The Viltrumite Across the Worlds

Chapter 272: So This Is Real Celestial Magic?!

Once the dust had settled, the Fairy Tail members who had fled back to their guild finally remembered something important.

Just how powerful was Jovian if he could single-handedly destroy Phantom Lord and hang a member of the Ten Wizard Saints from a wall?

The realization sent a chill through everyone.

"Hahaha!"

"When Jovian gets back, I'm definitely challenging him!"

"This is getting exciting! That guy has become insanely strong!"

Natsu's eyes burned with fighting spirit. If he defeated Jovian, wouldn't that prove he possessed the strength of a Wizard Saint? No, it would prove that he had surpassed the average member of the Ten Wizard Saints.

"Natsu, I strongly suggest that you calm down."

"Jovian is a genuine monster now."

"Based on strength alone, I think he's already surpassed Laxus. He might even be comparable to Gildarts."

Gray still felt uneasy when he remembered the terrified and desperate expression on Jose Porla's face. Phantom Lord's master was supposedly as powerful as Makarov, yet he had clearly been crushed in a completely one-sided battle.

As far as Gray knew, Gildarts was the only person who should have been capable of beating someone as powerful as Jose that badly.

"Gildarts?"

Lucy had heard that name more than once, but she was still confused.

The guild members occasionally talked about Gildarts, but Lucy had never met him. She had never even seen him featured in a magazine.

"That's right, Gildarts, the strongest mage in Fairy Tail."

Mirajane walked over to Lucy with a smile and answered her question.

"The strongest mage in Fairy Tail?"

"Is he even stronger than Erza?"

Lucy stared at her in surprise. As far as she was concerned, Erza was already absurdly powerful.

"I wouldn't dare compare myself to Gildarts."

Erza smiled and shook her head.

"You know about our guild's S-Class mages, don't you, Lucy?"

"We currently have five active S-Class mages."

"Other than Gildarts, every S-Class mage in the guild, whether it's the mysterious Mystogan, the short-tempered Laxus, or even Erza, can only be considered a candidate for the title of strongest."

"Gildarts is the one who truly holds that title. His strength is almost ridiculous. Even if Gray and Natsu fought him together, they probably wouldn't last a single exchange."

Mirajane explained Gildarts's position within the guild.

"He's that strong?"

Lucy's eyes widened.

"Mirajane is still being modest. To be more precise, adding me to their side wouldn't make any difference. Even if our entire team attacked Gildarts together, the outcome would remain the same."

"We're simply not on the same level."

Erza corrected Mirajane.

Several years ago, before Gildarts had left the guild to undertake the 100 Years Quest, Erza had asked Makarov how powerful he truly was.

She still remembered Makarov's answer.

Even among the Ten Wizard Saints, Gildarts would rank near the top.

She could only wonder how powerful he had become since then.

"He's so strong that Erza, Natsu, and Gray wouldn't stand a chance against him even if they fought together? So that's the power of Fairy Tail's strongest mage?"

Lucy could barely contain her excitement.

She loved hearing stories and rumors about Fairy Tail's strongest mages.

"Still, I'm no longer sure whether Gildarts can be called Fairy Tail's strongest mage."

"Jovian's current strength feels completely beyond our reach."

Mirajane had once been an active S-Class mage, so she had enough experience to make a reasonable judgment.

Based on her understanding of her own strength and Erza's, even the two of them working together would probably lose to Jovian.

No, even if Natsu, Gray, and the others joined them, they would still lose.

"He's really that powerful?"

Lucy still found it difficult to believe.

She had only followed the others because she knew they were going to fight. By the time she arrived, every enemy had already been defeated, so she had not witnessed Jovian's strength firsthand.

"That naked man pinned to the roof was supposedly just as powerful as our master."

Mirajane leaned closer and whispered into Lucy's ear.

"What?"

"Then doesn't that mean..."

"Jovian has already surpassed the master?"

Lucy stared at her in shock.

"Barring something unexpected, yes."

Mirajane nodded.

Meanwhile, the entire continent was in an uproar.

Boom!

