JJK: Behind The Strongest

The Name That Belonged Too Much

Chapter 56

The registry answered when one of the names became valuable.

That was the first warning.

The second was that the answer came wrapped in urgency.

Oda placed the packet on the archive table and did not open it for almost a full minute. No one asked why. By now, everyone had learned that when Oda gave paper time to incriminate itself, interrupting her was both rude and strategically unsound.

Daigo lasted thirty-seven seconds.

"Is it poisonous?"

Oda looked at him.

"Likely"

"Spiritually or materially?"

"Politically"

Daigo sat down.

"Worse"

Tomonari, who had arrived early because the Mizunashi unknown-name tray had been keeping him awake in ways he refused to describe as guilt, looked at the packet seal. His face changed before Oda cut the paper.

Akiha saw it.

"Kamo?"

Tomonari nodded once.

"Not directly. Adjacent"

Miyo stood near the window. She had not looked away from the packet since it entered the room.

Hayato sat at the far end of the table, his notebook closed, one hand resting on top of it as if preventing the pages from running ahead of him. He had written Mina should not be the proof old names matter three times the previous day and had hated each version for sounding too clean.

Rei stood beside Akiha and did not touch the unknown-name tray.

Thirteen cards waited there.

Sachi.

Hiro.

Amai.

Tetsu.

Kana.

Mitsu.

Yori or Iori.

Several uncertain fragments.

Unknown.

Not discarded.

Moriyama stood at the head of the table. Sawamura stood beside her with the expression of a man who knew he was about to be useful and resented the shape usefulness took.

Oda opened the packet.

Inside were three documents.

One from historical registry.

One from a Kamo-affiliated educational liaison office.

One from administrative custody.

Oda read the first.

Historical Registry Follow-Up — Mizunashi Child Relief Site

Regarding Kyoto request for full historical registry review.

Preliminary verification completed for one audible-name entry:

Audible field name:

Sachi

Possible verified identity:

Kamo Sachi

Recorded under emergency shelter alias:

Sachi no Ie

Period:

thirty-one years prior

Status:

minor dependent under temporary municipal protection during intra-household relocation dispute

Record note:

custody transferred out of municipal shelter after three days

receiving party listed as Kamo-affiliated domestic office

final child welfare record incomplete

Registry caution:

family-linked privacy restrictions may apply

The room changed around Tomonari before anyone looked at him.

That was unfair.

Everyone looked anyway.

Tomonari did not flinch.

Not outwardly.

Daigo said "No"

Tomonari looked at him.

Daigo pointed at the paper.

"No to that thing deciding this is yours"

Tomonari closed his eyes for one second.

Then opened them.

"Accepted"

Oda wrote:

Verified old name:

Kamo Sachi / shelter alias Sachi no Ie

Immediate risk:

Tomonari proximity through family name.

Do not make old name his burden by surname.

Hayato read the tag.

Then whispered "One became real"

Akiha said "One was already real. The record became verifiable"

Hayato nodded.

"Yes"

Miyo said "Now the name belongs too much"

No one asked what she meant.

They knew.

Oda opened the second document.

Her expression became worse.

Kamo-Affiliated Educational Liaison Notice

Historical registry has identified a potentially family-linked minor record within Mizunashi Child Relief Site materials.

Due to privacy, household-sensitive custody implications, and possible relevance to existing Kamo-affiliated educational routes, all materials relating to the verified name Kamo Sachi should be transferred to Kamo-affiliated custody for appropriate internal handling.

Request:

- halt student review of Kamo Sachi materials

- provide copies of field notes containing the audible name

- identify whether any Kamo-associated student was present during name collection

- prevent speculative linkage between historical custody disputes and current instructional review matters

Daigo stood.

"No"

This time, everyone agreed with the shape of it.

Tomonari’s face had gone very still.

Akiha looked at the fourth bullet.

"Identify whether any Kamo-associated student was present"

Miyo said "There"

Rei said "They want Tomonari named as exposure route"

Sawamura said "Or liability route"

Oda wrote:

Family privacy route attempts custody of old name.

Request also seeks Kamo-associated student presence.

