Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 269: Ch 268: A Lost Goddess

"Goddess Aria, it is time for you to go back. The heavens have told me what is going on here, and I promise to take care of everything here for your sake. Now, you no longer have to worry."

The new god told Aria as he placed his hand on Aria’s shoulder. Due to his divinity, the god had his face hidden. But Kael still had a feeling that the face of that god looked familiar...

In fact, he bet he could see Leon’s face if he concentrated on the face in front of him.

The new god was benevolent, and he did not mock Goddess Aria for losing her domain. In fact, he looked sorry for her, and he even gave her a part of his divinity so that she had enough power to make the trip back home.

Aria noticed all of this, but she still could not accept the truth—that she had been abandoned not only by the heavens but also by her people.

"I don’t want to go back! Why do I need to go back when I care for everyone here so much? What would happen to them once I am gone? I-I..."

Aria tried to calm herself down, but she could not get herself under control. Her panic was causing her new powers to go out of control.

She had been able to suppress her panic and desires so far because people continuously drained her feelings and magic, but without them present, she felt unstable.

The older god in front of her sighed as he looked at the unstable goddess, and then he reached out to place a hand on her shoulder.

"Goddess Aria, I know that these are tough times. But you need to get yourself together. You are young, so you will likely get more opportunities to rule over another world. So for now, go back."

The god told Aria, and she nodded before she rushed back home. But she was not welcomed in heaven.

She could feel the scrutiny of the people judging her for being recalled back. No matter where she went, she felt like she could not raise her head.

Aria had heard the news of an ancient goddess who had been stripped of her power and banished a long time ago by heaven, and she suddenly felt like that jilted goddess.

But unlike the ancient goddess, Aria had no fight left in her, and she wanted to sleep until her existence faded.

/See! That child would have happily faded from existence. But then, a miracle happened. Just when she thought no one would ever pray to her, she heard that tiny whisper in her heart. One of her followers was still calling out to her./

The corruption whispered in Kael’s ear as he watched the events of the past unfold. It was interesting to see what was going on, but he still could not understand why the corruption had decided to show this to him.

But he figured he would find out the reason soon. After all, his instincts told him that the end was near, and soon he started to see the goddess’s true nature.

...

"Someone is praying to me. I am...still alive?"

A god’s fate was tied to two things—their divinity and their will to exist. The second part came from the heavens, and with the support of the progenitor, a god was allowed to exist.

But the first part was what all gods wanted—a follower who would keep believing in them and keep them alive.

Goddess Aria had thought she had lost the second part when she had been banished from her domain. But that was not true?

"Do I...still have someone left?"

She asked in a hesitant voice.

To her, it felt like she had returned to heaven yesterday. But for the world she left, it had likely been decades. There should have been no one who remembered her as a god now that the new one had taken over.

And yet, she could hear someone praying to her, and that made her want to look.

She closed her eyes and concentrated her powers on connecting with the person praying to her.

It was a man in his later years, and his face had turned pale. He looked fragile and as if he were on his last breath. But he still prayed to her.

"Goddess Aria, I still remember you, and I will still pray to you. Those other fools do not see just how benevolent you were toward us and how much you loved us, but I saw it all. And I promise you that I will never forget. Even if I die, I will come back and pray to you. So please, bless my soul."

That worship touched the goddess, and she could not help but reach out and give her only follower a fraction of her power.

The old worshipper, who felt that trace of power, let out a sigh before he showed even more devotion.

"Goddess, please hang in. This follower of yours...will be back..."

The old man said and then died. Aria could only watch in shock and horror as she lost her last follower. She was suddenly scared of what would happen to her now.

Was she...even a goddess now that she had no followers?

"No...no, this is not good! I cannot lose him as well! I—someone, please help me!"

She cried and heaved as she tried to keep herself under control. But her powers were trying to tear her apart.

Kael watched this from the sidelines, not sure what he should be feeling. But a part of him felt like he needed to help her out.

He unconsciously took a step forward, then another, and then another one until he reached the suffering goddess. And once he reached her, he noticed that he looked tiny compared to her massive body.

He ignored that size difference and reached out to lightly touch the goddess’s face, but his hand passed through her cheek as if it were not there.

It made Kael feel unsteady, and the corruption grabbed his wrist and pulled him back with a smile on its face.