A bolt of lightning descended from the sky and completely demolished one of Phantom Lord's branch guilds.

The man wearing headphones, who had effortlessly crushed everyone inside, looked at the newspaper in his hand and grinned.

"Hahaha! Jovian did a good job!"

"That's how Fairy Tail mages should act! We have to destroy every last piece of garbage before they learn not to look down on Fairy Tail!"

"As for the weaklings in our guild, just wait. Sooner or later, I'll blast every last one of you worthless losers out of Fairy Tail!"

The man was Makarov's grandson, Laxus Dreyar.

He enthusiastically manipulated lightning as he traveled across the Kingdom of Fiore, destroying every Phantom Lord branch he encountered.

Phantom Lord had attacked Fairy Tail first, which meant they had declared war.

There was no reason for any of their branch guilds to continue existing.

They could all disappear.

Elsewhere, Mystogan silently studied the newspaper in his hands, his face hidden beneath his scarf.

The flags of several Phantom Lord branches lay around him.

"So Jovian has taken action again?"

"What a monster..."

"But since the battle is already over, inform the Magic Council that Jovian cannot be touched under any circumstances."

The King of Fiore frowned as he studied the newspaper. He looked somewhat younger than before.

He still remembered Jovian's terrifying and almost unbelievable combat power, which had allowed him to easily repel an invasion by a neighboring kingdom.

The king understood that the Kingdom of Fiore had to protect someone that powerful.

A warrior like Jovian was one of the foundations upon which the kingdom's security depended.

In the end, a combination of various political factors caused the Magic Council to handle the matter rather lightly.

They summoned Makarov, fined him, forced him to submit a written apology, and spent a long time yelling at him.

With that, the conflict between the Kingdom of Fiore's two strongest guilds officially came to an end.

Somehow, Makarov became the only person who truly suffered from the entire affair.

"It seems I need to move forward with my plan as soon as possible."

"Let Etherion descend upon this world."

Among the many councilors, a blue-haired man with a tattoo on his face smiled as he made his decision.

Several days later, Lucy received tickets to Akane Resort from Leo, the Celestial Spirit with whom she had recently formed a contract.

Along with those tickets came the beginning of a vast conspiracy.

Lucy invited Natsu, Gray, and Erza. She also worked up the courage to invite Jovian.

"Excuse me, would you be interested in..."

Lucy's voice trembled.

She was a grateful person and knew that Jovian had helped her many times. She wanted to repay him in whatever small way she could.

"I don't have time."

Before Lucy could finish, Jovian drained the drink on the table, stood up, and left to take another job.

"Hahaha!"

"He rejected you!"

"Lucy's such a loser!"

Happy laughed mercilessly at her failure.

"Shut up, you stupid cat!"

Lucy's face turned bright red as she swung her fist at him.

Happy flapped his wings and easily evaded her attack, making Lucy even angrier.

"Don't take it personally, Lucy. Jovian is a workaholic. Even when he worked in logistics, I almost never saw him take a day off."

Erza gently tried to console her.

"Please don't comfort me. You're only making me feel like an even bigger failure."

Lucy waved her off. She was already painfully aware that her invitation had failed.

Since Jovian had refused and Mirajane was too busy to accompany them, Lucy, Gray, Natsu, Erza, and Happy set out for Akane Resort.

The four humans and one cat had no idea that Jovian was standing high above them, silently observing their every move.

What happened next unfolded exactly as Jovian remembered.

Erza encountered her former companions, who had been deceived into believing she had betrayed them. After a complicated series of events, they captured her and took her to the Tower of Heaven.

The truth gradually began to emerge.

Jovian did not interfere.

He waited until the insufferably smug Siegrain reunited with Jellal. When the tremendous surge of Magic Power shook the heavens and earth, revealing the full power of a member of the Ten Wizard Saints, Jovian finally stretched his limbs and descended toward the ground.

"Erza, die!"

The deranged Jellal unleashed an overwhelming torrent of Magic Power at Erza.

If the attack struck her directly, she would undoubtedly die.

As Erza faced death, Simon, who had always trusted and protected her, stepped forward to shield her.