Danger:

old name becomes household property.

Tomonari becomes handling problem.

Tomonari said "I was present"

Daigo turned sharply.

Tomonari continued "Not as Kamo representative. As assigned registry logic function under Kyoto field lead"

Akiha nodded.

"That must be first line"

Tomonari’s mouth tightened.

"If we hide my presence, they can claim mishandling later"

Daigo said "If we reveal it, they will use you"

Tomonari looked at him.

"Yes"

Hayato whispered "Both doors"

Miyo said "Not doors. Hands"

The third document was administrative custody.

Oda unfolded it slowly.

Administrative Custody Guidance

Until family-linked privacy review is complete, Kyoto should treat all verified-name material as restricted.

Student access to the verified-name thread should be suspended pending determination of whether continued involvement creates undue burden, conflict of interest, or household-sensitive exposure.

Suggested interim action:

continue general old-name containment work using unverified entries only

separate Kamo Sachi materials from student-facing review

Silence.

Then Rei said "They want to remove the only name that became actionable because it became politically inconvenient"

Tomonari’s voice was quiet.

"Not only inconvenient. Valuable"

Daigo looked at him.

Tomonari did not look away.

"An old Kamo-linked custody dispute inside a municipal child relief site. If counted by Kyoto, it can embarrass a family line. If held by the family, it can vanish as privacy"

Akiha said "So old names matter when they can belong to power. But once they belong to power, they become private"

Oda wrote:

Power-name paradox:

A name becomes actionable because it connects to power.

Then power claims privacy to remove it from action.

Hayato looked sick.

"Mina should not be the proof old names matter. But Sachi should not have to belong to Kamo to matter either"

Oda’s brush moved immediately.

Sachi should not have to belong to Kamo to matter.

Tomonari looked at Hayato.

"Thank you"

Hayato looked startled.

Then nodded.

"Not comfort"

"No"

"Okay"

Moriyama placed one hand on the table.

"Question one. Do we halt student review of Kamo Sachi materials?"

Daigo said "No"

Tomonari said "Not globally"

Akiha said "We restrict, not surrender"

Miyo said "And separate old name from household appetite"

Sawamura said "Student access may need burden review because Tomonari is affected"

Tomonari nodded.

"Yes. But burden review should not be performed by the household that wants custody"

Oda wrote:

Restriction is not surrender.

Burden review cannot be controlled by claimant household.

Moriyama said "Question two. Do we identify Tomonari’s presence?"

Tomonari answered before anyone could protect him.

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

"Yes. With function frame"

Daigo said "I hate that"

Tomonari said "So do I"

"Good"

Akiha said "Function frame and non-representation clause"

Tomonari wrote it himself.

Kamo Tomonari was present during first old-name count.

Presence function:

registry logic / formal name handling under Kyoto field lead.

Non-representation:

He did not attend as Kamo household representative.

He did not receive Kamo Sachi materials as household agent.

His family name does not create family custody over the old-name record.

His brush shook only at the last line.

Daigo pretended not to see.

Akiha saw and did not make it softer.

Good.

Moriyama said "Question three. Do we transfer copies?"

Oda answered.

"No"

Everyone looked at her.

She continued "Not until we create a response that makes refusal procedural, not emotional"

Daigo whispered "That was beautiful"

Oda ignored him.

"Historical registry receives copy under Kyoto custody. Kamo-affiliated office may request supervised access after agreeing to non-removal, no student exposure claim, and no privacy erasure"

Tomonari said "They will refuse"

Oda said "Then refusal is record"

Miyo said "Make privacy show its teeth"

Oda wrote:

If privacy is legitimate, it can operate under preservation.

If privacy requires removal, name removal as the request.

Hayato read it.

"That one will make people angry"

Daigo said "Correct"

Sawamura said "Useful"

Daigo pointed.

"Do not ruin anger by making it useful"

Rei looked at the Sachi card.

It had been written as Sachi? during the field count. Now the registry had provided a possible name, an alias, a household connection, a custody transfer, and an incomplete final record.

One unknown had become verifiable.

The room had expected relief.

