DMS Chapter 99
DMS Chapter 99
Flinx was resting and eating lunch when noon arrived, while he was guarded by his three elementals. He still had a lot of food that he had cooked while he was traveling with the merchant caravan from Beldor Town to the city of Ilioven.
After lunch, he continued conquering the 40th floor of the Dungeon of Mara with the wind elemental scouting ahead and the earth and water elementals moving ahead of him. He chose to walk instead of flying because Flinx didn’t want to hit the tree’s canopies above.
Besides, the forest ground was nice enough to walk on. He kept his sight on the icons that indicated the duration of his buffs. He refreshed them when needed because he didn’t want to be defenseless even for a few seconds.
While walking around, the wind elemental returned and communicated to him that the next set of enemies they would encounter were treants. Normally, Treants on the 40th floor of the dungeon of Mara would remain hidden until they ambushed the unsuspecting adventurers. Unfortunately for them, they were highly visible in the elementals’ eyes.
Once Flinx neared the area where the eight treants were located, he commanded his elementals to attack the dungeon monsters. Based on the fight, the Treants had a variety of skills they used on their enemies. To avoid being targeted, Flinx cast the 2nd-level spell Mirror Image.
He was correct in casting the said spell because some of the Treants targeted his mirror images. Flinx elementals were mighty. The earth elementals used their solid hands to pummel the treants, while the wind and water elementals used their free-flowing forms to turn their arms into sharp scythes and started cutting the treants into pieces.
Flinx joined in the fight by raining down magic bolts from his 1st-level spell that was slotted into the Cantrip Slots, the 1st-level spell slots, and some of the 2nd-level spell slots. He kept using the Magic Missile spell because of its minor homing capabilities. He couldn’t cast area of effect spells like the Fire Ball or the Chain Lightning Spell since his elementals would also be affected.
Unfortunately, there was no such thing as party members being safe from friendly fire on his system. Every being that was hit by his spells would be damaged, even allies.
Still, if he insisted on using the 5th-level Conjure Elementals as part of his attacks, he would need more single-target spells. Flinx decided that he would conduct research using his connection to Earth’s internet to search for the best single-target spells.
Because of Flinx’s Magic Missile barrage and the power of his three elementals, the eight Treants soon fell. After gathering all of the mana stones, Flinx didn’t tarry and continued moving forward.
When the wind elemental returned from its scouting, Flinx was a little surprised that the next set of dungeon monsters they would encounter were wolves. The main issue was the monster’s number. There were actually more than thirty wolves in the pack.
After refreshing his defensive spells, Flinx also cast the 3rd-level spell Fly. This time, he decided to do the opening salvo by casting several 3rd-level spells, Fireball, towards the wolves.
After he completed raining fireballs on the wolves, he commanded his three elementals to attack. The Fire Ball spells did massive damage to the wolves. Flinx managed to bring down the wolves' number to less than 20.
Flinx’s elementals fiercely fought the remaining wolves. Since Flinx was flying above, the wolves simply couldn’t reach him, so the monsters focused on fighting with the three elementals. He still assisted his three elementals by utilizing his now favorite attack, which was the Magic Missile barrage. He also sent the motes of light from his 7th-level spell Crown of Stars that were always active.
His Crown of Stars spell was a powerful 7th-level spell, and its damage was truly mighty. Once all seven motes were sent toward the enemy, it actually vanquished seven wolves. He cast the Crown of Stars spells again since the spell was ready. It made Flinx feel secure when the floating motes of light were above his head.
After a few more minutes, all of the wolves were destroyed. Flinx commanded his elementals to gather all of the mana stones that were scattered on the ground, refreshed his defensive spells, waited until all of his cooldowns were completed, and then moved on.
Flinx battled with forest gnolls, a bunch of forest ogres, gigantic mosquitoes, more treants, and more giant spiders. Finally, he reached the “boss” monster on the 40th floor. It was a two-headed ogre. It could cast spells, and it had three ogre minions.
Before commanding his three elementals to attack, he rained down a massive number of his 3rd-level Fire Ball spells on the boss monsters and their minions. He commanded the three elementals to focus on the minions first, and he would focus on the boss. He had one massive advantage. He was flying, and because of his mirror image spell, Flinx had successfully confused the two-headed ogre.
The ogre boss spell attack looked deadly. Unfortunately for it, it targeted one of Flinx’s mirror images. Flinx didn’t waste any more time and attacked the ogre using the motes of light from his Crown of Star Spells. Then he followed it up with a barrage of Magic Missiles. After that, the ogre boss was killed. At the same time, his three elementals also killed the boss’s ogre minions.
There were three items in the loot chest that appeared. A gaudy tiara, a silver chainmail, and a necklace that only a noblewoman going to a ball would wear. They looked powerful, though, based on the mana that the three items were emitting.
Since he was curious, Flinx used his 1st level spell Identify to identify the items. The Tiara was called the Tiara of Charm. It was a useless item that would increase the charm of the wearer by a huge margin. The chainmail was simple enough. It was called the Chainmail of Defense, which increased the defensive rating of the wearer. The necklace was good, though. It’s called the Necklace of Invisibility, wherein the wearer could cast the Invisibility spell three times a day.
The number of mana stones that Flinx was able to gather from the floor was massive. 15 low-level mana stones, 23 medium-level mana stones, and 10 high-level mana stones.
The best thing that he received from the floor was the experience points. He actually increased his experience points from 1 percent to 2 percent. That meant that if he kept delving to the 40th floor every day, in just 98 days, he would level up to level 8.
Flinx was hoping that the 50th floor of the dungeon of Mara would give him twice what he had received from the 40th floor. Still, three months for just one level is a little slow. He might have to look for a more powerful dungeon for leveling up his wizard class, but he would remain in the Dungeon of Mara till he reached level 8, at least. The most important part was that the monsters on the 40th floor of the Mara Dungeon were “easy” monsters, and based on Flinx’s calculation, if he rushed it, he could run the 40th floor twice a day.
He hoped that the 50th floor would be as easy as the 40th floor. Flinx would only know for sure the next day.
Once he was outside the dungeon, Flinx paid the guild their tax. He gave the guild 3 low-level mana stones, 5 medium-level mana stones, and 2 high-level mana stones. The guild people were impressed by the number of mana stones that he had submitted. He also informed them of the three items that had been received and was told to pay a total of 80 gold coins for the items' tax.
