Chapter 290: Bai Hanyun’s Short Story
Looking at Feng Xiyan’s worried expression and the generals’ curious faces, Bai Hanyun pondered where to start.
A few seconds later, she said, "To make a long story short, there is someone who wants to kill me. A few hours ago, he sent another group of assassins to kill me and my bodyguards."

Bai Hanyun nodded and calmly replied, "It’s my nominal father in name."

Hearing this, Bai Hanyun looked at him and replied, "He is not my biological father. He is my maternal grandfather’s adopted son."
"The reason he became my father is just because of something that happened in the past regarding my mother. When my grandfather found me years ago, he decided to list me as his adopted son’s daughter to protect me from malicious rumors outside."
"Unfortunately, my maternal grandfather failed to recognize a white-eyed wolf."
After saying that, Bai Hanyun noticed the others’ gloomy expressions.
Smiling at them, she added, "What’s with your expressions? I’m fine. I never regarded him and his family as my family, so whatever he did won’t hurt me. If there is any relationship between us, it’s a blood feud and revenge."
Seeing that she could still laugh heartily, Feng Xiyan said, "Xiyan believes that Fairy Bai can make her own decisions. However, if Fairy Bai ever needs our help, Xiyan wishes you would tell us. After everything you have done for us, Xiyan and everyone here want to do something in return for you."
Nodding at him, Bai Hanyun promised, "Alright. If I ever need your help, I will ask for it. At that time, I hope you won’t think that I’m troubling you."
"It would never happen," Feng Xiyan said firmly.
Just as he said that, Bai Hanyun yawned.
Looking at her tired and pale complexion, Feng Xiyan felt a pang of heartache. Turning to Tan Pengtai, he said, "General Tan, can you send over a new quilt?"
Tan Pengtai nodded. "Yes, Great General."
Pondering for a second, Tan Pengtai asked, "Great General, it would be inconvenient for Fairy Bai to stay in your tent. Should this subordinate prepare another tent for her?"
Feng Xiyan shook his head and replied, "No need. Our military rule can’t be broken, so Fairy Bai won’t live in barracks with us. Besides, it’s only a few sichen before dawn. This general will escort Fairy Bai to my mansion early in the morning."
"Then where will you sleep tonight?" Tan Pengtai asked again.
"This general will stand guard for Fairy Bai, so there is no need to prepare another tent. It’s not early anymore. All of you should return and get some rest. We will continue our discussion tomorrow," Feng Xiyan calmly ordered.
When the generals heard this, they were stunned.
As the supreme commander of the Feng Army and the sole remaining member of the Feng Clan, Feng Xiyan’s status was very noble. For him to willingly stand guard outside the tent to protect Bai Hanyun showed her importance to him.

After the generals left, Feng Xiyan stood up and said, "Fairy Bai, you can sleep here. Xiyan will stay outside. If you need anything, you can just call for Xiyan."
Before Bai Hanyun could refuse, he took his black sword from the weapon rack and left the tent.
Watching the tent flap fall behind him, Bai Hanyun smiled and walked to the inner room of the tent.
Seeing that her wet backpack was placed on the bedside table, Bai Hanyun picked it up. Opening it, she emptied the contents.
Looking at her wet phone, wallet, antique mirror, and snacks, she sighed and inspected her phone.
A moment later, Bai Hanyun let out a sigh of relief and muttered, "Fortunately, it’s not broken. I hope it can be turned on after it dries."
Putting her phone back on the bedside table, Bai Hanyun took the antique mirror and wiped it dry with a clean cloth.
When she was done, Bai Hanyun sat on the bed and asked, "Hey, are you still alive?"
She waited for a while before the antique mirror flashed very dimly once.
Looking at its weak, dim light, Bai Hanyun worriedly asked, "Hey, are you alright?"
The antique mirror dimly flashed once at her question. A few seconds later, a word appeared on its blurred surface.
[Empty.]
Not understanding its meaning, Bai Hanyun asked again, "What do you mean by empty?"
A few seconds later, the antique mirror flashed dimly once, and the word on its surface changed.
[Power.]
Rubbing her chin, Bai Hanyun thoughtfully asked, "You said that you need merit to survive. Is merit your power?"
The antique mirror flashed once, this time slightly brighter.
Seeing that the antique mirror looked excited at her analysis, Bai Hanyun knew she had guessed right and asked further, "How to refill your merit? Should I do some good deeds on your behalf?"
At her question, the antique mirror flashed again, and the word changed once more.
