Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 239: All Superpower Users Are Comrades-in-Arms

No one had any objections to what Hector Grant said.

Even if he hadn’t said a thing, they already understood.

Their chances weren’t just slim; they were incredibly slim.

In fact, if their first strike failed to injure the massive Aberrant Beast, they would only succeed in enraging it.

And then, they would be in grave danger.

The more clearly they understood the stakes, the more nervous they became as the moment to act drew near.

But not acting wasn’t an option, either.

Even if they did nothing, it wouldn’t be long before the house was destroyed. They would still face certain death, robbed of even the chance to fight back.

In a life-or-death situation, no one would be foolish enough to harbor selfish thoughts, much less hold anything back.

A good number of them cast grateful glances toward Hector Grant.

Previously, Hector Grant had used a reward system to motivate them to train their Superpowers.

Everyone present had seen their Superpowers improve, more or less.

They didn’t know how much of a difference it would make, but it was certainly better than no improvement at all!

They didn’t waste much time and were soon ready.

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce stood at the very front, their eyes locked on the Aberrant Beast before them.

At Hector Grant’s command, a barrage of Superpowers, like a brilliant display of fireworks, blasted straight toward the Aberrant Beast.

Simultaneously, Sierra Sullivan sent sand hurtling toward the Aberrant Beast’s eyes.

Whether human or beast, eyes were always a vulnerable point.

Even if its eyes weren’t a fatal weakness, just distracting it would create an opening for Jayce and the others.

And it happened just as Sierra had thought.

As her Superpower obscured its vision, the Aberrant Beast’s movements grew sluggish, its reactions slowing.

This was the time to press the attack.

The massive Water Arrow Jayce had formed was already poised behind the curtain of sand, ready to strike.

As Sierra let the sand disperse, the Water Arrow shot toward the Aberrant Beast’s eyes at a speed nearly invisible to the naked eye.

The Aberrant Beast’s vision had just cleared, but its brain hadn’t yet processed what was happening.

Seeing something approach, it didn’t dodge. Instead, it widened its eyes, as if trying to get a clearer look at what was coming.

And in that instant, two Water Arrows plunged straight into the Aberrant Beast’s eyes, piercing deep into its brain.

The Aberrant Beast shrieked in agony, its body convulsing violently.

The others’ Superpowers, like another round of fireworks, detonated all over the Aberrant Beast’s body.

The beast’s agonized roars were so immense they drowned out even the sound of the howling wind.

No one knew if the Aberrant Beast would die just like that.

But their Superpowers weren’t depleted, so nearly everyone attacked again without hesitation.

It was just as Hector Grant had said: seize the opportunity, with no hesitation and nothing held back.

They absolutely would not stop until the Aberrant Beast lay motionless on the ground, or until their Superpowers were completely exhausted.

The same was true for Sierra Sullivan and Jayce.

The two coordinated, attacking what they believed to be the Aberrant Beast’s weak points.

In just a matter of moments, several more Water Arrows had pierced the Aberrant Beast’s body.

The once-ferocious Aberrant Beast staggered and collapsed to the ground.

It still made noises and its body twitched occasionally, but anyone could see that the Aberrant Beast had lost all ability to fight.

Its death was only a matter of time.

Jayce didn’t have the patience to wait for it to die.

He conjured a massive blade that fell from above, slicing off the Aberrant Beast’s head.

With its head severed from its body, the Aberrant Beast was well and truly dead.

Seeing this, many of them breathed a collective sigh of relief.

They had been holding their breath, hearts pounding, their entire bodies strung tight.

They had been terrified, but there had been no time to feel the fear.

But now, as the tension broke, the strength seemed to drain from their bodies. Many of them collapsed right onto the ground, panting heavily.

Even without looking, Sierra could guess that their backs were soaked with sweat.

It was understandable.

It wasn’t just them; she wasn’t in much better shape herself.

Hector Grant proved himself a true leader. Even as a great many others collapsed around him, he remained standing ramrod straight, his posture perfect, his gaze resolute.

He walked over to Jayce, and together they moved forward, pried open the Aberrant Beast’s head, and began searching for the Crystal Core inside.

The moment they saw the two of them step forward, the others knew what they were planning to do.

Even those who had felt utterly drained found a new spark of energy. They all looked on with curiosity.

They had never seen an Aberrant Beast this large!

They wondered about the beast’s level, and what its Crystal Core would look like.

They didn’t have to wait long.

Soon, the Crystal Core was found. Jayce even washed it clean.

The Crystal Core was transparent and irregularly shaped, about the size of a baby’s fist.

Seeing the Crystal Core, Sierra was momentarily stunned.

’This doesn’t look like a Crystal Core at all.’

’It’s more like a giant diamond.’

Even without sunlight, it seemed to emit its own dazzling light—so brilliant one couldn’t look away, yet so intense one didn’t dare to stare directly at it.

Hector Grant didn’t need to ask to know what everyone was thinking.

Everyone had contributed; who wouldn’t want a piece of that Crystal Core?

But there was only one, and though large, it couldn’t simply be smashed and divided equally.

Hector Grant scanned the crowd and raised his voice. "Let’s head upstairs before we discuss this!"

This really wasn’t the place for a discussion.

In that short time, everyone had recovered enough to get up from the ground and follow the others upstairs.

Sierra had barely stepped onto the second floor when Candice Tate charged over like a little cannonball, hugging her legs and gazing up at her.

"Sierra."

Candice Tate’s eyes were red.

"Sierra! I missed you so much!"

’Crying just because we were apart for a little while?’

Sierra stroked Candice’s head. She knew the girl hadn’t just missed her; she had been worried.

"I missed you too, Candice!" Sierra said, pulling the girl into a hug. "See? I’m back safe and sound now, right? So don’t cry! It’s not a good look when your face gets all messy!"

Candice shook her head. "I don’t want to be pretty, I just want you!"

The longer they spent together, the more deeply Candice grew to depend on her.

Sierra didn’t see it as a problem, nor did she try to force Candice to change.

"Sierra, did you guys win? Were you the most amazing one?" Candice asked, her eyes shining like stars as she gazed up at Sierra.

Sierra smiled and shook her head. "Everyone was amazing! Candice, you have to remember this: when we’re facing Aberrant Beasts and zombies, all of us survivors are comrades fighting side-by-side. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to one another."
