DxD: The Holy Knight!

Chapter 130: Calm before the storm

The purple moon had hung in the sky of the underworld for countless years.

It matched what humans imagined of the underworld, a domain populated by legions of devils.

For the most part, this was the reality of the dimension.

The sole exception lay within the territories of the pureblood devil nobility.

Their lands presented an entirely different picture, filled with castles and modern estates that almost made people forget this was the underworld.

Among these noble houses, the Bael clan held an extraordinary position.

In terms of authority, they were second only to the Four Great Maou.

Their influence was vast.

Following the great war among the three factions, the private armies of the various pureblood houses suffered devastating losses, leaving them unable to maintain full legions.

The Bael clan, however had deep roots.

Even after that catastrophic conflict, their standing remained unshakable.

They were the only house that still maintained a standing legion.

With the introduction of the Evil Pieces and reincarnated devils, new blood poured into their ranks, restoring their military might to more than eighty percent of its prewar peak.

Renowned throughout the underworld and across the various pantheons, the Bael clan held territory perfectly suited to their prestige.

Situated at the northernmost edge of the underworld, their domain was so immense that it rivaled the size of the Japanese archipelago.

Within its borders lived devils who had served House Bael for generations.

Here, even decrees issued directly by the Four Great Maou carried little weight.

These subjects, who lived in the Bael lands from birth to death, answered only to the head of House Bael.

The Four Great Maou could do little about this reality.

The Bael clan was too deeply entrenched, having become just as vital to the underworld as the Maou themselves.

The Bael territory was filled with a rare festive atmosphere today.

Many heads of noble houses had arrived in person, bringing their chosen heirs along.

Today marked the grand wedding between Sairaorg and Sona.

It was an occasion none of the noble patriarchs could afford to miss.

Both were prominent rising stars, with Sairaorg widely regarded as the strongest among the underworld's younger gen.

Given his status as the heir to House Bael, his wedding naturally drew every noble family.

Sona was equally impossible to overlook.

Beyond being the heiress of the noble Sitri clan, she was the sister of Serafall Leviathan.

That relation elevated her standing considerably.

Serafall's doting affection for her sister was common knowledge across the underworld.

Offending Sona was far more dangerous than crossing Serafall directly.

While Serafall rarely acted like a ruler, no one doubted her strength.

She had personally eliminated numerous powerful figures from the Old Satan faction.

Serafall might laugh off a minor slight against herself due to her carefree nature but anyone who dared harm her sister would find no defenders in the underworld.

Even high ranking devils with immense influence would hesitate before facing the wrath of that devoted Satan.

Many devils across the underworld remained baffled by the sudden arrangement, unsure why they were marrying without prior notice.

Yet, subtle clues had existed.

Rumors had circulated that the Sitri heiress had fallen for a church knight during her stay in the human world.

This was arranged to settle the matter, putting an end to any unacceptable attachments while securing Sitri's standing.

Whether the rumor held truth was debated but after today, it would no longer matter.

Everything would be finalized.

Those who understood the situation believed that once Sona was brought back to the underworld, the outcome was sealed.

They found it impossible to imagine that Gabriel's student would dare breach the underworld to cause chaos before the assembled nobility, the Four Great Maou and an entire legion.

Whatever lingering concerns they had vanished the moment Sona returned.

Just as the devils raised their glasses in celebration, none suspected that near the borders of the underworld, the Burial Agency was already launching an assault.
