Chapter 271: One Person Wipes Out Phantom Lord!
Several days later...
When the morning sunlight fell across the Fairy Tail guildhall, it revealed a scene of utter devastation.
Several enormous iron pillars had completely demolished the building. Three Fairy Tail members hung from a tree, their bodies branded with the enormous emblem of Phantom Lord, one of the two strongest guilds in the Kingdom of Fiore.
Jovian cut the three of them down and laid them in front of the guildhall. He removed his coat and used it to cover the humiliating marks on their bodies, then left without saying a word.
He remembered that something like this had happened in the original story, but he could not recall the exact date. He also had not had time to remain beside the trio and protect them. Even if these three had avoided the attack, Phantom Lord might simply have targeted other isolated Fairy Tail members.
Jovian had not moved against Phantom Lord in advance because he lacked a legitimate reason.
Now that Phantom Lord had acted first, however, it could disappear.
On his way out, Jovian encountered Mirajane, who had arrived at the guild early. They approached each other and exchanged a nod.
"Morning, Jovian. Heading out on another job?"
Still unaware of what had happened, Mirajane smiled as she greeted him.
"Yeah..."
Jovian offered no explanation. He merely nodded and continued toward a store that sold maps of every region in the Kingdom of Fiore.
After greeting him, Mirajane kept walking. A moment later, she saw the destroyed guildhall and the three Fairy Tail mages lying unconscious in front of it.
"What...?"
Her eyes trembled.
A sharp crack suddenly split the air behind her. Jovian had emerged from the map store and launched himself into the sky, tearing through the atmosphere before vanishing from sight.
"What happened here?"
Mirajane hurried over to the three fallen mages. She checked their condition first and sighed in relief after confirming that they were merely unconscious.
Then she noticed the Phantom Lord emblem branded onto the body of the blue-haired girl, Levy McGarden.
"This is Jovian's coat..."
Mirajane looked at the coat covering Levy, then remembered the direction Jovian had flown after leaving the map store.
A frightening possibility surfaced in her mind.
"Did Jovian go after Phantom Lord by himself?"
Cold sweat streamed down Mirajane's forehead.
That was far too dangerous. Going alone was practically suicidal. Phantom Lord's master was a member of the Ten Wizard Saints, just like Makarov. He was a monster powerful enough to destroy an entire town.
"What happened here?"
Just as Mirajane was wondering what to do, a cold voice sounded behind her.
She turned and saw Makarov. His usual kindly expression was gone, replaced by a deep frown.
As the head of Fairy Tail and a father figure to every member, Makarov could tolerate damage to the guildhall. They could laugh it off and build another one.
But someone had hurt and humiliated his children.
His anger continued to rise.
"Master, Phantom Lord did this. Jovian found these three and rescued them. He even used his own coat to cover the marks on their bodies..."
Mirajane could feel Jovian's kindness.
In truth, she had always known that Jovian was a gentle person. She did not understand why he had suddenly changed so much, but she remembered every little thing he had done during the years they had worked together.
"Phantom Lord? Was this Jose's doing?"
Makarov's gaze sharpened.
The ground seemed to rumble beneath his feet, and the sky itself appeared to groan as an enormous surge of Magic Power rose from his body.
"Master, there's something even worse. It looks like Jovian went after Phantom Lord alone!"
Mirajane spoke anxiously.
"What?! He went after Phantom Lord by himself? This is bad. Jose may be a worthless bastard, but his strength is genuine. He really is a Wizard Saint. Jovian rushed over there in anger, and he could end up getting hurt..."
Makarov withdrew the Magic Power spreading around him.
His anger was replaced by concern. Several of his children had already been injured. He could not allow another one to be hurt.
"Can you contact Jovian?"
"No."
Mirajane shook her head.
"I already tried. He isn't answering."
"Can we still catch him? How did he leave? Which road did he take?"
Makarov looked toward the sky and tried to estimate Jovian's direction. He intended to unleash all his Magic Power, catch up to him, and stop him.
"Master, Jovian flew. He was incredibly fast, faster than sound."
"He flew there?"
Makarov's expression changed.
"This is really bad..."
He stared helplessly into the sky.
No matter how quickly he moved, he could not catch someone traveling through the air. At Jovian's supersonic speed, he might already be close to Phantom Lord.
"Master, what happened? Who destroyed the guild?"
While Makarov was still struggling to decide what to do, Fairy Tail's members began arriving one after another.
Natsu, Gray, Erza, and Lucy were among them.
"Phantom Lord did it."
Mirajane briefly explained everything that had happened.
Natsu listened without saying a word, then immediately began walking away.
"Get back here!"
Erza grabbed him before he could leave to pick a fight with Phantom Lord.
