Chapter 106: Raiden's problem
Even though Sion was already strong, he was still lacking in pure mental fortitude.
Just looking at the monster rex through the screen made him feel a chilling dread creeping up from the bottom of his heart.
If he were to stand before udaeus in person, even though the monster rex was no match for him.
Sion would still need a little time to adjust before he could overcome its oppressive presence.
Fortunately, he could now experience this terrifying pressure safely through a screen, allowing him to get used to it in advance and eventually overcome it.
The main reason Sion felt confident that he could adapt in a short period of time was because his mind training spell and continuous exploration of his own soul had given him a highly sound mind and an unbreakable will.
"Inazuma shines eternal!"
Raiden raised her sword.
Countless bolts of pure lightning sparked into existence, transforming into deadly lightning needles that rushed straight toward udaeus.
Terrifying thunder roared continuously, exploding loudly in the cold air.
The deafening sound of her attacks continued relentlessly until the ground was covered in shattered bones.
"It blocked most of the impact," Sion noted.
Raiden stepped forward and swung her sword in a brutal slash.
The crescent shaped blade of light collided directly with udaeus's raised arm and its reinforced bones produced a crisp cracking sound.
"Futile."
Countless arcs of purple lightning crackled as Raiden flickered through the air, swinging her sword at an incredibly fast speed.
The dazzling strikes, moving much faster than the naked eye could follow, left deep gouges across udaeus's bones almost suppressing the boss to its limits.
A tremendous roar resounded through the room, and countless massive bone pillars violently erupted from the ground to attack Raiden.
After easily crushing the incoming bone spikes, Raiden finally took a step back.
It wasn't that she had been repelled by the attack.
Sion had simply decided to give the opponent some time to react.
Otherwise, the battle would've ended in an absolute instant.
"Did it draw its sword?"
Raiden stared at the strange phenomenon on the ground, where a pitch black sword hilt slowly emerged from the shadows.
Udaeus's other hand, which hadn't been shattered yet, tightly gripped the hilt of the massive sword.
The act of drawing the blade stirred up a violent gust of wind.
It raised the massive black sword high into the air.
Its eerie crimson eyes seemed to glow even brighter before it suddenly slashed down with everything it had.
The straightforward, heavy slash crashed into the ground, unleashing a terrifying shockwave of oppressive force that surged directly toward Raiden.
"Raw power... how boring."
Raiden raised her blade and violent lightning crackled fiercely around it, creating a deafening explosion.
"Torn to oblivion."
The incoming shockwave generated by raw physical force was crushed and her conceptual attack landed perfectly on udaeus.
"Now that you have drawn your sword, you're useless to me."
The devastating lightning bolt sliced cleanly across udaeus's chest, splitting the massive skeleton in two along with its bones and its magic stone.
Stepping forward over the crumbling remains, Raiden absorbed udaeus's magic stone and then placed her hand on the fallen sword.
"Absorb mind."
Using his absorption spell to convert the physical weapon into pure mind energy,
Sion carefully used it.
The massive black sword shrank considerably and condensed into a small sphere.
Once it was fully converted into soul matter and stored away, Raiden ignored the rest of the debris.
Sion hadn't quite figured out how to properly use these rare monster drop items yet.
Although the sword was considered precious to other adventurers, it was just an ordinary material to him.
What really mattered to Sion was mastering his own magic sword forging.
Having effortlessly dealt with udaeus, Raiden obviously intended to continue heading further down into the labyrinth.
Although it seemed like a considerable amount of time had passed, Sion had eaten a full meal and rested for a while before entering the dungeon.
Yet Raiden had already defeated three separate monster rex variants in a single trip.
In other words, the entire series of boss battles had taken less than half an hour.
"It's a pity that once I create the other puppets, the optimal conditions for upgrading their levels probably won't be available so quickly," Sion muttered, sounding slightly disappointed.
Goliath's respawn timer took two entire weeks, while udaeus required three full months.
Compared to ordinary monsters, the magic stones provided by a monster rex were obviously far more potent.
Happily spending the rest of the day with Meteria, another peaceful afternoon quickly passed by.
That night, Raiden finally returned home.
Sion stared intently at the expressionless Raiden standing quietly before him and fell into deep thought.
"Level 7, is this her current limit?"
The level 7 that Sion mentioned wasn't a definition of her overall potential threat but rather the internal measurement of her magic stone energy reserves and the overall density of her body made out of soul matter.
These formed the basic foundational data for his puppet.
It wasn't that a body made out of soul matter was unable to be strengthened any further.
Rather, the required energy supply to push past that barrier was massive.
Attempting to force an upgrade with insufficient resources would limit her future performance.
Generally speaking, ordinary monsters could become irregulars simply by actively absorbing magic stones from their own kind.
However, monsters also faced strict level restrictions.
Even if they consumed an absurd amount of matching magic stones, few monsters could ever increase their potential threat rating by two whole levels.
Irregulars born from regular monsters rarely escalated their core threat level.
They just became much trickier and far more difficult to deal with than their standard counterparts.
This was because a monster's potential was strictly limited.
That was their upper ceiling.
Compared to humans, monsters were bound by a much stricter, unbreakable hierarchy.
The exact same logic applied to magic stones.
After Raiden finally reached her current limit, Sion also realized exactly what she was lacking.
It wasn't simply a matter of restructuring the magic stones nor was it just increasing the overall mass of her body made out of soul matter.
Rather, it was something far more fundamental.
