Chapter 115 Cognitive Resonance

Lucas' eyes suddenly became completely silver, and his gaze illuminated a section of the forest. He then raised his right hand as if waiting for something.
The car suddenly started trembling, and the trunk window shattered as the spear came flying directly into his hand.
He focused his gaze on the creature and hurled the spear directly at it.
"TEAR!"
The spear traveled like lightning and pierced the slippery shadow directly through the middle. Its advance suddenly stopped, and its form became once more that of a humanoid bat.
When the bat sensed him approaching, it turned its head mechanically. The spear pierced its heart, and the effect of the spear made it impossible for the creature to turn back into a shadow.
As the creature took its last breath, just for a moment it saw a tint of blood-red in Lucas' pupils before it quickly disappeared.

He then went up to the car and drove it closer to the dead body, then grabbed it and shoved it into his trunk.

But he wanted the bat's flying ability or its ability to turn into a shadow.
Cognitive Resonance, that was the name of his new ability. By tuning his mind to the specific biological frequency of another creature, he could lock onto their consciousness.
So, basically, once he touched something for a longer period of time, or fought a creature, their heartbeat and brainwaves left a permanent mental signature in his mind.
Even if the creature tried blocking its presence with some sort of supernatural cloaking, he could still sense it if it was within his range, which was 3 km (1.8 miles).
This was basically an upgrade to his senses. Now he could stalk a creature from a distance without losing it, and if an opponent tried to run, he could still catch them.
As he sat in the driver's seat, Lucas couldn't help but think about the previous fight. The creature was not really stronger than the previous monster, but it had an advantage over him and was very slippery.
This highlighted his weakness against flying creatures. He couldn't always have weapons on him, and if there had been more than one, he could have lost his life.
This made him restrain some of his arrogance and think more carefully about how to face the incoming Alpha Pack.
