Danmachi: The Magic Grandmaster

Chapter 105: Udaeus

Raiden arrived on floor 37.

The monsters were of a much higher level and the quality of their magic stones was far superior to those found on the upper and middle floors.

More importantly, this was a monster rex chamber.

The monster rex on floor 17 had a potential threat equal to a level 4.

The amphisbaena, which operated between floor 25 and floor 27 had a baseline threat equal to a level 5.

Floor 37 was no smaller than the entire city of Orario and its master was udaeus, a monster rex capable of beating level 6.

"The environment has also become much darker," Sion muttered.

He noticed that the surrounding area was incredibly dim but fortunately he was operating from a third person perspective and could fight by relying on his sensing.

"Have they arrived?" With a swift movement dof her blade, Raiden killed several skull sheep.

A skull sheep was a type of bipedal monster with a sheep skull for a head and a body composed entirely of raw bone.

An ordinary adventurer would likely be ambushed with ease in such a dimly lit environment.

The dark atmosphere and the complex labyrinth structure all tested adventurer's mental resilience.

Even through the perspective of his spell, Sion could still feel the atmosphere.

He couldn't help but recall the tense feeling of running through maps when playing Silent Hill F in his past life.

Floor 37 was the area known as the white palace which was roughly the same size as Orario.

The white palace was surrounded by massive circular walls that could be described as fortress ramparts creating a total of five separate layers.

In addition to the regular routes, there were many unexplored areas on this floor that had never been mapped.

Uncharted territory lacked any guiding maps, and the labyrinth structure was so complex that once a person lost their way they might never find their way back out.

The proper route led from the outside of the fifth circular wall all the way into the inside of the first circular wall.

Because the area was far too vast and the monsters were ridiculously strong, an expedition required a team of at least level 5 adventurers to safely reach this floor.

Even then if they lost their way, they might never be able to return to the surface.

"I could map out this floor and give it to the guild to enhance my reputation."

That was something for him to consider after he officially became an adventurer in the future.

In fact, it wasn't just about building reputation.

Exploring the unknown territories and compiling them into a map was considered a massive achievement.

The more people who used Sion's detailed map and benefited from it, the more high quality excelia he would accumulate.

Sion's current growth was sufficient to ensure that even without any rare growth skill, he could quickly tap into his potential once he received a falna.

The combined high quality excelia from these kinds of things would be more than enough to eliminate any level physical limit.

"Is it in that direction?" Raiden looked toward the boss room then moved forward.

The monster rex of floor 37 was slightly different from the other rexes.

Udaeus was a colossal skeleton but only its upper body was visible.

That wasn't entirely accurate, it would be better to say that its lower body was buried directly into the ground.

Its head was shaped like a massive sheep skull, making it the undeniable king of the skull sheep.

Although its movements appeared slow at first glance, its raw power and immense size meant its actual attack speed was anything but slow.

Udaeus had its signature attack.

That was summoning pillars.

These towering pillars would violently erupt from the ground to impale unaware adventurers.

Even large raiding parties couldn't defeat this stationary monster rex in one fell swoop and that terrifying AOE attack was the exact reason why.

In addition, anyone who challenged udaeus alone and pushed the monster to its limits would force udaeus to draw its sword.

There was a certain chance that the sword would drop as a special drop item after defeating the it under those strict conditions.

This was something that Ais would discover in the future during her battle with udaeus.

The reason why no one had discovered this secret over the course of a thousand years was because few people could ever meet its conditions.

Alfia could certainly achieve it.

But Because the difference in their strength was so massive, she would never push it to its limits.

Someone whose strength was slightly inferior might be able to fight udaeus but they would never survive long enough to push it into its final phase.

"I wonder if udaeus will draw its sword against Raiden," Sion muttered.
