It was very late when they reached home. Olivia and her brothers still looked like they were full of doubts when they saw that there was nothing inside the garden they entered through a gate. While they were inside the carriage that was bringing them home, it was David who informed Olivia, Christopher, and Ambrose that the land was previously a garden of a manor and that Flinx had purchased it for 1,200 gold coins.
Flinx was surprised that the kid knew the details of the transaction. He thought that the kids were busy playing and weren’t listening to his conversation with the merchant and the nobleman.
When Olivia saw the garden, she declared that the amount that Flinx had paid was just right. He believed Olivia since she had the experience to know the prices of the land here, and if he was being honest, he was relieved that he wasn’t cheated. He didn’t want to be known as someone who could be easily cheated out of his money. Of course, with his powers, he could retaliate if the merchant guild cheated him, but the issue was that Flinx didn’t want any trouble.
He just wanted to start delving into dungeons to level up his wizard class as soon as possible, and that would be delayed if he indulged himself in dealing with troubles.
Flinx retrieved the solar lamp that he had purchased before and turned it on. Everyone looked amazed at the gadget, but he just concentrated on completing the design of Galder’s Tower. Olivia asked why it had to be a tower. Couldn’t he just design it a different way?
“I tried it, but the spell resisted conforming into another form. The spell is called Galder’s Tower, and that’s probably why,” Flinx replied.
Once everyone was satisfied with the design of the tower, Flinx didn’t delay any longer and cast the Galder’s Tower spell while making sure that the new design was foremost in his mind. A five-story Galder’s Tower appeared, and it still looked extremely beautiful. Thankfully, the tower was still only as high as the original manor. Olivia and her brother looked extremely amazed.
Once they all entered the tower, Flinx cast the 2nd-level spell Arcane Lock towards the gate, the tower’s door, and windows, making sure that the four kids, Olivia, and her two brothers were designated to be able to enter the Arcane Lock. One advantage of the Arcane Lock spell was that it would remain until he dispelled it. It wasn’t a foolproof spell since it was one of the simplest spells that could easily be bypassed, like, for example, on the gates, a person could just climb on top of the wall to bypass it.
Still, the tower was a solid structure, and there were no other openings except for the windows and the door. The Arcane Lock would be enough for now, since if a thief tried to bypass the spell, it would cause quite a commotion that would garner the attention of the guards. Another point was that there were no valuables inside the tower.
Flinx thought that the Arcane Lock spell was enough to keep the place safe for now, but he would talk to Olivia regarding the safety situation in this place. He might need to use more spells for the tower’s defense, but looking at the street, it looked safe enough, considering that it was a street where minor nobles lived.
The four kids were the ones who showed off the first floor to Olivia and her two brothers. They showed off the sink’s ability to produce hot and cold water, and pointed out the fact that the light was magic and sourceless. The light could also be controlled using a voice command that starts with the word “Tower”, like “Tower, please turn down the lights.” The command was only applicable inside the bedrooms.
They also told their new tutor what Flinx had told them before. That the temperature inside the tower would always be comfortable, whatever the temperature outside may be. They also showed off the complete kitchen tools. That was one of the good things about Galder’s Tower. There were complete kitchen tools and equipment one could use to cook full meals.
Flinx was impressed by how detailed David’s descriptions were. It proved that the kids were listening while he gave them the tour earlier.
They all then rushed off to the other floors while the four kids gave details of every floor. They already knew which bedroom was for which since all of them had contributed to the design of the room earlier.
Flinx knew that David and the others would enjoy teaching Olivia, Christopher, and Ambrose how to use the toilet, the shower, and the bath. Even though each room had complete furnishings, he thought that the first thing they would need to do the next day was to shop for their personal things, like more clothing for the kids, soaps, toothbrushes, and other hygiene stuff. Thankfully, he could assign all of those things to Olivia and her brothers.
Once all of them returned to the first floor, Flinx saw the look of amazement on Olivia and her brothers’ faces.
“Your wizard’s tower is truly magical!” Olivia exclaimed, and her brothers looked like they agreed with her statement.
“You can bring your things from the place where you're staying to your room tomorrow,” Flinx told Olivia.
The kids’ new tutor and her brothers suddenly looked embarrassed.
“We don’t have things anymore. We’ve been carrying all our possessions inside our bags,” Olivia said.
He blinked at what Olivia had said. Flinx did notice that they were all carrying bags, but the sizes were not that big, so he thought that they were just for their personal small things. He never expected that the three were so poor that they didn’t have any possessions left.
“Fine. Let’s talk about your duties and responsibilities. I will be honest. Your main duty is to take care of the kids.”
David interrupted Flinx with a shout.
“We don’t need to be taken care of! We’ve been taking care of ourselves ever since we left the orphanage!”
Flinx just rolled his eyes at what David had said and continued talking to Olivia.
“I need to ask you about the security of this place. How safe are the regular people? For example, if you are by yourself, can you shop without anyone robbing you blind while you’re on the street?”
“Here? It’s extremely safe here. First off, this street is where some minor nobles live, and they made sure that this area is extremely safe for their families. I’m talking about the streets where the rich live, and the area near the dungeon. That’s where most of the branches of different guilds are located, so no one is stupid enough to create trouble here,” Olivia said, then she described the total area where it was expected that those who live inside were safe.
Olivia told Flinx that once a person left the “safe” territory and went to the slum area or the areas governed by the underworld, then it was expected that they might not survive. Christopher added that outside of those areas, the expected troubles were basically the normal troubles that one could find in any kingdom.
“We’ve been living here, and we haven’t been killed yet!” David said, and Flinx just ignored the kid who frowned.
“If we open a shop and the shop becomes successful, will we encounter any troubles? Like a gang attempting to get coins from us or something?” Flinx asked.
“Normally, something like that does occur, but if the owner of the shop is a powerful adventurer like yourself, who is a Diamond Rank magic caster, then no one would be foolish enough to trouble the shop. Ordinary people are still not aware of the true capabilities of magic casters. No one would want to trouble someone who can turn them into frogs and feed them to the dogs,” Olivia said with a smile.
