved to escort.
Moriyama said "Akiha stays"
Rei looked at her.
She held his gaze.
"You exit. The count continues"
There it was.
The room did not follow the center.
Rei nodded.
"Accepted"
He walked back down the hallway alone until Sawamura reached the threshold beside him, because Sawamura had decided field safety did not count as following the center if the center had a stop condition. Annoyingly correct.
At the front entrance, Daigo was waiting.
His expression was not mocking.
That was bad.
"Out?"
"Out"
"Good"
"Correct good?"
"Angry good"
Rei sat on the low stone step outside the building.
Hayato came closer.
Not too close.
"It said your name twice?"
"Yes"
"You left"
"Yes"
Hayato nodded.
"That makes the rule real"
Rei closed his eyes.
"Yes"
Miyo stood across the yard, still watching the canal roofline.
"The watcher stopped when you exited"
Daigo cursed.
Rei opened his eyes.
"That means the watcher wanted either deeper name response or proof I stayed"
Miyo said "Maybe"
"Do not pursue interpretation?"
She looked at him.
"Correct"
He almost smiled.
Inside, through the relay, they heard the count continue.
Tomonari’s voice.
"Sachi. Unverified audible name. Not discarded"
Akiha.
"Room pressure stable"
Moriyama.
"Continue"
Sawamura had returned inside after placing Rei at the threshold. Field safety, not emotional support. Correct. Annoying.
More names came.
Hiro.
Amai.
Tetsu.
Kana.
Mitsu.
A name that might have been Yori or Iori.
That one made everyone freeze for half a second.
Akiha said "Do not connect to current Iori without evidence"
Tomonari said "Recorded"
Old names.
Unknown.
Not discarded.
After the thirteenth name, the door stopped whispering.
Not finished.
Paused.
Tomonari said "We are ending first count. We will return through record, not voice"
The seal flared.
Then settled.
Moriyama said "Room?"
Akiha answered "It dislikes ending. But pressure less hungry"
Sawamura said "Seal stable. No current-name resonance"
Moriyama said "Withdraw"
They came out five minutes later.
Tomonari looked exhausted in a way that was not physical.
Akiha looked like she had held a door closed by looking at it correctly.
Sawamura looked at the seal report like it had offended him personally.
Moriyama looked like herself, which meant cost had been placed somewhere no child was allowed to see yet.
Daigo looked at Tomonari.
"Alive?"
Tomonari said "Unfortunately procedural"
Daigo nodded.
"That counts"
Rei stood.
"Did it continue after I left?"
Tomonari looked at him.
"Yes"
Good.
Painful.
Good.
Akiha added "It was harder. It continued"
Rei nodded.
He needed both parts.
The field assessment was written outside the gate.
Mizunashi Return Assessment — First Old-Name Count
Purpose:
determine whether old-name curse requires historical reconstruction before next current-name resonance.
Outcome:
Initial audible-name count begun outside Room 3B.
No room entry.
No full exorcism.
No current-child link detected during count.
Key method:
Unknown names given status without being confirmed, discarded, or treated as living current children.
Core phrasing:
“We begin with unknown”
“Unknown is not discarded”
Thirteen audible names recorded.
Verification pending.
Stop condition activated:
Field spoke Rei’s name twice.
Rei stopped tracing after first instance.
Rei exited building after second.
Mission continued without Rei active function.
Exterior:
watcher charm pulsed during old-name status assignment.
watcher ceased movement after Rei exited.
Assessment:
Old-name reconstruction reduces curse hunger without requiring obedience to room.
Full historical registry review advised.
Waiting for next current-name resonance not advised.
Hayato read the line Mission continued without Rei active function
Then looked at Rei.
"That line matters"
Rei nodded.
"Yes"
Daigo said "It matters because if they say you are required, we can hit them with paper"
Oda’s voice from the relay said "Do not hit with field record unless necessary"
Daigo shouted "You are not here!"
"Correct. Still preserving"
The first old-name count returned to the archive as thirteen cards and one field assessment.
Oda treated the cards with more respect than many living adults.
Daigo noticed.
"Do not say old names are better than current adults"
Oda said "I did not"
"You thought it"
"Obviously"
Tomonari placed the cards in the Unknown tray.
Not the confirmed tray.
Not the discarded tray.
Unknown.
Not discarded.
That category felt small.
It was not.
It was the first thing the old names had been allowed to be without becoming either rescue command or registry inconvenience.
Moriyama sent the field assessment to historical registry with one cover note.
Kyoto position:
Full historical registry review is now advised.
Reason:
Old-name status assignment reduced curse pressure.
Current-name resonance occurred previously because unresolved old-name structure remained active.
