DMS Chapter 98
DMS Chapter 98
Once Flinx’s elementals were ready, he cast his defensive buffs, which were the 1st-level spell Mage Armor, the 1st-level spell Absorb Elements, the 1st-level spell False Life, and the 3rd-level spell Stoneskin. Since it was the 40th floor, Flinx thought that it would be better to take the delve seriously.
He was just glad that he could see icons in his sight that informed him of the duration of his buffs, which would allow him to know when to recast the spell to make sure that he was protected all the time.
Flinx also cast his 7th-level spell, Crown of Stars, so that he would have an additional powerful offensive spell that he could hurl at any time. The spell would also function as his light source, even though the forest was bright enough. The Crown of Star spell would also pinpoint the mana stones that would drop from dungeon monsters.
He moved forward once Flinx was done with his preparation. He didn’t want to meet any adventurers that might follow after him, but based on what he had seen, there was a good chance that there would be very few adventurers that would delve past the 39th floor that day.
Flinx didn’t rush and just walked forward normally as if he was strolling in a park. He sent his wind elemental as a scout while his earth and water elementals were walking ahead of him.
Thankfully, the forest theme on the 40th floor of the Dungeon of Mara was easy enough to traverse. The ground was soft dirt with little vegetation, and the trees were far enough apart from each other, unlike the typical jungle. Even the temperature was comfortable.
Flinx saw that the wind elemental would make the best scout. It could actually turn itself invisible, and its flying speed was extraordinarily fast. It was logical that it would have those abilities since its body composition was made of wind.
His earth elemental was formed like a humanoid golem, much like the three Rockys, and the water golem looked like Pondy. The earth elemental was huge, and its stride was solid. It was as if on each step, it was announcing that “I’m here, and I’m inevitable!”
The water elemental’s movement was very…fluid. It didn’t walk. It glided on the ground. Based on Flinx’s observation, the water elemental could change its form depending on the type of terrain and the type of enemy it would encounter.
After walking for several minutes, the wind elemental returned and informed him by showing Flinx through some sort of telepathy that the first group of dungeon monsters that it encountered were giant spiders. Since this floor was a forest, the type of monster that he would encounter would be forest-themed as well. More than likely, aside from giant spiders, Flinx would probably encounter ogres, trolls, treants, and other forest-type monsters.
The floors of the Dungeon of Mara would have the same theme every five levels, so that meant that the forest theme would last until the 45th floor. Still, Flinx had already decided that if he could kill the monsters on this floor at a fast enough pace, he would start delving into the 50th floor, which was the last floor of this dungeon, the next day. That delve would ultimately decide if he would stay in this dungeon or would have to transfer to a much more powerful dungeon.
Flinx was hoping that the 50th floor would be enough for him to earn enough experience points to level up his Wizard class for several levels, since he liked the idea of delving in the morning and returning home to rest in the evening.
Once they reached the area where the giant spiders were located, Flinx commanded his three elementals to start attacking the spiders. He planned to observe first before joining the fight, so he would know how his three elementals fight and their actual capabilities against the monster on the 40th floor of this dungeon.
The three elementals ran ahead to engage the giant spiders. Since the stride of the earth elemental was solid and loud, it was the one that attracted the attention of the monsters first. The wind elemental turned itself invisible, while the water elemental was almost the same in a way, since it lowered itself into the ground until it almost resembled moving water.
What amazed Flinx was the way the wind elemental and the water elemental waited until all of the giant spiders’ attention was taken by the earth elemental, which was basically the job of a tank in a party.
The spiders spat webs toward the earth elemental. Based on Flinx’s observation, if typical adventurers were hit by the spiderwebs, they would get stuck and more than likely would be unable to move anymore, which in turn would allow the spiders to take their time in attacking their stuck enemies.
The earth elemental didn’t have that problem. The spiderwebs didn’t stop it at all since its great strength allowed it to tear the spider's webs apart. The stickiness of the spiderweb also didn’t hamper the movement of the earth elemental. Flinx saw that it was because the ground was assisting in dissolving the spiderwebs, which was basically the earth helping the earth elemental.
Once the earth elemental reached one of the spiders, it began pummeling it nonstop until it became minced meat. The rest of the giant spiders started attacking the earth elemental.
Flinx saw the earth elemental finally receiving damage from the dungeon monsters. Back on the 30th floor, all monsters’ attacks were basically ignored by the earth elementals.
The earth elemental just ignored the cuts it was receiving from the spiders. Even when one of its arms was torn, it ignored it. After a few seconds, though, all the cuts regenerated, and the torn limb grew back. Flinx saw that the earth elemental was using the ground to regenerate.
Once the giant spiders were fully engaged with the earth elemental, the water and wind elementals started attacking. Both elementals turned their arms into sharp blades, and both the wind and water elementals started cutting the spiders into pieces.
Flinx planned to allow his three elementals to fight for a few minutes so he could learn their fighting style, then he would assist them by casting offensive spells until all the enemies were destroyed. He was flabbergasted to see that he couldn’t join in the fight since his three elementals made short work of the giant spiders. Still, he assisted them a little by killing two of the spiders by raining Magic Missile bolts on them from three casts of the Magic Missile spell.
Based on the result of his first battle on the 40th floor, the monsters here were still easy enough for him to kill. The battle didn’t even last five minutes. Flinx commanded his elementals to gather all of the mana stones, and after they were all handed to him, they moved forward.
The next enemies consisted of just three monsters. They were gigantic, though, which was the typical size of forest trolls.
Before his three elementals reached the three trolls, Flinx cast a couple of Fireballs towards the three trolls. He had read from most fantasy novels that fire and acid would offset the trolls’ powerful regeneration abilities. He didn’t know if it was the same in this world.
Once the three elementals reached the trolls, the earth, wind, and water elementals engaged a troll each. The wind elemental didn’t turn itself invisible. It started fighting one of the trolls head-on, and the water elemental was the same.
He assisted the elementals by sending the motes from his Crown of Stars towards the trolls’ heads, and because of that, they easily killed the three trolls. When the elementals gathered the mana stones and were stored by Flinx in his 4th tab space, he renewed his defensive spells and cast a new Crown of Stars spell, then they continued moving forward.