Instead, the name had acquired owners.

Akiha said "We need to update the unknown tray"

Oda nodded.

"Carefully"

Tomonari took the Sachi card.

Not because he owned it.

Because he was the one most likely to be used by it.

He placed a new card beside it.

Audible name:

Sachi

Preliminary verification:

Kamo Sachi / shelter alias Sachi no Ie

Status:

verified possible identity

not household property

not removed from old-name count

family-linked privacy review pending under preservation conditions

He stopped.

Then added:

A verified name is not less vulnerable because it belongs to a powerful record.

Hayato whispered "Good"

Daigo said "Correct good"

Tomonari allowed himself one small exhale.

Miyo looked at the other twelve cards.

"Now the unverified names become easier to ignore"

Everyone went still.

She was right.

One powerful name could eat all the old names.

Akiha said "Sachi cannot become the door for the count"

Rei added "Power name cannot become single-name key"

Tomonari looked at the tray.

"Then we need a counterweight"

Oda said "Name it"

Tomonari wrote a new heading.

OLD-NAME COUNT PRINCIPLE

One verified powerful name does not make unverified names less real.

Verified records guide action.

They do not define whose names matter.

Hayato added:

Sachi should not have to be Kamo to count.

Hiro should not have to become Kamo to count either.

Daigo stared.

"That line is going to hurt someone important"

Oda stamped it.

"Good"

Moriyama began the formal response.

It took longer than usual.

Not because they lacked language.

Because every sentence wanted to slide toward either defiance or surrender.

The first draft was too sharp.

The second too clean.

The third made Tomonari sound like a problem.

Daigo tore that one in half with permission, which made him suspiciously happy for three seconds.

The fourth held.

Kyoto Response — Kamo Sachi / Mizunashi Verified-Name Material

Kyoto acknowledges preliminary verification of audible field name “Sachi” as possible Kamo Sachi, shelter alias Sachi no Ie.

Kyoto recognizes that family-linked privacy concerns may exist.

Kyoto does not accept transfer of old-name materials to claimant household custody at this stage.

Reason:

The name emerged from an active curse site, within a broader old-name count, after current-name resonance endangered a living child.

The record is not solely a family privacy matter.

It is a field-safety, historical-registry, and curse-containment matter.

Kyoto position:

- Kamo Sachi materials remain under Kyoto restricted preservation

- supervised access may be requested by Kamo-affiliated parties

- access must not remove materials from old-name count

- privacy claims must not erase field relevance

- Kamo Tomonari’s presence at count does not create household custody or conflict by itself

- burden review of Tomonari’s continued involvement must be performed by Kyoto field lead / instructional review, not claimant household

Akiha added the principle section.

Old-name count principle:

One verified powerful name does not make unverified names less real.

Verified records guide action.

They do not define whose names matter.

Sachi should not have to be Kamo to count.

Hiro should not have to become Kamo to count either.

Tomonari looked at the final line.

"That may be too emotionally direct for a formal response"

Oda said "Correct"

"Then should we remove it?"

"No"

Daigo grinned.

Tomonari looked trapped between horror and approval.

Good.

The response was sent.

The Kamo-affiliated reply arrived before evening.

Too fast.

Always too fast when pride had been pricked.

Kamo-Affiliated Educational Liaison Reply

Kyoto’s preservation concern is noted.

However, continued review involving Kamo Tomonari creates appearance of conflict and potential exposure of household-sensitive materials to an affiliated minor.

Request:

immediate removal of Kamo Tomonari from all Kamo Sachi review functions.

Further request:

confirmation that Kamo Tomonari has not copied, summarized, interpreted, or distributed Kamo Sachi material beyond supervised Kyoto review.

Kamo-affiliated parties reserve right to object to further handling.

Tomonari read the letter without expression.

Then said "There it is"

Akiha looked at him.

"What do you want?"

He closed his eyes.

The room waited.

Not because Tomonari owned the decision.

Because the decision touched him.

"I want to continue"

Daigo said "Because you want the record?"

Tomonari opened his eyes.

"Yes"

Good.

Dangerous.

Honest.

