Chapter 404 - 379: The Collapsing Aircraft Carrier
Seeing Witch Tower’s helpless expression, Shen Feng considered telling everyone the truth: that he was the Savior Army Commander—albeit one from another world.
But the thought was fleeting; Shen Feng dismissed it almost immediately.
If he said something like that, no one here would believe him. They might not think he was a liar, but they’d definitely think he was a raving madman.
After all, in this world that had fallen into ruin, the surviving humans had deified this world’s Shen Feng, turning him into their last beacon of hope.
And while the current Shen Feng possessed many powerful abilities, he still seemed like an ordinary person. How could he possibly compare to the divine Savior that Witch Tower and the others revered?
Besides, Shen Feng didn’t particularly covet the title of "Savior." He could wait to reveal his identity until he had enough power to convince them.
Hearing Shen Feng’s words, Witch Tower, who had been on the brink of collapse, finally rallied. With a final sob, she wiped her tears on Shen Feng’s shirt and squeezed her eyes shut. When she opened them again, her gaze was once more filled with resolve.
She was a powerful warrior, after all. Her deep-seated convictions had simply overwhelmed her, causing her to lose control. Now, she was slowly regaining her composure.
"The core of the Quantum Force Field... is right under here? How do we blow it up?" Witch Tower asked Shen Feng. She had already walked over to the metal plate and was standing on it barefoot.
She was no longer trying to meditate and summon the Savior. Instead, she quickly composed herself, ready to help Shen Feng with his plan.
"A single grenade will be enough," Shen Feng said with a smile. He took one out and secured it to the metal plate, then attached a rope he’d found in the cabin. He led Witch Tower and the others away from the plate, retreating into a compartment in a corner.
He then ordered the blind Purifiers:
"My lost lambs, I want you to use the delusions in your hearts to turn that patch of ground into fragile paper!"
Hearing this, Eddy instantly understood Shen Feng’s intention. He froze for a moment, then gave a cold snort and muttered in a voice only Shen Feng could hear:
"Blasphemer, you want to blast open the Holy Sanctuary to find the core of the miracle? How laughable! How pathetic! You have no idea what you’re about to face! God is on this island! For the damage you inflict upon this island, you will face God’s wrath! You will—"
"Cut the crap. Get your blind little followers to do it," Shen Feng said impatiently, slapping Eddy on the back of the head.
Eddy stumbled and quickly shouted:
"By order of the Shouter for the Whispering God, the Holy Father! The area above the Holy Sanctuary is woven from light paper and feathers, soft as light and light as the wind!"
Under Eddy’s guidance, the group of blind Purifiers immediately began to concentrate, forming a thought collective to manipulate the power of the Quantum Force Field. They chanted in unison:
"The area above the Holy Sanctuary is woven from light paper and feathers, soft as light and light as the wind!"
Everyone else, including Witch Tower, closed their eyes. Only Shen Feng kept watching.
Before his eyes, the metal plate with the grenade on it transformed into a layer of woven paper and feathers, as if it had been that soft and pliable all along.
Shen Feng quickly shut his eyes and ducked behind cover. He, too, pictured the metal plate in his mind, then yanked the rope in his hand, activating the grenade.
A few seconds later, with a thunderous BOOM, the grenade detonated. Shen Feng immediately looked up. Where the solid metal plate had been, there was now a gaping hole large enough for several people to pass through.
The massive blast startled everyone into opening their eyes and looking toward the metal plate. The Purifiers were jolted out of their meditation.
The sudden appearance of so many observers caused the plate, which had just been paper and feathers, to collapse from its quantum state back to its original metallic form. Only now, it was a blasted-apart sheet of metal, its edges bent open and curling downward.
The Purifiers were too far away to be injured by the blast, but the tremendous noise left them dizzy and disoriented.
Shen Feng had no time to worry about them. He dashed out from behind cover, rushed to the edge of the opening, and peered down. Simultaneously, his Silicon-Based Brain released thought waves to probe the space below.
Looking down, he saw nothing but a pitch-black void, with smoke from the explosion still wafting up.
He could see the plate was nearly ten centimeters thick. If he hadn’t used the Quantum Force Field to temporarily alter its state, the explosives he had would never have been able to blast through it.
The smoke quickly dissipated, and the light from above faintly illuminated the scene within.
It was like a cavern below, roughly fifteen meters deep. He could faintly make out dark patches on the surrounding walls, which were covered in various kinds of slime.
An acrid, putrid smell wafted up.
’What in the world is this place?’
’Could it be a cavern beneath the island?’
Shen Feng peered closer and saw, at the very bottom of the cavern, a faint blue dot of light giving off a soft, steady glow.
According to the perception of his Thought Field, the core of the Quantum Force Field was very likely this tiny blue point of light!
’What in the world is it?’
RUMBLE... Just then, the ground shook violently, causing everyone to sway. It was followed by a series of continuous, lighter tremors from beneath their feet.
Everyone looked at each other in confusion. ’An earthquake?’
After seeing what was in the hole, a strange smile appeared on Eddy’s face. When he felt the tremor, he burst into manic laughter.
"Hahaha, Blasphemer! God is enraged! You will all be destroyed by God! God is enraged!"
At the same time, a groaning, creaking sound came from the surrounding metal walls. Steel beams from the ceiling began to fall, kicking up clouds of dust.
’Not good. The aircraft carrier wreck is collapsing!’
Shen Feng’s expression changed. "Everybody out!" he shouted to the others. "Get back to the ship!"
Then, his skin turned to stone as he leaped into the gaping hole, dropping straight to the bottom and heading for the blue point of light.
Seeing Shen Feng jump straight in, Witch Tower cried out in alarm.
"It’s dangerous! Get back up here!"
As she spoke, she grabbed a coil of rope from Old Bill, took one end, and threw it down into the hole.
Shen Feng had already landed at the bottom of the pit. The ground was slick and sticky, almost like a swamp, but thankfully, the footing beneath the slime was solid.
He looked down, snatched the blue point of light, and stuffed it into his pocket without a second glance. Reaching up, he grabbed the rope Witch Tower had thrown down and prepared to pull.
Just then, the cavern walls seemed to come alive, instantly pressing in on him. The pit, which had been several meters in diameter, narrowed until it was barely wide enough for a single person, trapping him firmly in the middle!
The force was immense. Shen Feng struggled once and immediately realized he was completely unable to break free.
Then, Shen Feng felt a rhythmic vibration coming from within the cavern walls.
THUMP... THUMP... THUMP... THUMP... THUMP...
His eyes flew wide. An almost impossible theory occurred to him, and his blood ran cold.
The ground around them shook more violently, and the aircraft carrier wreck began to collapse even faster.
"Shen!" Witch Tower screamed. She and the others pulled on the rope with all their might, but it wouldn’t budge.
"Get back to the ship! Leave this island now! Don’t worry about me!" Shen Feng yelled. "I can get out on my own! Go, now!"
The words were barely out of his mouth when a steel beam from above crashed down toward them.
