Chapter 239: Incoming Transmission

"Sorry, lady, but I’m not sure you’re in the right frame of mind..." Jacob almost chuckled as he replied to her, but her face was as straight as ever, almost twisting into confusion.

"I am very sane. Do not insinuate that I am not. I have simply told you the terms. You only have a few hours to think about it." She cut him off before he could finish his sentence, a single, soft finger placed on his lips. Admittedly, if it were a few months ago, he would have forgone every moral that he possessed and taken this beautiful goddess to bed, but Jacob had grown a lot since then.

First of all, women did not move him as much as they did before, having sampled many purely off of his good looks and inherent charm. Not even goddesses would be able to sway the boy once he had made a decision.

"I have thought about it. I refuse. I already have someone," Jacob said flatly, his voice like a calm wave lapping over the ocean bed.

The woman released his lips from captivity and retracted her hand suddenly. Then she chuckled lightly, as if she were amused.

"What’s funny?" Jacob inquired.

"Oh... nothing. That was the same thing Meslier said at first. You’ll come around, Jacob." Just as he thought she was done, she moved even closer, close enough that her lips were brushing against his ear and her large breasts were pressed against his chest. She whispered, "When I want something, I stop at nothing to get it."

She stayed there in that position for what seemed like five minutes, and then she moved back, smiling at him.

...

The portal door opened up almost immediately, and she stood up and left without so much as a word spoken to Jacob again.

The second he realized she was gone, Jacob let out an unrestrained sigh of relief and rubbed his chest lightly. This woman was not only a goddess of grief, but a master of seduction. He was weary already, thinking of what underhanded tactic she would employ next in her task to get him to sleep with her.

’These good looks feel like a curse sometimes.’ He smiled wryly as he thought. He would sleep for now, as he had other battles to worry about the next day.

<Would you like to accept?>

<Y/N>

’Ugh, can they just let a man sleep peacefully?’ He thought as he heaved a tired sigh.

"Accept."

...

"Jacob."

"Yes, sir. Regulator, sir." Jacob responded sarcastically, leaning back on his bed as a dark, almost shadowy figure appeared beside it.

"How is your journey in the tower so far?" The Regulator asked, his voice booming as though it were a surround-sound system, filling the entire room. "I see you have made significant progress in a very short amount of time."

"Why ask me a question you already know the answer to?"

"Because I want to know how you really feel inside. What your heart tells you, if this is truly what you desire. I can see everything, sure. I can also influence most things. But I cannot see, nor influence, the innate desires of my creations." The Regulator’s voice was deep but calm, as it always was.

"Well, I think I have everything required to clear the tower. But something about it feels off. Somehow." Jacob stared at the ceiling, as if to gather his thoughts, but he was in the right frame of mind.

"How do you mean?"

"I’m still observing. I’ll let you know when I find something significant." Jacob dismissed the question lackadaisically.

The Regulator chuckled slightly. "That’s fine. I’m sure you already know that the Demon King in your world is still not dead. And you know that he’s plotting."

"Well, you did not give me omniscience for no reason. I am aware, but he does not pose a significant threat right now. The second he does, I will eliminate him."

"Spoken well." The Regulator said with a hint of pride in his voice. Even though Jacob’s tone gave off a hint of annoyance and crankiness, the Regulator did not mind it because he knew the boy was spoiled and just wanted to sleep. "I just wanted to check on you, see how you are faring."

"Just say you miss me already."

"Wha—"

"Just say it."

"You do not know what you’re talking about, boy. You humans can be so infuriating." The Regulator said.

Jacob burst into laughter. "I’m just teasing you. I have a question, though." Jacob’s face turned serious. "My omniscience seems to have no effect in this world of the Tower of Sun, and it bothers me a lot. Also, tell me what you know about the Weeping Goddess, Elyssara."

"Well... the world—I would say—was designed that way. Only skills that gave warriors a physical edge are allowed to reign within this world. So it would make sense as to why your omniscience does not work, especially on the higher-order beings. But I’m sure it will work on your opponents." The Regulator said. Jacob nodded at his response. "To answer your second question, the Weeping Goddess is a constellation that has been alive for almost a million years. Some say she is a goddess, some say she is a succubus, depending on their encounters with her. She can be a real hindrance to you, especially now that she has presented you with an unreasonable deal."

"So what do I do about her?" Jacob inquired with a worried expression.

"I have watched her over the years. She might be a goddess, or constellation, but her morals are deep in the pit of hell. So are her antics. She would stop at nothing to get what she wants, and if she doesn’t get it, she is also willing to do anything to whoever says no to her." The Regulator paused, allowing his words to marinate before speaking again. "As I see it, you have two options. You either kill her, or just take the deal. Dueling her will be of no use. If you defeat her, she would only chase after you more fervently..."