"Erza, how am I supposed to stay here? Our friends were attacked! You expect me to sit around and do nothing?"
Natsu knocked her hand aside and shouted furiously.
"Calm down. The people angriest about this aren't you or me. It's the master."
Erza looked at the arm Natsu had brushed away, her gaze sharp.
"Master, what are we going to do?"
Natsu turned toward Makarov, who had remained silent.
"If they had only destroyed the guildhall, we could have built another one."
Makarov's body began expanding.
"But they hurt our friends. They hurt my children."
He transformed into an enormous giant and roared.
"We'll pay them back a hundredfold!"
"Fairies, we're going to war!"
"Yeah!"
Natsu and the others shouted in response.
Anyone who hurt a member of Fairy Tail would not be allowed to escape.
Meanwhile, inside Phantom Lord...
"Hahaha!"
"I'd love to see the looks on those idiots' faces when they discover their guildhall has been demolished!"
"I heard Gajeel left a few marks on those Fairy Tail morons too."
"That's fucking perfect!"
Phantom Lord's mages drank and chatted happily among themselves.
They were thrilled by what their guild had done to Fairy Tail and were having the time of their lives.
"Hahaha..."
Jose Porla, Phantom Lord's guild master and one of the Ten Wizard Saints, watched his subordinates celebrate. He was delighted that they had destroyed Fairy Tail's guildhall.
Would Fairy Tail seek revenge?
Jose was not concerned in the slightest.
In his eyes, the members of Fairy Tail were nothing but cowards.
Even if they did come, he had nothing to fear.
He was the evil spirit that devoured fairies.
"Hmph..."
While Jose smiled, a series of vibrations came from above. The entire guildhall gradually began to shake.
"What's happening?"
The Phantom Lord members who had been drinking stared around in confusion.
Only Jose frowned, sensing that something was wrong.
Boom!
A deafening explosion shook the guildhall.
A massive hole was blasted through the ceiling as something descended like a meteor, smashing through the roof and sending countless Phantom Lord mages flying.
"What the hell happened?"
Thick clouds of dust filled the hall, preventing the mages from seeing what lay inside the enormous crater.
From the second floor, Jose stared into the smoke with a deep frown.
He could make out a human silhouette within it.
"Go take a look."
Perhaps emboldened by alcohol, the Phantom Lord members who normally only dared to torment the weak summoned their courage and approached the crater.
Before they could reach it, a strange noise came from within.
Wooden fragments erupted into the air as a figure shot out of the crater and hovered above the floor.
"Who are you?"
The Phantom Lord mages stared at the figure in confusion.
Crackle...
The man showed no intention of answering them.
His eyes began glowing red.
Twin beams of crimson light swept across the crowd.
The Phantom Lord mages instinctively raised magical barriers, but the red beams tore straight through them. The mages were blasted backward, vomiting blood as they struck the walls and floor. Whether they were alive or dead was impossible to tell.
"Damn it, he's from Fairy Tail! I recognize him! He's the Dark Mage Killer!"
As the terrifying red beams tore through their ranks, several people finally recognized the man hovering above them.
Boom!
Recognizing him did nothing to change their fate.
Countless mages had their arms and legs broken beneath the crimson light, and their agonized screams echoed through the guildhall.
"Element 4."
Jose narrowed his eyes at Jovian and spoke quietly.
Four mages emerged from the crowd at his command.
"It's the Element 4!"
"Each of them is strong enough to fight an S-Class mage!"
The four elite mages represented earth, water, fire, and air.
"Hahaha! No matter how powerful a mage may be, no one can defeat the four of us together!"
Sol, the earth mage, had green hair and called himself a gentleman despite being the most despicable member of the group.
Boom!
Jovian's figure flashed past him.
In the next instant, Sol spat out blood and collapsed onto the floor.
"What?!"
The other three members froze.
Jovian was too fast.
None of them had even seen how he attacked.
"Boo-hoo-hoo..."
"I'm so sad..."
Aria, the leader of the Element 4 and its air mage, began to cry.
He was the second most despicable member of the group, although in truth, he might have been even worse than Sol.
"You should be sad. I just cut out one of your kidneys."
Jovian showed no mercy to someone as vile as him.
"Huh?"
Aria looked down at the blood slowly spreading across his abdomen.
He froze.
While instantly defeating Sol, Jovian had also removed one of Aria's kidneys. Jovian had moved so quickly that Aria's body had not even registered the pain yet.
"I..."
Aria tried to speak, but the agony struck him all at once.
His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed unconscious as bright red blood poured from his wound.
At the same time, his body began to close around the injury.
It was not because Aria possessed extraordinary healing abilities. Jovian had moved so quickly that his body had not yet realized it had been pierced.
"Monster..."
Totomaru, the fire mage, drew his katana as he stared at Jovian.