"Because if I step away now, they can say my presence was contamination. Because if I stay, they can say I am seeking household-sensitive material. Because both are useful to them. Because I hate that my name can be used to remove me from a name"

Daigo’s hand tightened.

Akiha said "Then we need a third shape"

Miyo said "Conditional continuation"

Sawamura nodded.

"With burden witness"

Tomonari looked at him.

Sawamura continued "You continue only in non-household representative capacity, with another student and adult reviewing what you access, and with your right to pause without it becoming admission of conflict"

Tomonari breathed.

"That is good"

Daigo groaned.

"Stop rewarding him"

Tomonari ignored him.

"I do not want Akiha as the only student witness"

Akiha nodded.

"Correct"

Daigo said "I can watch"

Everyone looked at him.

He scowled.

"What? I can hate Kamo paperwork without becoming Kamo"

Miyo said "That may be useful"

Daigo looked horrified.

Tomonari said "Actually, Daigo as witness prevents retainer-formality mirror"

Daigo sat back.

"I hate when my personality becomes function"

Oda wrote:

Daigo witness function:

non-Kamo, non-retainer, hostile to paperwork, unlikely to confuse household privacy with obedience.

Daigo stared.

"I object to being accurately insulted"

"Noted" Oda said without noting the objection separately

Tomonari’s continuation note was written.

Tomonari Conditional Continuation — Kamo Sachi Review

Tomonari may continue limited review only under the following conditions:

1. role remains registry logic / formal name handling under Kyoto field lead

2. no household representation

3. no private access to Kamo Sachi materials

4. adult witness present

5. non-Kamo student witness present

6. right to pause without pause being read as conflict admission

7. right to continue without continuation being read as household claim

8. all summaries marked as Kyoto restricted review, not Kamo interpretation

Daigo added:

9. If anyone says blood knows how to read blood, I get to leave or shout.

Tomonari looked at him.

"That is crude"

"Yes"

"Keep it"

Oda stamped it.

Hayato whispered "Blood knows how to read blood sounds like something adults would say"

Akiha said "That is why Daigo named it"

Daigo looked satisfied and angry.

A difficult emotional mixture.

Common for him now.

The next reply from Kamo did not arrive that day.

That meant the response had either worked or become inconvenient.

Both were acceptable.

For now.

The larger problem remained.

One name had been verified.

The others were still waiting.

Oda placed the Sachi card back into the tray, not above the others, not beneath them.

Beside them.

Akiha noticed.

Miyo noticed Akiha notice.

Hayato noticed both and looked proud of himself for noticing noticing, then embarrassed.

Rei looked at the tray and felt something settle.

Unknown was not discarded.

Verified was not owned.

Power did not define mattering.

Good.

Not enough.

Moriyama said "Next step"

Tomonari answered.

"Historical registry review must widen from Sachi, not narrow to Sachi"

Oda wrote.

Verification should widen the count, not narrow it.

Sawamura said "Field implication?"

Rei answered carefully.

"If Sachi verification reduced curse hunger because a name received status, verifying others may reduce old-name pressure. But if verification becomes household custody, the curse may learn power selects which names get counted"

Akiha looked at him.

"Are you tracing or reasoning?"

"Reasoning"

"Accepted"

Daigo said "Good that you know the difference"

Rei nodded.

"It is worrying that I had to check"

"Correct"

Miyo said "Watcher route may prefer power-name"

Tomonari asked "Why?"

"Power-name moves more adults"

Hayato said "And more adults means more responsibility pressure"

Oda wrote.

The letter to Satoru was sent that night.

Satoru,

One Mizunashi name verified.

Sachi.

Possible identity:Kamo Sachi.

Shelter alias:Sachi no Ie.

Temporary municipal protection during intra-household relocation dispute thirty-one years ago.

Custody transferred to Kamo-affiliated domestic office.

Final child welfare record incomplete.

Rei

Akiha added:

Kamo-affiliated office requested transfer of all Sachi materials to household custody.

We refused transfer.

Restricted preservation only.

Supervised access possible.

Tomonari added:

They requested my removal from all Kamo Sachi review functions due to appearance of conflict.

