Strongest Maid In Another World

Chapter 56: The Lionheart’s Arrival

The night was young, the wind blew a cold, fresh breeze across the horizon. The stars shone like flickering candles in the night sky, as they had come out to play and grace the world with their marvelous splendor.

Inside the Royal Capital East Prison Unit.

A young woman dressed in an adventurer’s outfit was seated across an officer of the Royal Guard, her hair as dark as she night sky as she recounted everything that had transpired that night to the officer, an urgent tone in her voice.

"So you’re saying that all of them were found unconscious when you had first arrived there?" The officer asked, raising a brow as he looked at the woman infront of him with a questioning gaze.

He was the chief officer of the Royal Capital’s East Prison Unit, a gruff man with a scar across his face, his body dressed in a large suit of armor that hugged his body and provided protection from all sources of damage, the steel gleaming in the dim light as he spoke.

"Yes sir, I was walking through the streets when I heard loud sounds, each one sounding like an explosion!" She said, leaning over the desk as her expression turned serious. "I was terrified of the sounds, figuring that a gang war must’ve erupted from within those deserted alleyways, and I had quickly ran to gather the guards."

"I didn’t understand what was happening, but I knew that by the sounds, that whoever was responsible for them had to be someone extremely powerful! They would have to be at least C-Rank, no maybe even B-Rank in Adventurer terms!" She said, slamming her fist against the desk to emphasize her point.

"Alright alright, Clara, calm down. You’re getting a bit too roudy here." The chief officer calmed her down, seeing how passionate the young adventurer was about the incident that had transpired.

"My bad," Clara apologized, clutching her face in her hands as she proceeded to continue. "When I eventually returned with some of the guards, all of the bandits were already taken care of." She said, looking up at the Chief’s stern eyes with a grim expression.

"The scene was brutal and disgusting, several bandits had their bones broken, limbs were cut, slashes upon slashes stained their bodies! They were brutally mutilated!" She said, shaking her head as she wanted to get the disgusting image out of her head, her hand coming up to wrap around her mouth as she prevented herself from puking.

’.....’ The chief thought for a moment, recalling her story. Clara was an experienced adventurer, while she may not have been the best, she was capable in her own right as she regularly dispatched monsters that were patrolling too close to the Royal Capital’s gates.

The monsters were not weak either, as most of the monsters that were found in the area were D-Rank and some even being extremely dangerous, hovering around B-Rank in terms of threat level.

The chief sighed, shaking his head. He had heard word of Clara passing out from sheer shock at the disgusting sight of the bandits being so terribly wounded, apparently it was so bad that even someone who hunted monsters way more dangerous than mere bandits had passed out from sheer shock alone.

It was why the interrogation had to wait for quite some time until Clara finally got some of her wit back, and would inform them on the situation that had transpired that night.

"However, even with all that carnage, I was surprised to hear that most of them were alive." She said, looking up at the ceiling as she spoke, a lighter tone accompanying her voice. "While a few have died from blood loss and other devastating injuries, I don’t think a gang war was responsible for something like that.

"Bandits are way too cruel, they wouldn’t allow their victims a chance at life."

"So who could you suspect were behind this?" The chief asked, as he took notes of her words and wrote them down on a notepad, the news about a large criminal gang had already spread throughout the city, and he needed to find a lead on this case.

Clara shrugged, leaning back into her chair as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I dunno, you tell me." She replied modestly.

"I’m not really sure, but from what I can put together, whoever was behind this wasn’t exactly a criminal per se." She said, "No one would be foolish enough to leave the evidence of their crime lying around freely like that, unless their someone powerful that’s directly challenging the police force of the Royal Capital." Clara spoke.

"Just a hunch, but our culprit could be an ad-!"

The door to the room suddenly opened, interrupting the interrogation as both Clara and the officer’s heads snapped toward the intrusion immediately, a female officer standing in the doorway.

"Apologies for the intrusion sir," The woman said, bowing her head slightly. "But we’ve got a visitor that wants your attention."

"Tsk," The officer clicked his tongue in annoyance, he didn’t really care about whoever was here to see him, as he was busy with something very important at the moment.

"Tell them to come back later, I’m very busy right now."

"But sir..." The woman spoke, glancing out into the hallway for a second before returning her gaze back to the officer.

"The person that wants to see you is...Rowan Lionheart of the Lionheart family.." She gulped after muttering the name, the air immediately turning charged with tension as the officer stood up from his chair immediately.

’The Lionheart family!?’ He thought in surprise, as he wasn’t expecting such a powerful noble family’s son to have made their way into their Prison Unit. He immediately felt a burning hot weight of shame and embarrassment land on his shoulders, as he started to feel stupid for not offering his services immediately.

"Tell them I’ll be right there!" The chief commanded, the young woman nodding as she left the interrogation room and made her way down the hall to inform the nobleman.

Clara who was just about to reveal her hunches and conspiracies about the mysterious attack was surprised to see the chief officer leaving already, feeling insulted at how quickly he disregarded their interrogation as if the case suddenly didn’t matter to him anymore.

"Wait, you’re leaving already!? What about the psychopath behind all of this? I thought you wanted to catch them as soon as possible!" Clara asked, feeling a wave of frustration and annoyance hit her as she was forced to be here, and now all of a sudden now that she wanted to comply, they dismiss her so easily.

"That investigation can wait, do you not realize who had graced us?" The chief officer asked, adjusting his attire as he clicked his tongue in annoyance.

"It’s rude to keep someone of such importance waiting, do you know the complaints we’d be receiving if word got out? I could lose my position! Heck, the entire damn Unit could be lost if we mess around with such powerhouses!"

Just as Clara was about to snap back, the chief officer was already out of the room, walking down the halls with a dire need of urgency carrying his step. Clara sighed in disappointment, shaking her head as she grabbed her essentials and made her way out of the interrogation room.

’Tsk, freaking jerks, dragging me in here and dismissing me so early, just when I was being so damn cooperative.’ She thought.

’That’s the last time I’m ever doing anything for these guys.’

Outside of the interrogation room, two figures were waiting politely behind the counter of the main register. The whole room was ablaze with tension, as all eyes of the guards present were eyeing the two figures who drew all the attention to them.

Rowan Lionheart, and his humble butler.

"Ah-! Apologies for the delay, sir!" The chief officer’s voice sounded, drawing their attention as they turned to look at the chief officer approaching.

"I was busy at the time, and I couldn’t make it to you immediately." He said, bowing gracefully in front of the nobleman.

He lifted his head, a nervous smile on his lips as he felt the overwhelming power of the being in front of him.

Being in close proximity with a being of his power was frightening, for even he, who was the chief of the Eastern Unit, and an Elite A-Rank in terms of power, felt like an ant in the presence of someone like him.

Rowan let out a kind smile, though there was no real warmth behind it. He leaned in close, his breath hot against the chief officer’s ear, a shiver running down the poor man’s spine.

"Tell me, in what cell is a man named Jack being held in?" He asked, his voice turning into a threatening tone as he whispered.

’J-Jack?’ The officer thought in surprise.

’How does he know the criminal’s identity?’