Boom!
The katana shattered instantly.
Totomaru was launched through the air and vanished into the distance.
"Juvia is angry..."
Juvia Lockser, the water mage, transformed into a torrent of rain and surged toward Jovian.
"Knock it off."
Jovian was slightly more restrained with Juvia.
His arm turned pitch-black. With a single strike, he forced Juvia out of her water form and knocked her unconscious. He then threw her safely out of Phantom Lord's guildhall.
"The Element 4 were defeated instantly?!"
The remaining Phantom Lord members stared at the fallen elites in disbelief.
They no longer knew what to do.
"And now, the rest of you..."
Jovian turned toward the crowd.
"Disappear."
His eyes glowed red once more.
Crackle...
Scorching crimson beams swept across the guildhall, and the Phantom Lord mages screamed one after another.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
"As expected of the infamous Dark Guild Killer."
Jose, who had watched Jovian's performance from the second floor, stood in his ridiculous formalwear and applauded softly.
He greatly admired Jovian's combat power.
"I'll give you an opportunity. Join Phantom Lord, and I'll overlook everything you've done here."
As long as Jovian joined his guild, Jose was willing to ignore the destruction he had caused.
As for all the useless trash Jovian had slaughtered, they could die for all he cared.
Phantom Lord had no need for weaklings.
"What kind of stupid shit are you talking about?"
Jovian appeared directly in front of Jose.
"What?!"
Jose's eyes widened.
He had not expected Jovian to have been holding back the entire time. Even Jose had failed to react to that burst of speed.
Fortunately, he no longer needed to react.
Jovian's fist slammed into his face.
Crack!
Jose spat out a mouthful of blood as several teeth flew from his mouth.
"And then there's you."
After leaving Jose dazed with a single punch, Jovian extended one finger toward Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer.
"Guh..."
Gajeel immediately clutched his throat.
He could no longer breathe.
"An invisible force is crushing your throat."
Jovian stared coldly at the Iron Dragon Slayer.
Several hours later, when Fairy Tail's members finally arrived at Phantom Lord, every last one of them was stunned.
The entire guildhall had been reduced to ruins.
Two naked, half-dead mages had been pinned to the top of the shattered building. Enormous Fairy Tail emblems had been stamped across their exposed bodies.
The two men were Jose Porla, Phantom Lord's guild master and one of the Ten Wizard Saints, and Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer who was known as Phantom Lord's strongest mage.
"What...?"
"What happened here?"
The Fairy Tail members stared blankly at the destruction.
They had come seeking revenge, but after seeing the condition Phantom Lord had been left in, they suddenly felt as though Fairy Tail might be the evil guild.
"Did you hear? Fairy Tail's Dark Mage Killer destroyed the entire Phantom Lord guild by himself!"
"I heard he burned every stitch of clothing off Phantom Lord's master and their strongest mage, nailed them to the top of the guildhall, and stamped Fairy Tail's emblem on their bodies!"
"I heard he even sent photographs to the newspapers..."
"He's that terrifying?"
"Shh, keep your voice down. Those people are from Fairy Tail."
"Holy shit, there are so many of them! Was destroying Phantom Lord not enough? Did they come to beat the corpses too?"
Several passersby discussed the incident, unknowingly explaining everything to the Fairy Tail members.
"What do we do, Master?"
Erza looked toward Makarov.
"Before the Magic Council arrives to arrest us, retreat at full speed!"
Makarov's face turned pale as he spoke in a trembling voice.
He had expected a brutal battle.
After seeing the devastation before him, however, only one thought remained in his mind.
The Magic Council would definitely hold him responsible for this.
The only thing they could do now was return home as quickly as possible and manufacture an alibi.
Makarov also knew that the Magic Council could do nothing to Jovian, a man who appeared and disappeared without warning and did whatever he pleased.
That meant they would inevitably place the blame on Makarov instead.
He truly had no idea how he was supposed to deal with this.
"You got it!"
The Fairy Tail members nodded and ran home at three times the speed they had traveled there.
At the same time, newspapers everywhere began frantically printing new headlines.
"Shocking! Phantom Lord, One of the Kingdom of Fiore's Two Great Guilds, Has Been Destroyed! Guild Master and Wizard Saint Defeated!"
"Shocking! Someone Stamped a Guild Emblem on a Ten Wizard Saint's Unmentionables! Note: Photographs Are Protected by Magic. Pay to Unlock the Full Images!"
Newspapers printed increasingly outrageous headlines one after another.
Whatever else could be said about the incident, sales were absolutely exploding.
And it was not limited to the Kingdom of Fiore.
People across the entire continent eagerly read every new report.
After all, the title of Wizard Saint was not restricted to the Kingdom of Fiore. It was recognized throughout the entire continent.
