Strongest Maid In Another World

Chapter 75: The Night Hunt

Loraine blinked at Yura’s statement, eyes wide with shock and quiet resignation. Her mind flashed back to the incident in the alleyway, the horror on Jacob’s face, and the will to prove to herself that she could survive in this dangerous world.

But if Yura’s words were really true, if even F-Rank monsters were far more dangerous than the likes of Jack’s gang, than was her goal really obtainable?

’No, I shouldn’t think like this. I have a Mythical Talent, I’m not someone ordinary!’ Loraine thought to herself, clenching her fist as her determination rose again.

She made a promise to carve out her life in this world, and she wasn’t going to back down now, after all, she was far more prepared than she had any right to be.

’Healing Items, legendary gear, wealth beyond ordinary means...’ She glanced over at the [Ring Of Storage] located around her finger, filled with treasures that no normal person had any right owning, and here she was with all of it to herself.

Of course she knew that whoever this ring belonged to was probably someone of great importance, after all, if someone could easily store so much treasure in a single ring, what on earth would their entire treasure look like.

"I understand, sorry," Loraine apologized to both Sarah and Yura, lowering her head. While to both of them Loraine sounded disappointed, inwardly she was already planning on how she could test the waters to see if the monsters really were as dangerous as Yura had described.

’I need to see this for myself, if they’re really as dangerous as she says they are, then perhaps I’ll just have to continue completing my Daily Quests for a longer period of time until I’m ready to face them then.’

’But if I can handle them, then I will hunt every single monster down, no matter what it takes!’

Sarah and Yura glanced at each other, the atmosphere had instantly shifted and they could both tell that something wasn’t right. Sarah was the first to react, gently placing a hand over Loraine’s, trying to comfort her best friend.

"Don’t apologize, I’m just glad you’re not doing anything rash," Sarah said, Loraine glancing over at Loraine, the white haired maiden revealing a small smile on her face.

"Well at least you understand," Yura said, leaning back in her chair as she plopped some more food in her mouth. "It’s our job as adventurers to protect those who can’t protect themselves, so don’t do anything crazy okay?" Yura asked, Loraine nodding with a small chuckle.

"Alright, I won’t try anything stupid..." Loraine said, though it didn’t come out as confident as she had hoped.

’Hm?’ Yura’s eyes widened a little, a nagging suspicion tugging at her conscience as she could tell that Loraine was acting strange.

She wanted to chalk it up to Loraine just being hurt at the fact that she couldn’t be an adventurer, but the way Loraine avoided eye contact made her feel like something bigger was up to play.

For now however, she was going to play along and act oblivious.

’Let’s see what you’re really up to.’

After the dinner was over, Loraine paid the tab and the group of 3 made their way out of the restaurant and walked over to their rooms. Loraine wished a goodnight’s rest to both Sarah and Yura and entered her room.

She stood by the door for a moment, letting out a sigh as she glanced outside of her window into the night sky, far into the distance of Aveldon.

’Sorry for what I’m about to do, but I just can’t help myself.’ Loraine thought to herself, apologizing to her friends as she walked over to her bed, sitting at the edge of the bed as she began to wait.

Seconds passed, then minutes, until about an hour later, Loraine decided to make her move. Unlocking the door to her room, she opened it slightly and used [Maiden’s Intuition] to make feel for the presence of Yura and Sarah, finding them within their room as expected.

"They must be asleep by now, now’s my chance to leave." Loraine muttered to herself, silently closing the door behind her as she made her way out of the Inn.

Loraine exited the inn and walked down the streets of Aveldon, the night sky twinkling with stars and blowing forth a cold, chilly breeze, the streets eerily quiet except for the sounds of adventurers partying at the pub, and the occasional pedestrian passing by.

She exited the small town, walking quite a few miles away from the town until she stood in the fields, moonlight reflecting off the grass stretching out for miles ahead.

Loraine stood in the field for a moment, hands in her pockets as she took in the cold night air and admired the scenery, a strange sense of calm enveloping her.

’I didn’t think it would be this beautiful out tonight, but I’m glad I came out here.’ She thought to herself, glancing around the area as she sat herself down on the grass.

’There’s a forest very far away from here, perhaps If I go there, I could find monsters to test myself against. With [Aura Of Haste] I should be able to reach it very quickly, and I should be able to make it back before the Inn-!’

The sounds of the ground trembling immediately broke her train of thought, her skin crawling, ears ringing, and eyes widening as her entire being screamed danger, [Maiden’s Intuition] kicking in and firing off danger signals throughout Loraine’s body.

"Oh shi-!" Loraine cursed under her breath, her hands glowing as she took out her [Twin Steel Cleavers], the two butcher’s blades gleaming in the moonlight as she spun around to face her enemy, a heavy force knocking the wind out of her and sending her flying back.

CLANG!

"Urgh!"

[-120 HP!]

CRASH!!!!!

[-40 HP]

"Cough! Cough!" Loraine coughed as she skid across the ground, being blown back an impressive distance as pain flared all over her chest, even though she had managed to block the intruder’s attack.

’What the hell....’ She thought to herself, her vision focusing as she couldn’t believe her eyes, confusion, and a powerful sense of dread washing over her.

A whole group of white, furry creatures with red beady eyes making their way toward her, radiating an aura of malice.

"R....rabbits?" Loraine raised a brow in confusion, identifying her enemies. She placed a hand over her chest, having lost a good chunk of her health from one blow. "Are these monsters? They sure don’t look like it, but that attack felt like it could’ve hurt me really bad there."

She slowly pushed herself off the ground, her crimson eyes turning a bright shade of blue as they glowed, magical runes appearing in them as she activated [Eyes Of Appraisal], using the Skill to appraise her enemies.

"Devil Rabbits...huh...." Loraine muttered to herself, analyzing her enemies more closely. They were far larger than normal rabbits, and looked far more terrifying as well.

Their fur was white, mixed with a tinge of brown as they had emerged from underneath the soil, Loraine figuring out as they had used that as a way to ambush her, a massive hole behind them as they menacingly approached her.

’The aura radiating off of them is fierce, and just by looking at their stats, they are already close to my level!?’

Loraine thought to herself in disbelief, a bit nervous as there was around 4 of them in total, with the one at the back remaining completely still and radiating a terrifying aura that far surpassed the rest.

"Yura wasn’t kidding, now I feel almost stupid for coming out here, the one at the back is just standing there....looking at me." She muttered to herself, shifting her gaze to the one at the back as she appraised it as well.

This one had a sharp horn on it’s head, the bone twisted erratically and it’s size was bigger than the others. Loraine gulping nervously as she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

’But luckily for me, I have just the Skill to deal with you.’

She thought to herself as her confidence returned, just for it to be met with a system notification, a chime ringing in her mind as her system manifested before her gaze.
