Chapter 87: The Morning After
"Eh....am I seeing this correctly?"
"There’s no way that’s actually her right?"
"What is she doing lying out on the streets like this?"
"Yura’s in town!? And she’s sleeping on the floor outside!?"
The murmurs of a small crowd caught Loraine’s ears, her crimson eyes fluttering open slowly as she let out a small yawn, realizing that the morning had arrived. Adventurers, common townsfolk, and everyone in between had arrived to see the spectacle.
They had heard rumors of Yura’s predicament and had quickly gathered in masses to witness it, the whole town immediately being notified of this spectacle.
"Oh shit-!" Loraine gasped in surprise, realizing that a whole crowd had formed before them, her eyes darting over to Yura who was still asleep, the crimson haired woman deep in her slumber and completely oblivious to the people talking about her.
"Hey, Yura! Wake up!" She said, her hands gently grabbing Yura’s shoulders as she began to shake the woman a bit, trying to awake her.
"Hm? Go away you damn rat....come any closer and I’ll cut you in two!" Yura muttered in her sleep, Loraine feeling a bit awkward as she watched Yura mumble words and violent curses, probably having an exciting dream.
’She looks so vulnerable when she’s sleeping like this, not a good look for someone as feared and revered as her, though I will admit it is quite cute.’ Loraine thought to herself with a small smile on her face.
’Well, if she won’t awake normally, then I guess I’ll have to resort to extreme measures.’ She said to herself mentally, placing two fingers together as she brought them to Yura’s face, the tips glowing a bright blue as she activated [Magical Grasp].
SNAP!!!
BANG!!
"!?!!?" The sounds of a loud snap made Yura jump awake in full alert, the crimson haired woman’s body standing up right in an instant as she reached for her spear out of pure reflex, her eyes wide and sharp as her eyes darted around everywhere to find the threat.
She soon stopped however as she realized that there wasn’t a threat anywhere, and that a huge crowd had gathered before them, a surprised look adorning her features as she realized that they had probably found them sleeping outside, an embarrassed sigh escaping her lips as she scratched her head.
"Well damn it, I guess it was inevitable in the end." Yura said to herself, her eyes settling on the crowd for a moment, their constant muttering and whispering getting on her nerves, as she was starting to feel annoyed.
A dark, sinister, and wrathful aura began to form around Yura, her crimson gaze bearing her rage as she delivered a powerful glare at the crowd, the whispers and talks dying out immediately as they all felt a heavy weight settling into their chest, a powerful wave of fear crashing over them as they realized they had provoked someone that wasn’t to be messed with.
"What are you staring at? Get out of here," Yura said in a cold tone, her command was fierce and absolute as the crowd immediately obeyed and moved away from her, retreating back into the streets.
"A bit much don’t you think?" Loraine asked, her expression a bit sad as she felt bad for the townsfolk, but at the same time she was glad they were gone as she didn’t like that kind of environment anyway.
"Anyway, glad to see you’re awake, the other’s are probably busy eating breakfast right now, we should join them since the Inn is open again." Loraine said, turning to walk inside the Inn as Yura followed closely behind.
The bell chimed softly as they entered the building, the receptionist lifting her eyes from her desk as they approached, the receptionist’s eyes widening in surprise and intimidation as she felt the piercing glare coming from Yura, her body tensing up instinctively.
"G-Good morning....." The receptionist greeted weakly, trying to put on a smile though it was obvious she was clearly hesitant.
Loraine and Yura gave each other a look, a silent communication passing between them before they returned their attention back to the receptionist.
She cleared her throat for a moment, understanding why they were probably here in the first place, and she felt the need to explain herself properly as she didn’t want to come off as rude and insulting. Especially not to someone like Yura Aliviere.
"I’m sincerely apologiz-!"
"No it’s fine, you don’t have to say sorry, it was out fault for being out so late." Loraine spoke up, abruptly cutting the receptionist off as she bowed her head slightly. "We should’ve slept in, but we had decided to sneak out and paid the price for it, so there’s no need for that. I apologize on Yura’s behalf, and mine as well."
"Yeah, what she said, my bad or whatever." Yura said, though it didn’t really sound sincere and it was blatantly obvious that she was still mad deep down.
"Anyway, have a great day." Loraine said, grabbing the crimson haired woman’s wrist as she led them away, walking to the dining room.
As they walked, Yura’s crimson gaze travelled to Loraine’s clothes, the scratch mark and visible tears all over her maid uniform and making it look tattered, even though it was technically clean, highlighting visible areas of her skin and making the outfit look slightly provocative.
"Are you sure you want to head into a crowded place with that?" Yura spoke up, getting Loraine’s attention as she pointed at her outfit.
"Ah!" Loraine gasped in surprise, a bright flush of embarrassment creeping up her face as she realized what Yura was implying, her eyes looking down at how tattered and torn her outfit looked, her arms wrapping around herself as she felt the need to cover herself.
"Crap you’re right, I almost forgot about last night." Loraine said, standing still for a moment. "You know what, you can go ahead, I need to get changed." She said, turning around as she began to run back towards her booked room.
Yura watched her retreat for a moment, a small smile on her face as she resumed her walk back into the restaurant.
As she walked in, the rest of the adventurers were gathered, full dressed up and ready to go. The scene was lively as everyone at together to restore their strength for the journey ahead, everyone discussing among themselves and having a good time.
"Hm?" Sarah hummed as she heard the sounds of footsteps approaching her, lifting up her head to see Yura walking towards her, her eyes widening in surprise and relief as she stood up abruptly from her chair.
"Where were you!?" Sarah asked in a confronting tone, "I was looking for you both everywhere, and I couldn’t find you at all!" She said, Yura chuckling as she slid into a seat across from Sarah.
"Relax, we were only out exploring at night, but we lost track of time and when we eventually returned, all the Inn’s were closed, including this one, so we had no choice to sleep outside." She said, her words surprising Sarah.
’They slept outside? In the cold?’ Sarah thought to herself, feeling a bit bad, but also feeling curious as to what Yura meant by exploring, a bad feeling washing over her as she didn’t like where this was possibly headed.
"Where’s Loraine, was she not with you?" Sarah asked, raising a brow as she scanned the area for her best friend, a bit confused.
"Oh don’t worry she was, she just needs to change her clothing, she’ll be back in a moment." Yura said in a casual tone, though Sarah had misinterpreted the meaning, her eyes widening in surprise.
’Change her...clothing? What for?’ Sarah thought to herself, a bit suspicious. She didn’t know why the both of them had left in the middle of the night, her mind drifting back to the conversation of the previous night and how scared she was at the thought of Loraine adopting an adventurer role.
’There’s no way she actually did it....right?’
Loraine eventually returned after a few minutes, the sounds of her hurried footsteps approaching them as she waved at Sarah and Yura, a bright smile on her face as she felt far more refreshed and didn’t have to worry about her appearance anymore.
"Sarah! Yura!" She called out, a joyful lilt in her tone. She approached the desk as she slid into a chair beside the both of them, Sarah looking relieved to see Loraine but not bothering to say anything, while Yura was seated looking composed and radiant as ever.
’The air feels a bit strange, Sarah feels a bit...hesitant to talk to me right now.’ Loraine thought to herself, being able to perceive Sarah’s intentions and feelings, a small sigh escaping her lips as Loraine came to the conclusion that Sarah most likely knew what was up, and she needed to make up for it.
Loraine placed a hand over her Sarah’s, the blonde haired maiden’s eyes widening as she gazed into Loraine’s crimson gaze, seeing her best friend’s apologetic stare, her breath hitching in her throat for a moment.
"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have sneaked out last night."