Then nothing happened.

Boom!

Jovian descended from the sky and stopped Jellal's attack with one hand.

"What?"

Everyone stared at Jovian in astonishment.

Jellal was especially shocked.

"That's impossible! My false intelligence was supposed to lure you to another continent! How can you be here?"

Jovian looked at him calmly.

"Do you know how long it takes me to make a round trip between two continents when I'm moving at full speed?"

In truth, Jovian had never been deceived.

Ultear was working as his mole.

"Damn it..."

Jellal cursed under his breath, then gradually forced himself to calm down.

He honestly had no idea whether he could defeat the man who had crushed Jose.

"You people look terrible. How did you let the situation get this bad?"

"What happened to teamwork?"

Jovian turned and looked at Erza, who had been beaten so badly that someone else had needed to protect her.

"I let my guard down."

"This was my failure, and I accept full responsibility."

Erza lowered her head, willing to shoulder the blame.

"We're saved..."

"Jovian actually made it in time."

"There's something I don't understand, though. How did you even know we were here?"

Happy looked at Jovian curiously.

"As long as I'm still alive, there's no way I could fail to sense a surge of Magic Power that enormous."

Jovian's answer was as blunt as ever.

"That makes sense..."

Happy could not argue.

The disturbance had been tremendous. Anyone sufficiently powerful should have been able to sense it.

"All right."

"Now let's discuss the fight between you and me."

Jovian clasped his hands behind his back and turned toward Jellal.

"Meteor."

Jellal's expression turned cold.

In an instant, he accelerated to his maximum speed.

"Too slow."

Jovian vanished from in front of him and appeared behind his back.

His fist shot forward.

Boom!

The blow sent Jellal flying.

A low hum filled the air.

Seven radiant magical circles appeared in the sky, shining like stars.

"Grand Chariot!"

Jellal lay sprawled on the ground, blood spilling from his mouth as he quietly invoked the spell.

Countless beams of light immediately rained from the sky.

"Are we going to die?"

Happy and Lucy clung to each other in terror as they watched the innumerable blades of light descend.

Crackle!

Jovian's eyes blazed with scorching heat vision, which he directed toward the sky.

Boom!

A chain of explosions shook the air as every beam of light shattered simultaneously.

"That's it?"

After destroying Grand Chariot, Jovian looked down at Jellal.

"Heh..."

"Of course it isn't over."

"If that were all I had..."

"I would be a disgrace to the Ten Wizard Saints."

"Altairis!"

Jellal unleashed the spell he had prepared.

Altairis was a form of Heavenly Body Magic that produced immense gravitational force, crushing its target like a miniature black hole.

"Boring."

Jovian extended one hand toward the enormous gravitational force.

His telekinesis surged outward like a tidal wave, converging on Jellal from every direction.

"Gah!"

Overwhelmed by the immense telekinetic pressure, Jellal spat out blood and collapsed.

Altairis disappeared with him.

"Is it over?"

Jovian flew toward Jellal and kicked him away like a discarded rag.

"Hahaha!"

"Jovian, you really are powerful, but even you won't survive my final attack!"

"True Heavenly Body Magic: Sema!"

This was Jellal's ultimate technique.

Casting it nearly exhausted all his remaining Magic Power.

Boom!

Dark clouds instantly covered the sky.

A second later, a deafening roar shook the Tower of Heaven as a gigantic meteor descended from above.

"Seriously?"

"Isn't this a little ridiculous?"

Natsu and the others looked up at the enormous meteor above them, panic spreading across their faces.

"Hahaha! It's over!"

Jellal laughed wildly.

If he was going to lose, then everyone would die together.

"Hmph!"

Jovian snorted and shot into the sky, flying directly toward the meteor.

Boom!

Jovian punched the descending meteor with all his strength.

The enormous mass exploded into countless fragments that streaked across the sky above everyone like fireworks.

"Ah..."

Jellal and everyone else stared at the sight with wide eyes.

"True Heavenly Body Magic?"

Jovian looked down at Jellal with open contempt.

"It was just a little rock."
