Knotting His Rejected Breeder

Chapter 243: The Weight Of Guilt

For one terrifying second, the room became completely silent.

Then the healer moved. "His pulse is dropping."

Sonia’s heart slammed against her ribs. She grabbed Ramon’s hand.

"Ramon?"

His eyes remained closed. His body lay motionless beneath the blankets, his skin pale from the blood he had lost.

The healer pressed his fingers against Ramon’s neck. "We need to stabilize him."

"Do something."

"We are trying."

"Then try harder!" Sonia’s voice broke.

Carl, Bloodmoon healer looked at her. "Sonia, your powers are suppressed right now. You are pregnant, injured, and exhausted. If you try to heal him, you could harm yourself and the child."

Sonia looked down at her stomach. Then back at Ramon. She knew he was right.

Her healing abilities had been unstable since she became pregnant. Her body and her wolf had been using most of its strength to protect the life growing inside her. Every time she had tried to use her powers, they had weakened before she could do anything meaningful.

But Ramon was dying. She couldn’t sit there and watch him disappear.

"No," she whispered.

Carl frowned. Sonia released Ramon’s hand and stood. Her knees almost gave out. She grabbed the edge of the table to steady herself.

"What are you doing?"

Sonia looked toward her small bag she carried and dropped in the corner. Her mother’s book was inside.

She had carried it with her to the battlefield. The old leather cover was worn from use, and the edges of the pages had turned yellow with age.

Sonia walked toward it. Her fingers trembled as she pulled it from the bag.

She had read the book countless times. Her mother had written everything she knew about healing inside it and also letter of love.

The techniques. The herbs. The connection between a wolf and its human.

Sonia flipped through the pages quickly. Her eyes moved over the familiar words.

Then she stopped. One passage caught her attention.

When the body refuses to heal, do not force the wound closed. Find the source of the resistance. The wolf knows what the human body cannot say.

Sonia’s breath caught, and she read the next line.

Healing is not always about giving strength. Sometimes, it is about creating a path for the strength already inside the body.

She looked toward Ramon. The silver had poisoned his blood. His wolf was trying to heal him, but the silver was preventing it.

Maybe she didn’t need to heal his entire body. Maybe she only needed to help his wolf fight.

Sonia closed the book. "I need to try."

Carl stepped toward her. "Sonia, listen to me. You are too weak."

"I know."

"You could collapse."

"I know."

"You could harm the baby."

Sonia placed one hand over her stomach.

Her voice trembled. "I know." She looked at Ramon. "But if I do nothing, he dies."

The healer said nothing, not Carl nor his assistants.

Sonia walked back to the bed. She sat beside Ramon and placed one hand over his chest.

At first, she felt nothing. Only the warmth of his skin. Then she closed her eyes. She reached deeper.

Her power answered. Weakly. Like a small flame struggling against the wind.

Sonia gasped.

The healer immediately stepped forward.

"Sonia."

She didn’t respond. She focused on Ramon. She felt his body. The damaged muscles. The torn flesh. The blood moving sluggishly through his veins.

And beneath everything else...Something else.

A presence. Faint. Wounded. Angry.

Sonia’s breath caught.

Ramon’s wolf. It was curled deep inside him, fighting. She could feel its pain. The silver burned through it.

Sonia’s own arm began to tremble.

"I’m here," she whispered.

The wolf moved. Sonia felt it. A low growl passed through her mind.

Her eyes filled with tears. "You have to fight."

The silver pushed back. Pain shot through her arm. Sonia cried out.

The healer reached for her. "Stop!"

"No!" She held on. "Ramon, listen to me."

Her voice broke. "You promised me."

The wolf growled again. The heartbeat beneath her hand suddenly became stronger.

Thump.

Sonia froze. Then another.

Thump.

Her eyes widened. She could hear it. Ramon’s heartbeat, it sounds Weak, but there.

She pressed her hand harder against his chest. "That’s it."

The healer stared at the monitor. "His pulse is increasing."

Sonia barely heard him. She could feel Ramon’s wolf now. It was no longer curled into itself. It was standing.

Wounded, bleeding, but standing.

Sonia pushed her healing through the connection.

The silver burned, her body shook. The pain travelled from her hand up her arm and into her chest.

She almost pulled away. Then Ramon’s wolf growled again.

Sonia’s tears fell. "Don’t you dare give up."

The heartbeat grew stronger.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Ramon’s chest suddenly rose.

He gasped.

Sonia’s eyes flew open. "Ramon!"

