Chapter 1399: The Truth
Mu Yan stared at her phone, reading word by word, her expression gradually turning cold.
After an unknown amount of time, she swiped her fingers and deleted the message.
Casually walking to the bedside table, she picked up the script and sat on the sofa, flipping through it.
She stared at the script for quite a while, but Mu Yan found she hadn’t read a single word, her eyes stuck on the first page.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
She picked it up and saw it was Kong Lizhen calling.
She answered immediately, "Godmother, is there something you need?"
"What does Jiang Jingheng mean by this, how dare he treat you like this!" Kong Lizhen’s voice was full of anger.
Mu Yan knew Doctor Ouyang had told Kong Lizhen about the test result, she said, "Godmother, it’s not what you think."
"He’s bullying you like this, and you’re still speaking up for him? Yanyan, I know you like him and don’t want to think badly of him, but sometimes the truth is cruel, and you need to learn to bear it, not avoid it." Kong Lizhen spoke earnestly.
Mu Yan paused for a moment and said, "Godmother, I’m not avoiding it. You don’t understand the relationship between him and me. Anyone in the world could hurt me, but not him. I can’t question his feelings for me just because of a contraceptive pill."
"But I can’t just stand by and watch you be deceived by him, Yanyan, I’m really afraid you’ll get hurt."
"Godmother, it’s not as serious as you think, I’m clear about it in my heart. Don’t go looking for Jing Heng because of this; I’ll handle it myself."
Kong Lizhen was silent for a while and said, "Are you home now?"
"Yes, I’m reading the script. There’s an audition in a few days. I haven’t acted in a while, I’m a bit nervous," Mu Yan laughed.
"It’s okay, don’t be nervous. You’ll definitely do great." Kong Lizhen suddenly sighed in relief, "I was worried you wouldn’t move forward, but now seeing you living normally, I can rest assured."
"I know what I should do," Mu Yan said.
She wasn’t one to wallow in self-pity. Mu Chen’s death indeed dealt her a big blow, but life must go on, right?
Time moves forward, she can’t continue to let people around her worry about her like before.
After hanging up the phone, Mu Yan settled down and started reading the script.
At Shengyuan Group, the meeting room door suddenly opened, Jiang Jingheng was the first to walk out, heading towards the elevator.
Following him, Jiang Wenhui and others also came out.
"Wenhui, you’re becoming more and more like your grandfather, decisive in action, iron-handed. With talents like you at Shengyuan Group, we board members can be at ease." A board member said to Jiang Wenhui.
Jiang Wenhui quickly replied, "Uncle Zhou, you’re exaggerating. I’m just doing my job, not worthy of your praise."
"Look at Wenhui, so capable and yet humble, truly deserving of being the Jiang family’s eldest daughter." Director Zhou said to those beside him.
One person responded, "It’s a pity she’s a daughter. Otherwise, how could all of Jiang Family’s possessions fall to an illegitimate son to inherit?"
Mu Yan heard this and laughed, "Actually, Jing Heng is excellent too. In the past two years, he’s led the group forward, achieving impressive results."
"I think if it were you in charge, you might do even better. You know how stubborn your brother is, always acting alone, never listening to us board members, unlike Wenhui, who always considers our interests."
"Without you uncles, the group wouldn’t be where it is today. It’s what I should be doing," Jiang Wenhui said with a smile.
These words brought satisfaction to the board members’ eyes.
Someone asked, "By the way, how’s Yu Tai? Jing Heng was too ruthless, Yu Tai is no match for him, really suffered this time."
