Chapter 291: Race Against Time
[Yes.] The antique mirror confirmed Bai Hanyun’s analysis, and then added: [Sincere.]
Bai Hanyun frowned slightly and asked, "Only sincere prayer can give you merit?"
The antique mirror replied once more: [Yes.]
Staring at the antique mirror, Bai Hanyun muttered, "This is a bit tricky. It’s easy to make people willingly pray, but it’s hard to earn their sincerity."
Letting out a heavy sigh, Bai Hanyun flicked the antique mirror’s frame lightly and added, "Since you saved me from the cliff, I will help you this time."
Yawning, she placed the antique mirror on the inner side of the bed and sleepily said, "But for now, I need to sleep first."
With that, Bai Hanyun lay on the bed. The second her head touched the bamboo pillow, she drifted into dreamless sleep.
Outside the tent, Feng Xiyan overheard her conversation with the antique mirror.
Looking up at the clear night sky covered with stars after the rain, he thought, ’I wonder who she was talking to just now? Is that person also someone from Heaven?’
While Feng Xiyan was speculating about Bai Hanyun’s mysterious companion, far away in another world, Bao Shengjie was running for his life.
"He is there!" shouted one of the pursuers.
As his words echoed through the silent surroundings, the others rushed in the direction he pointed.
At the same time, Bao Shengjie cursed under his breath and quickly dashed into the bushes beside the highway.
Branches and weeds scratched his body as he ran, but Bao Shengjie didn’t slow down, focusing instead on the tablet in his hand.
After typing as fast as he could, he finally hit the Enter button and prayed, ’Please receive the signal!’
Clinging to this hope, he rushed into the mountain forest without hesitation.
At that moment, Wu Jun’s smartwatch suddenly beeped.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
A bad feeling rose in his heart when he heard the emergency notification sounds. He hurriedly pulled out his tablet from his backpack and opened the tracking application. The second it loaded, an emergency signal flashed repeatedly on the screen.
Wu Jun’s eyes narrowed. Without wasting a second, he began searching for the signal’s location.
Noticing his grim expression, Hua Yuyu asked in a low voice, "Something happened?"
"Mhm. Shengjie just sent an emergency signal. I’m searching for his location now," Wu Jun answered as his fingers flew across the keyboard.
At his words, Hua Yuyu’s expression darkened. Staring at the screen, he asked, "How long will it take to pinpoint his location?"
"A few more seconds." As soon as Wu Jun spoke, he pressed the enter key, and a map appeared on the screen.
Looking at the blinking red dot, Wu Jun said, "His last location was on the Shang Du Airport highway."
Seeing that the dot wasn’t moving, he added, "Shengjie must be in trouble. Captain, what are your orders?"
Hua Yuyu’s mind raced at his question. After a moment of thought, he glanced at the others and ordered, "Kaimu, Kaiye, Gao Gong—you three will come with me to search for Shengjie."
Wang Kaimu, Wang Kaiye, and Gao Gong nodded in agreement. "Yes, Captain."
Turning to Wu Jun, Hua Yuyu instructed, "Wu Jun, you and Xie Wei will be responsible for searching for Zhuangyu. Since Shengjie was forced to send an emergency signal, Zhuangyu and Miss Bai may also be in danger."
Wu Jun and Xie Wei responded in unison, "Yes, Captain."
After giving out orders, Hua Yuyu turned to the female member and said, "Return to headquarters and tell the others to stand by for further instructions."
"Yes, Captain." She accepted the order and quickly departed in disguise.
Once they gathered their things, Hua Yuyu said, "Let’s go."
With that, they split into two teams and left the Shang Du airport.
Half an hour later, Gao Gong slowed down the car and said, "Captain, the police are blocking the road ahead."
Hearing this, Hua Yuyu frowned. "Wait here."
He got out of the car and approached one of the police officers blocking the road.
Seeing him approach, the police officer quickly stopped him and said, "Sir, please follow the instructions and take another route."
Hua Yuyu glanced past the police officer and saw the broken railing, an overturned SUV, and traces of gunfire and explosions on the ground.
His heart sank at the sight. Clenching his fists, he looked at the police officer and calmly asked, "Sir, what happened here?"
Since they had blocked the road, countless drivers had already asked the same question.
Knowing that most road users would be curious about the closure, the police officer patiently explained to Hua Yuyu, "There was an accident an hour ago."
"To ensure the safety of other drivers, this section of the highway will remain blocked until we clear the debris. If you need to pass through, please follow the directions provided by our members."
After listening to the police officer’s explanation, Hua Yuyu frowned slightly and said, "Thank you, Sir."
Returning to the off-road car, he sat in the passenger seat and said, "Looks like this is where Shengjie fought those assassins. Since the police have blocked the way, we will have to take a detour."
Hearing this, Gao Gong nodded and started the engine.
As he drove off the highway, Wang Kaiye said, "Captain, Shengjie just sent us another emergency signal. It’s ten kilometers away from here."
The moment he said this, Hua Yuyu asked, "Where is it?"
Wang Kaiye showed the map to him and Gao Gong.
Seeing that the location wasn’t far, Hua Yuyu ordered, "Gao Gong, hurry up."
Without wasting a second, Gao Gong turned the steering wheel sharply and drove straight into the bushes. Their sudden maneuver shocked the drivers behind them.
"Are they crazy?!" one of the drivers shouted, craning his head out the window to take a closer look.
Looking toward the bushes, his friend, sitting on the back seat, muttered doubtfully, "Maybe there is a road there? Should we follow them?"
When the others heard this, the driver rolled his eyes and said, "You can go. I’m not taking that risk."
While the driver and his friends debated whether to wait for the police to clean the road or find an alternative route, Gao Gong sped through the mountain forest.
