Chapter 131: Sona & Rias's conversation
The entire estate was bustling with guests all of them prominent figures from across the Underworld creating a lively and grand atmosphere.
Yet right beside the main hall where the wedding was to be held, an elegantly decorated luxurious villa sat in eerie silence, its mood completely out of place with the festive spirit outside.
Sona dressed in a pure white wedding gown, sat still while several maids carefully applied light makeup to her face.
However, her expression while still cool held a deep sense of hollow exhaustion.
Beneath the sleeves of her pure white dress, a faint magic circle marked her wrist.
It was this very seal that suppressed her power as a High class devil.
Ever since she was forcibly brought back to the Underworld, Sona had attempted to escape multiple times but every attempt ended in capture, prompting her family to place this sealing mark on her body.
In terms of both stamina and physical strength, she was now no different from an ordinary human.
In her current state, escaping the Underworld was impossible, she'd likely collapse from exhaustion before even crossing the edge of the territory.
A soft knock came at the door and Rias entered, dismissing the maids with a gentle wave of her hand.
Rias looked at Sona sitting quietly before the vanity mirror.
This was the first time she had ever seen her friend looking so helpless.
"Sona... you look truly beautiful today."
Seeing her best friend in such a state left Rias lost for words, and in her fluster, she blurted out praise she immediately regretted.
"Rias..." Sona offered a bitter smile. "I'd much rather wear this in Kuoh Town, right before Yasuhiro's eyes."
Rias sighed softly.
Sona had fallen so deeply, yet Rias had no right to comfort her.
Over the past few days, as her own mind settled, she had come to a startling realization.
Her own feelings had become inextricably tied to that Yasuhiro.
Ever since she was dragged back to the Underworld, her thoughts had constantly drifted toward him.
She didn't even know when he had stolen her heart.
She was in the same boat, after all.
Sona was not the only one longing to flee the Underworld, Rias wanted to escape just as desperately.
Once this political marriage concluded, her own engagement would be next.
Rias and her peerage had tried to break out as well but the outcome had been entirely predictable.
The identical sealing rune binding her wrist served as a constant reminder of that failure.
"Is there any news about Yasuhiro?"
Only at the mention of his name did a spark of life return to Sona's eyes.
Rias shook her head.
"After we were brought back, Yasuhiro vanished from Kuoh Town as well."
"Kuroka, Asia and Ophis are all missing too."
"The most probable outcome is that they returned to the Church in Europe."
"As you know, the informants that every faction planted to monitor the Church were recently rooted out, leaving no eyes behind."
"So, it remains just a theory."
Hearing that there was no news of him, Sona actually let out a quiet sigh of relief.
That was for the best.
Rias nodded in quiet agreement.
Both of them longed for him, yet both dreaded hearing any report of his whereabouts.
They knew his temperament all too well.
Because they understood him so deeply, they knew he would never simply turn a blind eye to this situation.
If he did, he would not be the man they fell for.
Their greatest fear was hearing that Yasuhiro had set foot in the Underworld.
Even with his Maou Class power, facing this gathering alone would be pure suicide.
Every head of the noble houses was present, alongside Four Great Maou.
The pinnacle of the Underworld's military might was gathered in one place, turning this territory into a lethal trap for any uninvited guest.
"Lady Gabriel must have taken him back to the Church."
Neither Sona nor Rias harbored any resentment toward Gabriel for not appearing when they crushed the feathers.
They had merely taken a desperate gamble back then.
Even if Gabriel had arrived in time, she might not have granted their plea as it reached far beyond what the Seraph had originally promised.
Both of them understood the delicate balance between Heaven and the Underworld far too well.