Waiting for future current-name resonance creates avoidable risk.
Old names are actionable before they injure a living child again.
Hayato asked to add a line.
Moriyama handed him the brush.
He wrote:
Mina should not be the proof old names matter.
Moriyama looked at him.
"Name attached?"
"No"
"Concept travels?"
"Yes"
She nodded.
The response was sent.
The reply did not come that day.
That was fine.
Some doors were slower because they were heavy.
The letter to Satoru was written before dinner.
Satoru,Akiha added:We returned to Mizunashi.
Not for current rescue.
For old-name count and seal assessment.
Registry recommended monitoring unless current-name resonance persisted.
We challenged:old names should not become actionable only after hurting another current child.
Rei
The room spoke Rei’s name once.Daigo added:He stopped tracing.
It spoke his name twice.
He exited.
The mission continued.
This line matters:Mission continued without Rei active function.Tomonari added:I am going to use it aggressively.
We created:We begin with unknown.Unknown is not discarded.Miyo added:Thirteen audible names recorded as unverified, not living current children, not discarded.
Watcher charm pulsed when old names received status.Hayato added:Watcher stopped when Rei exited.
Still no pursuit.
I hate this pattern.
Mina should not be the proof old names matter.Rei added:I did not attach my name.
The concept should travel.
It was good that the mission continued after I left.Satoru’s answer came the next afternoon. It also hurt.
Both.
Rei
Rei and room,Akiha read on.Unknown is not discarded.
That is good.
Dangerous good.
Keep it ugly.
Satoru
Rei:You left after the second name. The mission continued.Good.Not praise.Structural survival note.Rei copied that line.It hurting does not make it less good.
Daigo:Use “mission continued without Rei active function” aggressively.I approve of this violence.Paper violence.Mostly.
Akiha:You watched the stop condition become real. That is harder than writing it.
Tomonari:Unknown is not discarded may become very stealable.Make sure adults do not use unknown as a prettier waiting room.
Miyo:Watcher stopping when Rei exited matters. It may mean Rei was the test.It may mean exit was the test.Annoying.
Hayato:Mina should not be the proof old names matter.Correct.Do not let adults ask a living child to make history urgent.
The vow did not pull.
The surrounding structure touched Rei’s name and failed to keep him inside.
That matters.
Satoru
The surrounding structure touched Rei’s name and failed to keep him inside.
It sounded like victory.
It felt like leaving a room where others stayed.
Both.
The System opened that night.
[Mizunashi Return Assessment processed]
Purpose:
old-name count / seal assessment / registry challenge
Key structures:
“We begin with unknown”
“Unknown is not discarded”
Result:
Thirteen audible names recorded under unverified status.
Curse pressure reduced.
No current-name resonance detected.
Full historical registry review advised.
Stop condition:
Host name spoken once -> active tracing stopped.
Host name spoken twice -> host exited.
Mission continued without host active function.
A second message followed.
[Name Route update]
Host exit after second name reduced watcher movement.
Interpretation:
Name route attempted to test whether host would remain when personally called.
Result:
Host did not answer.
Host left.
Cohort continued function.
Risk reduced:
single-point name anchoring
Risk remaining:
watcher confirmed interest in host exit behavior.
A third.
[New analytical principle registered]
Unknown is not discarded.
Warning:
Unknown can become containment if no path toward verification exists.
Rei stared at the warning.
Of course.
Every good category could become a nicer cage.
No extraction.
[No extraction issued]
Current progress:
old-name status recognition / stop-condition compliance / mission continuation without host
Continue surviving consequence.
Rei wrote:
Unknown is not discarded.
But unknown cannot become a shelf where adults put what they do not want to carry.
A name can wait.
A child should not have to bleed to make it count.
He stamped the page.
Plain.
The mark came out faint.
He did not press again.
Not every name needed force to exist.
Far away, the unknown reader received the Mizunashi Return Assessment, the thirteen unverified names, the registry challenge, and the stop-condition note.
The gloved hand rested on:
Mission continued without Rei active function.
Then on:
Watcher stopped when Rei exited.
The brush moved.
Name route touched host.
Host exited.
Cohort continued.
Single-point anchoring resisted.
A pause.
Then:
Old names now actionable before current harm.
History route strengthened.
Unknown category created.
The reader wrote one more line.
Unknown can become waiting room.
Test verification.
The next sheet was placed beneath The Shape of Useful Children.
Next:
provide a verifiable old name that belongs to someone powerful.
The brush paused.
Then added:
Make history count through politics.
The sheet was folded.
The old names had begun to wait differently.
That meant someone would soon decide who benefited from counting them.