I requested conditional continuation.

Role remains Kyoto registry logic, not Kamo representative.

Daigo is non-Kamo student witness.

This is regrettable but useful.

Daigo added:

I am apparently a witness because I hate paperwork and will shout if adults say blood knows how to read blood.

This is a noble sacrifice.

Hayato added:

Sachi should not have to be Kamo to count.

Hiro should not have to become Kamo to count either.

Miyo added:

One powerful verified name can eat unverified names.

Watching this.

Rei added:

Verified is not owned.

Unknown is not discarded.

Power should not decide which old names matter.

Rei

Satoru’s answer came the next morning.

Rei and room,

Kamo Sachi.

Of course.

History gets polite only when someone powerful can be embarrassed.

Satoru

Daigo said "I hate that he is right so often"

Akiha read on.

Hayato:Sachi should not have to be Kamo to count.Hiro should not have to become Kamo to count either.Excellent.Painful.Keep it away from banners.

Tomonari:Your family name is not a conflict by existing. It becomes conflict when someone uses it as handle, shield, or key.Conditional continuation is correct. Also horrible.

Daigo:“blood knows how to read blood” is exactly the kind of disgusting sentence adults invent before doing something illegal with a scroll.Shout if necessary.

Akiha:Refusing transfer while allowing supervised access is good.It makes privacy work in light.Privacy hates that when it is actually ownership.

Miyo:A powerful verified name can eat the count.Yes.Starve it by counting others badly and stubbornly.

Rei:Verified is not owned.Unknown is not discarded. You are getting better at phrases that make adults tired. This is a virtue.

The vow did not pull.

This is surrounding structure.

Not the hidden sentence.

But powerful names teach the structure who can make a record disappear.

Satoru

Tomonari copied the line about family name.

Not because it comforted him.

Because it was useful.

Daigo saw and did not comment.

Growth was terrible.

The System opened later that day, while Rei was copying the Sachi card update into his private notebook.

[Power-Name event processed]

Verified old name:

Kamo Sachi / shelter alias Sachi no Ie

Threat vectors:

- household privacy claim

- material transfer request

- Tomonari conflict framing

- power-name consuming old-name count

- verification narrowing instead of widening actionability

Cohort response:

- restricted preservation maintained

- household custody refused

- supervised access allowed under conditions

- Tomonari conditional continuation created

- old-name count principle expanded

A second message appeared.

[New analytical principle registered]

Verified is not owned.

Unknown is not discarded.

Power must not decide which names matter.

A third.

[Tomonari route update]

Risk:

family name used to remove participant from relevant review.

Protective structure:

conditional continuation under non-representation clause and non-Kamo student witness.

Warning:

Future pressure may attempt to make continuation appear ambition, disloyalty, or household claim.

No extraction.

[No extraction issued]

Current progress:

power-name handling / privacy-versus-preservation distinction / conditional continuation

Continue surviving consequence.

Rei wrote:

A name became verifiable.

Adults tried to own it.

Maybe that is what verification often means in this world.

We need another meaning.

Verified is not owned.

Unknown is not discarded.

Power must not decide which names matter.

He stamped the page.

Plain.

The mark came out too sharp.

He left it.

Some sentences deserved edges.

Far away, the unknown reader received Kyoto’s refusal to transfer Sachi materials, Tomonari’s conditional continuation note, and the old-name count principle.

The gloved hand rested on:

Sachi should not have to be Kamo to count.

Hiro should not have to become Kamo to count either.

The brush paused.

Then wrote:

Power-name route resisted.

Household custody refused.

Privacy made to operate under preservation.

Tomonari not removed.

Conditional continuation created.

Daigo witness inserted.

Irritating.

A second line.

Power cannot narrow count easily.

Then widen count too much.

The reader opened the old-name file.

Thirteen cards.

One verified.

Twelve waiting.

The brush moved to a fresh sheet.

Next:

provide multiple verifications at once.

Make counting compete with capacity.

A final line.

If every name matters, ask how many children can carry all of them.

The sheet was folded.

Placed beneath the old names.
