Chapter 129: War
"Your Highness, it is just a trivial matter," Gabriel quickly said, terrified of letting someone as dangerously powerful as Ophis get involved.
Your Highness?
In his distress, Odsch frantically searched his memory for any god or ruler from the pantheons who resembled a young girl.
No matter how hard he thought, he could not recall any figure who took such a form.
"Mm."
Detached and indifferent by nature, Ophis would not have cared even if a full-scale war erupted, so long as it did not involve Yasuhiro.
Hearing Gabriel's response, she quietly stepped back into silence.
"Yasuhiro, what do you plan to do?"
Ophis's compliance brought a brief sigh of relief to Gabriel.
"March on the Underworld," Yasuhiro replied with calm certainty.
Gabriel had watched him grow from an ordinary human into the Saint Who Embraces Darkness whose name shook the entire supernatural world.
Backing down an insult had never been in his nature.
The legacy he inherited would never permit him to lower his head.
The Underworld had crossed a line, pushing his patience past its limit. Gabriel wished she could stop him but she lacked the power.
Even if the other three Seraphs joined her, none of them could sway his decision once his mind was set.
The best she could do was notify Heaven immediately so they could prepare for the impending fallout.
Cold sweat drenched Odsch's back.
The declaration of war rattled him to his core.
Would Heaven truly invade the Underworld over a single skirmish?
Compared to a war between entire dimension, the Sitri Clan's minor grievances meant nothing.
If Heaven attacked, it would become an existential crisis for all devils.
That was no exaggeration. Once a great war began, nobody could foresee how it would end.
After all, during the ancient war, both the God of the Bible and the Four Great Maou had fallen.
He tried to speak, hoping to defuse the situation but Yasuhiro had already grown tired of his presence.
An overwhelming pressure crashed down on him. His vision blurred, and the demonic power in his body felt like it was drowning in a bottomless ocean.
His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed unconscious to the floor.
Even as a Maou Class devil, he was not worthy of standing before Yasuhiro.
The gulf between a Super Devil and ordinary ranks was simply insurmountable.
"The most Heaven can do is grant you safe passage," Gabriel said firmly.
She could never allow Heaven itself to be dragged into this conflict.
If only the Saint Who Embraces Darkness marched, the situation might still be contained.
But if the angels of Heaven mobilized, another great war would be inevitable.
Neither Gabriel nor the other Seraphs would ever agree to that.
"I'll only bring my own forces."
With those words, Yasuhiro vanished from the council room alongside Ophis, leaving only Gabriel and the unconscious devil behind.
"I must inform Michael at once."
With a soft sigh, Gabriel gathered the fallen devil and vanished into thin air.
Far away from Japan, across the continent of Europe, creatures of darkness and stray devils lurking in the shadows watched in horror as the church mobilized on a massive scale.
They wondered if the Saint Who Embraces Darkness had decided their numbers were too great, gathering his legions to purge every dark being and restore Europe to the golden age of the church.
Not even the Pope held the authority to summon such a crusade, only the Saint had that power.
Soon, however, the terrified outcasts realized they were not the target.
Tens of thousands of church warriors gathered in the sky above Europe, their holy light illuminating the night like broad daylight.
Such an overwhelming force was far too massive to be meant for those beings.
It had to be the Burial Agency.
For the Saint to mobilize the Burial Agency openly meant something colossal was unfolding.
The gathered army soon departed the skies of Europe.
Only then did the dark beings finally dare to breathe.
The terrifying aura of the Burial Agency lingered in their minds, leaving behind a cold dread.
Even though they had witnessed a legendary force rarely mentioned in common intelligence reports, none dared to entertain any reckless thoughts.
The fear of the Saint Who Embraces Darkness had long been carved deep into their bones.
(A/N: Might as well use SED as Saint who embraces darkness)
