Flinx was thankful that they received the respect from the restaurant’s staff that was deserved of the crystal-framed Adventurer Guild card that signified his rank as a Diamond Rank adventurer.
They were brought into a private room where they could eat in peace. David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet lifted their chests, acting as if they were a bunch of noble brats, which only made Flinx smile. Even Olivia and her two brothers, Christopher and Ambrose, smiled.
Olivia and her two brothers' reactions upon their entering the posh restaurant confirmed a little of Flinx’s theory that they were some sort of fallen nobles. They looked like they were used to entering such places.
When Flinx was given the menu, he gave it to Olivia and asked her to order for them. Olivia showed her intelligence by asking each one of them, including the children, what they wanted to eat, and she was not fazed when the kids gave her a description of the food they wanted instead of the name of the recipe. Once she received everyone’s likes and dislikes, she smoothly ordered food for everyone. Even the waiter was a little impressed at her commanding aura.
They were informed by the waiter that their food would arrive in thirty minutes.
“While we’re waiting, let’s conduct the interview. This is what I need. I need someone to teach the kids what they need to learn to function well in society. I also require that person to know how to cook since I will be busy delving into the dungeon to attend to the children’s food needs. I want to make sure that the food will be sufficient to satisfy the palate and nutrition of everyone. Lastly, I may require the person that I’ll hire to open a shop so that the family can earn additional coins to support everyone.”
“I can do all of those things!” Olivia said with a resolute attitude.
“Of course, before hiring you, I need more information. First, why did you approach me instead of letting the manpower agency recommend you to me?”
Olivia actually turned red, and even her brothers became uncomfortable.
“We did list our names there, but they stopped recommending us when prospective employers learned who we were and didn’t want to hire us. I will be honest. Our family used to be a noble family. My mother died of sickness a few years ago, and my father was killed by bandits during one of his business trips. Our family enemies made sure that all of our assets were taken, and we couldn’t do anything about it because it was justified. Father had accrued a lot of debts to support the venture that got him killed. There was simply nothing left, so we had no choice but to look for jobs. I forbid my brothers from becoming adventurers because they’re simply not trained that way and would most likely get killed during their first foray inside a dungeon. I also don’t want to prostitute myself to earn coins, so I thought of becoming a helper or a tutor, but because of our family’s reputation, no one wanted us.”
“What reputation?”
Olivia’s brothers avoided Flinx’s eyes, and both stared at the ground while Olivia looked deeply ashamed.
“My father was not a good man. He did everything a crooked businessman could do to earn coins and the stigma attached to us,” Olivia simply said.
Flinx decided that he didn’t care about Olivia and her brother’s family history. First off, what did it matter when their father was a bad man? Their father was already dead, and no one would make trouble for a Diamond Rank magic caster simply because of a dead, bad noble. Second, based on what Olivia had said, they had already paid off all of the debts from the remaining assets of their family.
The main issue was that Olivia had the ability to tutor the kids. The problem was that she presented the behavior that she didn’t know how to cook.
“I don’t care about what your father had done. My guild rank and my power as a magic caster would prevent anyone from troubling me because of any servants that I’ll choose to hire. The main issue is can you cook?”
“She can’t, but I can. I’ve been learning how to cook ever since I was little,” Christopher said.
“I’ll be your house guard!” Ambrose added, not wanting to be thought of as useless.
“What is the standard pay for a tutor, a cook, and a guard, and how much do you want me to pay the three of you?”
“The standard monthly pay is 2 gold coins for a tutor, 1 gold coin for a good cook, and 1 gold coin for a guard. Since you mentioned that you wanted us to stay in your house, we can accept 2 gold coins for the three of us, including room and board,” Olivia said.
“Fine. I’ll hire you for a month to test whether your services are acceptable.”
Olivia and her two brothers looked relieved when Flinx told them that they were hired. Flinx saw that they didn’t mind the provision that he would let them go if the quality of their services was not up to par.
Their food arrived, and during the next few minutes, everyone was busy eating. After a few minutes, they had satisfied their hunger, but they all planned to continue eating and were just resting a bit.
“We need to talk about the shop that you mentioned. What kind of shop will it be?” Olivia asked.
“I’m not sure yet. I’ll think about it later,” Flinx simply replied, which made Olivia blink, but then again, they all just returned to eating.
Once they were full, as expected, half of the food remained. Olivia asked the waiter to prepare the remaining food to be taken away, and the waiter immediately worked on it. Flinx started to like the fact that Olivia, and probably her brothers, knew how to deal with service staff.
After their table was cleaned, Flinx ordered coffee for himself, and Olivia did the same. Christopher and Ambrose wanted to order wine, but with a glare from Olivia, they switched to coffee as well, while the kids ordered fruit juice.
“Now the next thing we need to do is to design our tower,” Flinx told Olivia.
“What do you mean by that?! Is your tower still going to be constructed?” Olivia exclaimed.
David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet laughed.
“Silly miss. Flinx is a powerful wizard and can conjure, in an instant, a wizard’s tower based on the plan that we’ll make inside his magic book. He did it earlier, and the tower was beautiful, but he made it disappear when he said that we would need to add another floor where our teacher would stay,” David told Olivia.
Olivia and her two brothers looked disbelieving at what David had said, but since all of the kids insisted, they had no choice but to believe. Besides, they would be able to see it later once they were at the place where Flinx was supposed to conjure the tower.
Flinx retrieved his Android tablet from his 4th tab space and, just like before, started designing their version of Galder’s Tower. The first floor, which was the living room, dining room, and kitchen rolled into one, remained the same. The bathroom and toilet’s design, which was going to be on the fourth floor, also remained the same, as well as Flinx’s bedroom, which would be on the top floor.
The second floor would be the rooms of David, Arcios, Keero, and Olivia’s brothers, Christopher, and Ambrose, while the third floor would be Olivia and Violet’s rooms.
Their work was interrupted by a manager of the restaurant to tell them that the room where they were staying to eat was needed by another group of customers. Instead of arguing with the restaurant, Flinx paid for everything, which cost him 10 gold coins, and left for home. They planned to continue designing the tower once they reached the land that Flinx purchased.