His eyes remained closed, but he was breathing.

The healer rushed forward and checked his pulse. "His heart rate is stabilizing."

Sonia stared at him. The wolf was still there. She could feel it. It was no longer fading. She pulled her hand away.

The moment she did, the room spun.

The healer caught her before she fell. "Sonia!"

She blinked rapidly. "Ramon?"

"He’s breathing." She looked toward the bed.

His chest rose again. Then again.

A broken laugh escaped her. "He’s alive."

The healer checked him once more. "He’s responding."

Sonia moved toward the bed. Then Ramon opened his eyes.

RAMON’S POV

The first thing I felt was pain.

It tore through my chest like fire, spreading into my ribs until every breath felt like broken glass.

I tried to move, but I couldn’t.

Then I heard her. "Ramon..."

The voice was soft and Shaking but also Desperate.

Sonia.

I forced my eyes open. The room blurred before slowly coming into focus. Lantern light flickered across the walls. The familiar scent of herbs and wood told me I was home.

Bloodmoon.

My gaze found her immediately.

She sat beside my bed, her face streaked with tears. Carl was gently wiping the blood from her nose while she refused to take her eyes off me.

Her hair was a mess. Her clothes were stained with blood. One hand rested protectively over the small swell of her stomach.

She looked exhausted, yet she was still here and Alive.

My throat tightened. "Sonia..."

The word barely left my lips.

She leaned closer, gripping my arm. "You’re awake."

A tear rolled down her cheek, but she didn’t wipe it away. Seeing her broke something inside me.

The months of pushing her away. The lies. The forged letter. The way I had made her believe I chose Lorena.

Our child...I almost lost both of them before I even knew they were mine.

"I’m sorry." My voice cracked. "I’m so... sorry."

The tears came before I could stop them. I hadn’t cried since I was a child. Not when my parents died. Not when I became Alpha.

But now I couldn’t hold them back.

"I hurt you. I failed you. I let hate blind me until I couldn’t see the truth standing in front of me."

Sonia swallowed hard. "You almost died," she whispered. "You fought my father for me. You took a silver blade because of me. And... I still don’t know if I can trust you again."

Her words hurt. They should.

"I know."

I squeezed her trembling fingers. "I don’t deserve your trust. But I’ll spend the rest of my life earning it... if you’ll let me."

Silence settled between us, it was heavy but yet painful and also hopeful.

Finally, she whispered, "I don’t know if I can forgive you yet."

"I know."

"But... I’m still here."

My heart clenched. "Thank you, for healing me, Sonia, for coming back,"

She searched my face for a long moment.

"Don’t die again, Ramon. Our child needs you." Her voice broke. "I need you too... even if I’m still angry."

"I won’t leave you."

She gave a tired smile and stood.

"Where are you going?"

"To tell everyone."

"Tell them what?"

Her smile grew through her tears.

"That my stubborn Alpha is finally awake."

She hurried toward the door.

"Sonia."

She turned.

I reached for her, forgetting the pain. Agony ripped through my ribs, forcing me back onto the bed.

She rushed over immediately. "Don’t move!"

Despite everything, I managed a weak smile. "I wasn’t."

"You were."

I caught her hand before she could pull away.

"Thank you."

She looked at me.

"For what?"

For refusing to let me die. For pulling me back from the darkness. For believing in me when I didn’t deserve it.

The words stayed trapped in my throat.

Instead, I whispered, "For coming back to me."

Her eyes softened.

She kissed my forehead gently. "Don’t make me regret it."

As she walked out, I watched the woman I loved disappear through the doorway.

It wasn’t forgiveness, but for the first time in a long time...it felt like the beginning of a second chance.

Sonia rushed into the corridor, and she started calling on them, Ivy, Blane, Daisy, Liam, Tyler and the others immediately turned toward her.

Ivy stepped forward. "What happened?"

I heared her say, then Sonia stopped in front of them. Her chest was rising and falling from running.

Then she smiled. "He’s awake."

For a moment, nobody moved.

Ivy stared at her. "Ramon?"

Sonia nodded. "He’s awake."

Ivy covered her mouth, a sob escaped her. Then she rushed past Sonia and ran toward my room.

Blane followed her. Daisy’s eyes filled with tears. Tyler and Liam released a long breath.

Sonia stood in the middle of the corridor.

Ramon was alive. He was still wounded. Still weak. Still fighting, but alive. And for now, that was enough.

I heared her thought through her wolf, for the first time since we met.
