Danmachi: The Magic Grandmaster

Chapter 104: Monster Rex Amphisbaena

"Roar!"

The monster resting in the middle of the huge lake roared.

Standing over twenty meters tall, its massive body covered in chalky scales exuded a terrifying presence.

Its thick neck forked and extended from its main body, with the front ends bearing the unmistakable features of a dragon.

The twin necks were covered in dragon scales, each one thick enough to be described as a plate of hard armor.

The left head had purple eyes and the right head had crimson eyes.

The left head of the amphisbaena spewed a terrifying breath from its jaws, and flames burned the air as they hurtled toward her.

"Too slow."

The amphisbaena boasted a potential threat equal to a level 5 adventurer.

Even though its body was several times the size of a standard monster rex, its immense physical power allowed it to move with extreme speed.

Though, that was far inferior to the speed of lightning.

Raiden vanished from her spot.

In less than the blink of an eye, Raiden was hovering right in front of it.

"Thunder."

The blade cut cleanly through the left head with a cross shaped attack.

Amidst its agonizing screams, the flames exploded violently within its own mouth.

She raised her blade again, and violent lightning swept across the area.

At that exact moment, the amphisbaena stopped rolling around in pain and a red fog was forcefully exhaled from its right head.

"A powerless move."

As her voice faded, lightning struck down once more.

The red fog had no effect on the attack whatsoever.

As if all of its strength had been completely drained away, the massive head fell into the water.

"As expected, elements also have strict hierarchies," Sion murmured.

The amphisbaena was a fearsome monster rex. Its left head could spew out flames that burned with extreme heat.

Even if a level 6 adventurer took a direct hit from that breath, they would most likely be reduced to ashes.

The right head could exhale a red fog, a dangerous ability that caused any magic that came into contact with it to completely unravel.

It was essentially a powerful form of nullification.

...

Raiden didn't know any high tier swordsmanship.

Since Sion was controlling her, she only knew the basics and relied on achieving miracles through overwhelming brute force.

Raiden herself was composed entirely of lightning, and only with Sion's precise mind control could such a terrifying lightning strike be formed.

That attack easily bypassed the amphisbaena's anti magic attack which meant that Raiden's lightning was fundamentally far more powerful than the monster and its attacks.

This wasn't just a difference in the overall quality and raw power of the lightning but a much deeper conceptual gap.

Raiden's lightning wasn't quite at the arcanum level but it was still vastly different from ordinary elemental lightning.

"Thinking about it carefully, if Raiden had full energy and true self awareness, could she be considered an existence somewhere between a human and a god?" Sion speculated.

Humans were humans and gods were gods.

Humanity could never be elevated to true godhood.

But Sion thought it wasn't like that.

He speculated that the power gap between humans and gods was simply far too great even for a level 10 adventurer, meaning there had to be some kind of transitional gap between them.

"I should improve her body and fill her reserves with magic stones." Sion thought for a moment, then controlled Raiden to pick up the magic stone.

With a spark of lightning, the magic stone shattered and Raiden used absorption spell to consume the energy.

The magic stone absorbed into her body was then used to actively improve her body alongside her internal mind.

"She is still within the level 4 range..."

The process consumed an absurd amount of magic stones and only the dungeon could provide them in such massive quantities.

Lightning arced wildly through the sky, and Raiden hovered about five meters above the ground.

"Shine down."

A magic circle extended from beneath her feet and then she condensed a terrifying amount of lightning in her hand.

The immense power was continuously compressed.

The vast amount of energy that her puppet body could exert exceeded what Sion could safely handle.
