True Apocalypse Game

Chapter 403 - 378: This World’s Last Hope

Witch Tower’s emerald eyes were still filled with confusion. She was desperately searching for any trace of the Savior, so much so that she didn’t even notice the monster had opened its gaping, bloody maw.

Its dagger-like teeth were about to descend.

"BANG!"

With the sound of a gunshot, a crater was instantly blown into the monster’s head. Blood splattered everywhere as it lurched a step back.

Witch Tower was jolted awake by the gunshot, only then realizing she had just taken a stroll through the gates of hell.

But seeing the monster wounded, she instinctively reached out her hand, as if afraid it would be killed.

’What if... what if it really is the Savior? What if...’

"ROAR—" The wounded monster let out a furious bellow, turned away from Witch Tower, and lunged toward Shen Feng!

Its body seemed exceptionally tough. That last shot hadn’t even pierced its skull; it was merely a light wound!

Shen Feng remained expressionless, standing there like a statue. He continued to pull the trigger, steadily firing one bullet after another.

"BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG..." The automatic rifle spat flames as bullets, like heavy hammer blows, slammed viciously into the monster’s chest and head.

What was truly unbelievable was that despite being hit repeatedly, the monster just kept charging wildly at Shen Feng!

This scene left everyone around them staring in shock, scarcely able to believe their eyes.

They had witnessed the power of these guns firsthand; anyone pierced by a bullet had basically no chance of survival.

Yet this monster completely ignored the bullet impacts and just charged on. Was it made of iron or something?

Come to think of it, it really did seem to have crawled out from a metal plate earlier!

In the blink of an eye, the monster was just two or three meters from Shen Feng. Witch Tower finally snapped out of it and screamed, "Shen, look out!"

But Shen Feng didn’t even flinch. He kept pulling the trigger. "BANG! BANG!" The last two bullets pierced the monster’s eyes, shooting straight into its sockets. Its skull was seen to shudder violently.

THUD... THUD... The monster had reached Shen Feng, letting out a whimpering roar, but it could move no further. Its legs suddenly gave way, and it collapsed to its knees directly in front of him.

All six of its arms slumped to the ground, propping it up like tree branches. A thick torrent of blood poured from its now-empty eye sockets, forming a small pool on the floor.

It was even mixed with bits of grayish-white brain matter.

Only now did the crowd get a clear look. The barrage of gunfire had riddled the monster’s body like a sieve. One of the holes in its chest was large enough to see through.

Shen Feng slung the empty automatic rifle over his back before looking down at the six-armed monster kneeling before him.

’Just as I thought,’ he mused. ’Though it looks bizarre, it’s still just a creature of flesh and blood.’

After all, the beasts that had chased him and Witch Tower before were also life forms from the Quantum Force Field. They too were made of flesh and blood, not powerful beyond reason.

This six-armed monster was just like those other beasts—it had no consciousness of its own, existing as nothing more than a walking corpse.

Human consciousness and imagination could assemble new matter from the Quantum Force Field, but creating a sapient consciousness was a far more difficult task.

Seeing that their captain had shot the powerful six-armed monster dead, everyone present finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Shen Feng crouched down, gazing at the blood-soaked face of the now-dead six-armed monster, and fell into deep thought.

’Strange... The face actually bears a slight resemblance to mine.’

’The power of the Quantum Force Field is truly bizarre...’

Just then, Witch Tower also walked over to the six-armed monster. She crouched down and began to examine its body, muttering to herself:

"You’re not the Savior... you’re just a monster... a deformed monster... What went wrong? If a life form can be summoned, then the Savior must be able to return too! I’ll try a few more times. If once doesn’t work, I’ll try twice. If twice doesn’t work, I’ll try a hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times! One of those times has to bring the Savior back..."

As she spoke, she stood up, ready to return to the core of the Quantum Force Field and resume the conscious summoning.

Shen Feng reached out, grabbed Witch Tower’s slender wrist, and pulled her back. He frowned as he looked at the dazed expression in the young Minstrel’s eyes.

’She’s become obsessed.’

"This is useless," Shen Feng said, his voice slow and carrying a slightly hoarse magnetism. "The Quantum Force Field cannot create a life form with consciousness. It can only create matter with a simple structure. The domain of consciousness is too complex, exceeding the Quantum Force Field’s capabilities, and it would inevitably collapse upon observation. If the Salvation Army’s former Commander is still alive, he naturally cannot be summoned by you. If he’s dead, he cannot be created anew from the void."

"No! This... this is a kind of Magic called Science! Anything is possible! The Savior... this world needs the Savior! He is our last light, our final hope! Otherwise, we’ll just drown in the endless ocean, the distant light of civilization will be lost to the past, forever unable to..." Witch Tower’s voice trailed off as she struggled frantically against Shen Feng’s grip like a madwoman, trying to get back to the core of the Quantum Force Field.

Shen Feng’s hand held her fast like an iron vise. He sighed, then his expression turned solemn, and he spoke, enunciating each word carefully.

"The Savior is not a person; it’s a belief. Every Salvation Army Warrior is a Commander. Everyone who holds onto hope is a Savior! When you hold onto your faith, you are a Savior, and I am a Savior! Don’t lose your mind to despair and let the spirit of the Savior die out. Otherwise, how disappointed and heartbroken would that person be?"

His words were resolute and powerful. Moreover, Shen Feng had used his Silicon-Based Brain to emit thought waves, combining them with the Hypnosis in his voice. This finally managed to clear Witch Tower’s head a little, pulling her back from the brink of despair.

Turning to look at the determined face of the man before her and thinking about his words, Witch Tower understood that her previous expectations were nothing but an empty fantasy, with no possibility of coming true.

At this thought, a wave of sorrow washed over her. She couldn’t hold it in any longer. She threw her arms around Shen Feng and began to sob uncontrollably.

"Shen! I... I just wanted to see him... This world needs him... It’s been our only belief for so long... I... We miss him so much... Why... why... why..."

The calm and decisiveness that Witch Tower had always shown shattered completely in this moment. Now, she was just a little girl engulfed by despair and grief.

Nearby, the eyes of Old Bill and the other sailors had also turned red.

They too had understood the Minstrel’s plan and had been just as excited and filled with hope moments ago, but they never expected it to fail so easily.

"If... if the Savior were still here, how could humanity have fallen so low...? The legendary Savior... Will he really... ever come back?" Old Bill sighed and muttered.

Shen Feng looked at the crowd and sighed inwardly. He understood that the people of Water World were desperately in need of hope, even if it was just a sliver.

He then said slowly:

"Don’t worry. Whether the Savior can return or not, if we can get our hands on the core of this Quantum Force Field, humanity will have hope again! Help me blast this place open!"
