Knotting His Rejected Breeder

Chapter 244: A Promise Worth Fighting For (Part 1)

SONIA’S POV

One month later...

The rain had stopped just before sunrise, a cool breeze swept across the hill as dozens of wolves stood in silence, all dressed in black. Their heads were lowered, their expressions solemn as they gathered before the newly built memorial.

Four stone monuments stood side by side.

One for the warriors who had given their lives protecting Bloodmoon.

One for Moon. One for Daniel. And the last, For Alpha Fenris of Silverpaw.

Ivy and Blane slowly put down their flowers on the grave of Moon and also Daniel, ivy could no longer bear the silence and the fact that Moon is no more.

I felt heavy in my heart, knowing fully well how close moon and ivy became. And also Blane and Daniel.

"See you in another Moonpact life-After, and I hope next time we’ll be brothers not friends."

I adjusted the black veil covering my face and stepped forward with a bouquet of white lilies clutched against my chest.

The earth beneath his grave was still fresh.

I knelt slowly, placed the flowers before the headstone, and closed my eyes.

"May the Moon Goddess forgive the man you couldn’t forgive yourself for becoming."

The words came out in a whisper.

For several moments, I simply stayed there. The wind brushed against my cheeks, carrying memories I wished would leave me alone.

My father laughing as he taught me to ride my first horse. His large hand resting on my head whenever I won a training match.

The stories he used to tell me before Mother died.

Back then...He had smiled. He had laughed. He had loved us.

Somewhere along the way, hatred consumed him until it became impossible to separate the Alpha from the father.

A tear slipped beneath my veil.

"I forgive you," I whispered. "I only wish you had chosen your family before revenge."

Silence answered me.

Then footsteps approached from behind.

I didn’t have to turn around. I already knew who they were.

Cade stopped beside me first.

A moment later, Seth, Jed, Wolf and the others joined us.

No one spoke.

For the first time in years, there were no arguments between brothers.

No competition. No anger, Only grief.

Cade placed a hand gently on my shoulder. "He wasn’t always the man he became."

"I know."

"I still remember when he used to sneak sweets into Mother’s room because she wasn’t supposed to have sugar."

A small laugh escaped me through my tears.

"I remember."

Seth smiled sadly. "He used to carry all of us on his back at once."

Wolf folded his arms, staring at the grave. "He was a terrible father near the end."

No one argued.

"...But he wasn’t always terrible."

The admission hung in the air.

Jed wiped at his eyes before anyone could notice.

"We’ll remember both versions of him."

I looked at my brothers. For so long we had allowed one man to divide us.

Now we stood together. Not because he deserved it. But because we refused to let hatred become our inheritance.

Cade stepped closer and rested a single white rose on the grave.

"Rest now, Father."

"We’ll do better."

One by one, each of my brothers laid flowers beside mine.

When Wolf’s turn came, he hesitated. He stared at the headstone for what felt like forever.

Finally, he sighed. "You made my life miserable."

I almost smiled. "But... you’re still my old man."

He placed his flower down.

"I hope wherever you are... Mother finally beats some sense into you."

A few soft chuckles rippled through those standing nearby.

Even through the sadness...It felt good to laugh again.

The memorial ended just before noon.

Warriors from Bloodmoon, Silverpaw, Stormridge, MoonRay, Ironfang and Moonfire slowly dispersed across the castle grounds.

Some returned home.

Others remained to help rebuild what the war had destroyed.

Bloodmoon had changed. Children played in the courtyards again.

The training grounds echoed with swords instead of screams.

Hope had returned.

I made my way toward the medical hall carrying fresh healing tonics.

Although Carl insisted I should still be resting because of my pregnancy, sitting idle had never suited me.

Besides...Healing people reminded me that life always found a way to continue.

Inside the hall, Ivy was arguing with Daisy over herbs.

"You added too much moonleaf."

"I did not."

"You absolutely did."

"It says two leaves."

"It says two pinches."

Daisy frowned before looking down at the recipe. "...Oh."

Tyler laughed quietly behind her.

"I told you."

"You could’ve told me sooner."

"I value my life."

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing.

Ivy looked over.

"There she is."

She walked over and hugged me carefully.

"How are you feeling today?"

"Better."

"And the baby?"

As if answering for me, a tiny kick fluttered beneath my palm.

I smiled.

"He disagrees with sitting still."

"Definitely Ramon’s son," Ivy teased.

Before I could answer, the doors opened.

Cade walked in with Seth, Jed , the triplets and Wolf, All three greeted everyone politely before Wolf immediately reached for a basket of fruit sitting on the table.

Tyler slapped his hand away. "Those are for the patients."

"I am emotionally wounded."

"You’ll survive."

Wolf grabbed an apple anyway. "I’ve survived worse."

Seth ignored him and turned toward me. "Sonia..."

I looked up.

"There was something we wanted to ask."

"What is it?"

He exchanged a glance with Wolf.

Then his expression grew serious.

"It... it’s about Lorena."

The room became quiet. Even Ivy stopped sorting herbs.

I slowly set the bottle in my hands onto the table.

"What about her?"

Seth folded his arms. "I’ve been meaning to ask since the war ended."

His eyes shifted toward Wolf. "What exactly happened that day?"

Wolf stopped chewing. Everyone stared at him.

He swallowed the bite of apple. "...Why is everyone looking at me like that?"

"Because," Ivy said flatly, "you’ve avoided this question for an entire month."

Wolf rubbed the back of his neck. "I already told you."

"No," Seth replied calmly.

"You told us she wasn’t our problem anymore."

He stepped closer. "I want to know what you actually did."

Wolf let out a long sigh. "I knew this day would come..."
