Chapter 210 - 209: Killing Zombies
Still, Zhang Aihua was one of the lucky ones; he had a superpower to protect his wife and children. The ones who were truly terrified were the people at the bottom of the cave.
They had been praying there wouldn’t be a true zombie outbreak. However, the zombies had now appeared on a massive scale.
Jiang Si rode Little Chun out to survey the situation, and an infected Vulture came flying right at them.
Qin Shen, riding Xiao Xia, waved his hand. Snowflakes instantly caked the Vulture’s wings, weighing them down. Unable to fly, it plummeted to the ground. The impact shook the snow loose, and it took to the air again, lunging for Jiang Si and Qin Shen.
This was exactly why Qin Shen had come out—to practice manipulating snow.
In an instant, the snowflakes condensed into an ice spike and shot into the Vulture’s head. It dropped from the sky, and this time, it didn’t get back up.
Human zombies were relatively few. The truly terrifying ones were the hamster-sized rats.
They were small and fast, able to squeeze through the tiniest of cracks.
Even when Qin Shen unleashed a barrage of Ice Spears, he couldn’t eliminate them all at once.
The biggest problem was their tiny heads. To kill a zombie for good, you had to destroy its brain.
Since they couldn’t eliminate them all, they had no choice but to call on Jiao Chunzi.
Jiao Chunzi, riding Xiaoqiu, flew into the airspace above the zombie-infested area.
Her power was only effective on zombies within a certain range, but she could control their movements and change their direction.
Zhang Aihua and his family stood at the window, watching through binoculars. Seeing the three people on the Vultures’ backs, they grew nervous, wondering what they were about to do.
Jiang Si said to Jiao Chunzi, "Don’t worry. I’m here. You just focus on controlling them."
With that, she placed her hand on the back of Jiao Chunzi’s. The steady flow of energy filled Jiao Chunzi with confidence.
Jiao Chunzi looked down, her expression suddenly sharpening. On the ground, the teeming mass of infected rats turned as one and scurried south.
Seeing her success, a smile spread across Jiao Chunzi’s face; she was finally able to help.
After driving off the rats, they circled the area in a several-mile radius. Any zombies they spotted were immediately controlled and driven away.
Whenever she was within a certain range, something like a psychic net would appear in her mind. After they completed a full circle, all the zombies within that several-mile area had been driven out.
’Looks like zombies aren’t so scary after all, as long as you’re strong enough.’ Jiang Si couldn’t help but feel a surge of happiness.
But her smile quickly vanished.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through Jiao Chunzi’s head, as if someone had stabbed her brain, and she felt as though all the blood was being drained from her body.
Even Jiang Si’s energy infusion couldn’t stop her suffering.
Jiao Chunzi nearly fell off Xiaoqiu. Jiang Si grabbed her, pulled her onto Little Chun, and they sped back to the cave hotel.
Forcing herself to stay conscious for a moment longer, Jiao Chunzi managed to stammer out, "He... they’re here..." before passing out completely.
Jiang Si’s brow furrowed. ’They’re here? Who are they?’
’To make Jiao Chunzi feel pain like that... could it be someone else who can control zombies? Someone who can even control her?’
Jiang Si couldn’t afford to be careless. She put Jiao Chunzi in a private room before heading out again with Qin Shen to investigate.
The moment they took to the air, they were surrounded by a swarm of creatures infected with the zombie virus.
They were clearly mindless, yet they seemed to have retained some intelligence, working together to prevent Qin Shen and Jiang Si from breaking through their encirclement.
This in itself was strange.
Even without the zombie virus, these were wild Vultures; they would never act with such coordination.
Jiang Si and Qin Shen exchanged a look, drew their guns, and began to fire, precisely covering one another.
BANG! BANG! BANG!—
The incessant gunfire drew in even more zombies.
Three of the zombies stood out. They were far more agile than the rest, and their expressions looked unnervingly human.
Jiang Si instantly suspected they were superpower users, with abilities far surpassing Jiao Chunzi’s.
’So that’s why Jiao Chunzi couldn’t control the zombies.’
Seeing Jiang Si and Qin Shen in the air, one of the three suddenly spoke. "We have no interest in biting people. Give us this territory, and we’ll keep the zombies away from you."
Such words were meaningless.
’Even if they don’t bite, they’re capable of other evil acts. If they didn’t have ulterior motives, why insist on this specific place when the world is so large?’
’If we hadn’t been able to kill that Vulture earlier, we’d already be dead.’
Jiang Si and Qin Shen exchanged a look, raised their sniper rifles at the trio, and opened fire.
The other zombies swarmed around the trio, shielding them and making it impossible to get a clear headshot. Jiang Si switched to grenades.
She threw them down one after another.
They hadn’t expected Jiang Si and Qin Shen to be so ruthless, going straight for the kill.
Cyrus immediately shouted, "You’ll regret this!"
Without hesitation, Jiang Si tossed another grenade at him.
BOOM—
The earth-shattering explosion made Brother Qiu and the others tremble in fear.
They were also incredibly grateful that Jiang Si’s group was out there holding the line; otherwise, they would have been finished.
Cyrus and his two companions could control zombies, but they were still afraid of getting their heads blown off.
If they didn’t die, they could potentially live for millennia, so they were exceptionally protective of their lives.
More and more zombies surged forward, rushing toward the territory behind Jiang Si and Qin Shen in an attempt to divert their attention.
Jiang Si and Qin Shen were indeed distracted, but they had set up multiple defensive barriers. It wouldn’t be easy for these zombies to break through.
’If we don’t take down these three special zombies, they’ll be an endless source of trouble.’
Jiang Si pulled a Beast Cage directly from her storage space. With a WHOOSH, it descended like a divine treasure from an immortal, landing right on top of Cyrus and his two companions.
The cage was made of the toughest steel. They couldn’t break it open and could only cling to the bars, howling in rage.
With the other zombies unable to get in to shield them, an opening appeared above their heads.
Seeing that Jiang Si was about to drop another bomb and blow them to smithereens, Cyrus pleaded with genuine desperation, "We can really help guard this place for you! We promise, we’ll be as loyal as dogs! Spare us!"
The words had barely left his mouth when a zombie Vulture swooped in from behind, attempting a sneak attack on Jiang Si and Qin Shen.
Qin Shen had already sensed it. He fired an Ice Spear, and the Vulture dropped from the sky.
Seeing their last hope extinguished, Cyrus started to spout more nonsense, but Jiang Si just gave a cold laugh as the grenade slipped from her hand.
CLANG—
The grenade fell through a gap in the cage. With a massive BANG, Cyrus and his companions were blown to bits.
Their heads weren’t completely destroyed and were already trying to reform.
Qin Shen raised his sniper rifle and fired three quick shots. Each one was a perfect hit, finishing them off for good.
Although the trio was dead, the zombies they had been controlling were now running wild, continuing their surge toward Hot Spring Bay.
Jiang Si wondered if the trio had dropped any energy stones, but the ground below was a teeming mass of zombies.
For every wave she blew up, another would rush to take its place.
Jiang Si decided to have Qin Shen act as a decoy to divert the zombies’ attention while she jumped down to search the remains.
A moment later, amidst the scattered remains of the zombies, she spotted three faintly glowing energy stones. They were even larger than the ones they had found before.
