Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 238: You Know Nothing About My Superpower

The moment the car door opened, sand and wind blasted inside.

Hector Grant and the others already had their faces covered in blood. Now, that blood was caked with sand and dirt, their clothes no different, making them look utterly wretched.

Hector Grant staggered to the vehicle’s entrance and was helped out of the car.

He refused any further assistance, slowly straightening his body on his own. "Get everyone out. Carry them to the second floor first."

The injured were carried out one by one.

Although most were unconscious, a careful inspection confirmed that their lives were not in danger.

This made Hector Grant breathe a sigh of relief.

’As long as their lives aren’t in danger, it’s fine!’

With Nathan Thorne around, getting injured wasn’t a major issue.

The group arrived on the second floor.

They happened to run right into Sierra Sullivan and the others, who were about to head downstairs.

Seeing Hector Grant’s blood-streaked face, Sierra Sullivan froze on the spot, momentarily at a loss for words.

’What in the world happened?’

The few of them hadn’t gone to see Hector Grant off.

But just a moment ago, they had suddenly heard a loud CRASH, and the house itself had shaken.

Sierra had assumed another Aberrant Beast had been swept in by the sandstorm and crashed into the house, so she was planning to go down and check on the situation.

She never expected that as soon as she reached the door and opened it, she would be met with the sight of such a disheveled Hector Grant.

And behind him, his even more wretched-looking men.

"What happened?" Sierra Sullivan asked with a frown.

Hector Grant shook his head. "I’ll explain in a bit. Let’s get inside first. Where’s Nathan Thorne?"

"Right here!"

Nathan Thorne walked right up to Hector Grant’s side. Looking at the blood-covered and extremely weak Hector, he tsked twice.

"Captain Grant, it hasn’t even been that long. How did you end up in such a sorry state? Lucky for you, you’ve got me! What would you do otherwise?"

As he spoke, Nathan Thorne was about to start healing Hector Grant.

But in the next moment, Hector refused.

Hector Grant looked at his men behind him, his eyes filled with guilt. "I’m fine. Treat them first!"

Nathan Thorne looked at Hector Grant, speechless. "I know what you’re thinking. You’re just worried my Superpower isn’t enough to heal all of you, so you want me to treat them first and put yourself last, right?"

Hector Grant didn’t feel awkward at all about having his thoughts voiced by Nathan.

"Since you know what I’m thinking, stop wasting time with words and go treat them!"

But Nathan Thorne didn’t move. "Captain Grant, we’ve known each other for so many days, and you really haven’t tried to understand me at all! I already told you my Superpower leveled up, didn’t I? You’re really underestimating my promotion. Forget twenty of you. Even if there were another twenty, it would be a piece of cake for me, so there’s no need for you to be so self-sacrificing. Just stand still and let me heal you. Don’t waste any more time."

Before Hector Grant could say anything, Nathan had already begun.

Hector Grant only felt a pleasant warmth on his head, and the injured areas began to itch slightly.

He knew it was the wounds healing rapidly.

Before Hector could even properly register the sensation, Nathan Thorne had already withdrawn his hand.

"All done!"

This time, Hector Grant was genuinely surprised. "All done?"

’That fast?’

Nathan Thorne snorted. "I told you, you don’t understand me! If you hadn’t wasted that time just now, I’d have already healed several people by now."

With that, Nathan beckoned to the men behind Hector. "Lay them down side by side. I’ll start now."

Nathan Thorne left with the injured.

Watching his retreating figure, Hector Grant finally realized he had indeed underestimated Nathan Thorne.

’It seems leveling up a Healing Ability causes a qualitative change.’

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce walked over to Hector Grant.

Jayce looked at Hector’s face, covered in blood and sand, and frowned, directly using his Superpower to clean him up.

Only when Hector’s face was clean again did Jayce nod in satisfaction. "That’s much easier on the eyes. Now, tell us what happened."

Hector Grant’s brow furrowed. "It’s not that I don’t want to tell you. It’s that I don’t know either."

"What do you mean?" Sierra pressed.

Frowning, Hector Grant thought back carefully for a moment before saying, "Just now, our vehicle had only gone a few meters when several huge Aberrant Beasts suddenly appeared. I’ve never seen that kind of Aberrant Beast before. I didn’t even get a good look at them before they flipped our car over. Then we crashed into the house, and after that, we were rescued. The rest you already know."

Hearing Hector’s account, Sierra Sullivan’s brows knitted together as well.

"Based on what you’re saying, those Aberrant Beasts should be just a few meters outside the house. Since they attacked your vehicle, will they come and attack the house next?"

"I—"

Before Hector Grant could finish, the house shook violently.

Sierra Sullivan was speechless.

’I was just voicing my worries and speculations. How did I end up jinxing us?’

’This is too ridiculous!’

The shaking of the house continued.

Debris was already starting to fall from the ceiling.

Although the house had been reinforced by a Gold Ability User, it wouldn’t be able to hold out for long if the attacks didn’t stop.

If the house collapsed, they would be buried inside.

Even if they survived, without a house to shelter them from the wind, they would very likely be swept away by the sandstorm.

No matter how you looked at it, it was a fatal outcome.

The only way to resolve this was to stop the Aberrant Beasts outside from continuing their assault.

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce looked at each other and immediately prepared to go outside.

"Nathan Thorne, take care of Candice Tate!" Sierra called out as a reminder.

Candice Tate watched Sierra with a nervous expression. Although she really wanted to follow them outside, she knew this wasn’t the time to be willful. She just stood obediently in place. "Sierra, you have to come back!"

Sierra Sullivan smiled at Candice Tate. "Don’t worry, Candice. I’ll be back in a little while!"

Hector Grant also gathered his men and followed Sierra and Jayce downstairs.

With everyone’s lives on the line, no one would back down at a time like this.

Arriving on the first floor, Sierra could faintly make out a colossal Aberrant Beast standing outside the house through her protective goggles.

The Aberrant Beast was so immense that she could only see its lower half, and even that was just a blurry outline.

Even without a clear view, she knew in her heart that this Aberrant Beast must have an incredibly tough hide.

Dealing with such a creature would be no easy task.

Sierra’s heart sank.

But this was no time for contemplation or hesitation.

With no other choice, even knowing how difficult the battle would be, they could only face the challenge head-on.

Otherwise, all they could do was wait for death.

’We can’t just wait to die. We have to at least put up a fight!’

"Everyone, be careful! Use the most powerful attacks you’ve got. Don’t hesitate for a second. We won’t get many chances!"
