DMS Chapter 68
DMS Chapter 68
Flinx and the four children traveled for a couple of hours by carriage and finally reached the Department of Ilioven Citizenship. That was what the driver had called the department that handles the identification of its citizens.
Upon entering the building, Flinx presented the permit that was given to him by the gate guards to the guard at the door. The permit was just a simple paper that had his name, his class, which was stated as a magic caster, his identity as a member of the Adventurer Guild, and his rank within the guild, which was gold rank by the time he entered the gates of Ilioven. The guard then asked him to go to one of the counters.
When Flinx reached it, the lady by the counter asked what he needed.
“I would like to have a more permanent identification than this permit, and also to make sure that the identification papers would state that I’ve reached the Diamond Rank within the Adventurer Guild. I would also like to have the names of these four children changed, and their status changed to formal citizens.”
The lady took the permit that was given to him by the gate guards, then she did something on her crystal ball, which was the local version of their computer. The lady receptionist then told him to wait on the left side by the chairs. Someone would come to assist him in completing his requests.
Flinx and the four kids went to the receiving area, which was filled with chairs to wait. After around 10 minutes, a man arrived, calling out his name. When he called the man, he was led into an office.
The meeting was straightforward. Basically, all of his requests would be completed within the hour, as long as he had the coins. The total amount he paid was a little high, which was 50 gold coins, but he promptly gave it to the man. As promised, no longer than 30 minutes, the man returned with all the papers that Flinx requested. Once was an identification paper that stated that he could stay in Ilioven for a year. He was reminded to return after a year to renew his permit. The next set of papers was David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet’s identification papers.
The children checked their papers, but since they didn’t know how to read, they didn’t know what it said, so Flinx read it to them. The paper just stated the orphanage where they grew up, and the lady nun who was managing the orphanage. The papers had official stamps that were supposed to prove that they were real. The only thing that was left to be done was for the kids to put their names on the signature line.
“Let me hold on to these papers for you. Once we’re in the tower, you can put them in your cupboards or bags, then when you’ve learned how to read and write, you can put your name on your papers,” Flinx told the children.
David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet agreed. They looked delighted that the kingdom had now given them formal identities. Flinx saw that the kids were truly grateful for what he did for them, and more than likely, he now had their loyalty.
Next, Flinx asked the kids to bring him somewhere where he could find a tutor for them. The four children told him they knew where to bring him, which proved the fact that they were capable guides.
The place where they wanted to bring him was near the citizenship department, so they chose to walk there. While they were walking, Flinx thought of the fact that this day was an extremely busy day. First, he had acquired four children, then he had to fight a very powerful shield warrior for his rank-up test, bought a land where he could place his Galder’s Tower, went to this kingdom's citizenship department, and finally, went to the place where he could hire a tutor slash cook for them.
Flinx checked the time, and it was already five in the afternoon. He wanted to complete everything that needed to be done by this day or, at the very least, by tomorrow. He wanted to delve into the dungeon as soon as possible.
Upon arriving at the place where he could hire the person they wanted, he was a little surprised that there were so many people there. Flinx realized that the prospective hires were actually loitering around the place.
Because Flinx had prominently displayed his Diamond Rank card as a medallion on his chest, he had been receiving respect wherever he went. That was the reason why the people in this place did not approach him willy-nilly.
While studying the building, Flinx was surprised when a woman, followed by two male teenagers, approached him. The woman, who looked to be in her mid-twenties, looked extremely afraid but had a resolute expression. Her two followers, who looked too much like her that they could be nothing but her relatives, probably her brothers, also looked afraid, but at the same time, they had the surliness of teenagers.
The women’s and the boys’ clothes looked like the clothing worn by nobles, but they were a little worse for wear with visible patches.
Flinx had an inkling that they were some sort of fallen nobles.
“Excuse me, sir. Are you looking to hire someone?” The lady asked.
Flinx could see that the lady was bracing herself. He studied them for a minute while the four orphans busied themselves playing by his side.
He finally answered the young woman.
“Yes. I’m looking to hire a tutor for the kids who can also cook. I require the tutor slash cook to stay at my tower full-time.”
“My name is Olivia Dumont, and these are my brothers Chirstopher and Ambrose. I have received education since I was young and am fully capable of teaching kids to read, write, and do basic numbers. I can also teach the history of Ilioven and noble etiquette,” Olivia said nervously.
“Can you cook, lady?” David asked boldly.
“Yeah, she can cook, runt,” one of Olivia’s brothers said.
“My name is not runt! It’s David!” the kid shouted.
Flinx almost laughed out loud. The fact that Olivia’s brother called David a runt, which was his previous name, was such an outrageous coincidence that he couldn’t help himself. At least he managed to stop the laugh from coming out.
“Yes, my sister can cook,” Olivia’s other brother said.
Flinx saw Olivia side-eyeing her brothers, which told Flinx that more than likely, Olivia couldn’t cook. The problem was that Olivia and her two brothers looked pitiful. They were too thin, bordering on malnutrition. He wondered what their situation was. He just sighed.
“I’m hungry. Let’s go eat somewhere. I’ll interview you while we’re eating, and you don’t need to worry. It will be my treat. David, bring us to the nearest nice restaurant.”
David and the other three kids looked excited at the prospect of eating inside a nice restaurant. The four kids knew that wherever they went, they would be treated like a bunch of nobles, simply because of the crystal-framed medallion that Flinx was wearing.
Flinx followed the kids, who immediately ran off, while Oliva and her two brothers followed him. They arrived at a huge restaurant, and based on what Flinx could see, it was one of the nicest anyone could go to in this area.
If Flinx was being honest, he was a little nervous. Even back on Earth, he had never been to a posh place. The only thing that gave him confidence was the Diamond Rank card that he was wearing as a medallion.
