[Chapter 162: The last barrier]

...

Chief Levis first got his unique skill when he was thirteen. At first he was confused but a voice spoke that belonged to a cloaked man belonged to him.

"If you wish to use this power then state how many years you are willing to sacrifice. Don’t doubt my words, for I am a Truthseeker."

"As if I would want to be older. Only a fool would do such a thing, and what the hell is a Truthseeker anyways?" Young Levis said in a cocky tone.

However it wasn’t even a month later when a raid approached his village. Because there were no Heroes at the time, and the knights that were meant to protect them were drunkards, they had died fighting goblins.

As young Levis watched his people be slaughtered.

Due to his inability to engage in combat, he began regretting not participating in the swordsmanship classes that the knights would teach when they were sober, young Levis realized that he only had one choice.

"I sacrifice one week of my life." A surge of strength then pulsed through his veins and muscles.

Running towards a goblin, he killed the demon with a singular punch.

It didn’t just kill the goblin but completely eviscerated it.

"T-Thank you." Said a girl around the same age at Levis.

"No problem." Levis wiped his nose.

The girl wasn’t just a random girl but it was someone that he had fallen in love with.

When Levis was about to punch another goblin, his face grew shock as his attack didn’t do anything to the goblin.

"Damn it, you’re kidding me right? I have to spend more years just..!" Levis gritted his teeth.

"I sacrifice one day of my life." Levis then blocked a swing from a wooden club before countering with a devastating punch.

His fist had penetrated the goblin.

Pulling back his hand free, through the hole he made on the goblin’s head, Levis wiped the blood off of him.

But he wasn’t done yet, there were still many demons left.

Running towards the center of the village, the girl he loved following him from behind.

Levis was aiming to run to the storage house.

Multiple shops were open near the storage house, and a lot of people gather there to hang out.

Once he arrives there, then he’ll be able to get the help he needs.

"I sacrifice one day..!" Levis smacked a goblin’s head clean off by hitting it with the back of his fist.

"When did you get so strong, you’re the furthest person who I’d expect to have such strength... especially from such a lazy bum such as you..!" The girl chuckled faintly.

"I have been training in secret, I was just too tired to do anything other than that." Said Levis.

Of course this was a lie, all he ever did was sneak into shops and steal food from his aunts and uncles before hiding out in a barnyard, basking in the sun.

Soon, the center of the village came to view.

"Finally we’ve made it!" A large smile filled with relief appeared on Levis’ face.

However it was slowly wiped away as the girl accompanying her fell to her knees.

"W-What..?" She cried.

Everyone had died, all that was left was the evidence of combat.

Pitch forks were stabbed into dead goblins and the corpse’s bodies had been pulverized.

Levis didn’t know it but it at the time, but when he sacrifices time off his lifespan, it isn’t just his strength that increases but his entire body as a whole.

"Come on rose, we’ve gotta hide out until this blows over..." Levis whispered, helping the girl—’Rose’, stand up.

Rose’s face was filled with despair and her face was a mess due to her crying.

Pushing upon the storage house’s doors with all of his might that wasn’t supported by his lifespan sacrificial ability.

Stacking sacks of rice on top of each other, Levis made a makeshift fort.

"I won’t you to hide here until thing’s have died down." Said Levis, forcing a smile.

"Stay here with me." Said Rose, tucking her legs together.

"Someone has to be on guard—"

Suddenly, footsteps emerged behind him.

"Kyeeee." Said a goblin, dragging his wooden club across the dirt ground.

"Damn it." Turning around, Levis got into a crude fighting stance.

He had never had any experience in fighting aside from protecting his portion of food from his friends, so his stance looked awkward. But Levis didn’t see it that way, to him he looked really cool.

"It’s just one goblin, I can handle this."

Suddenly, multiple goblins came into view.

It wasn’t just a few goblins but all of them.

The goblins had followed Levis’ trail by following the path of dead goblins.

"Keyeeeeeee!" The goblins erupted in rage.

"There’s too many of them, we should run!" Rose stuck her head over the stacks of rice sacks.

Extending an open palm at Rose, he turned it into a thumbs up.

"I sacrifice one day." Lunging forward, Levis killed a goblin with a single punch.

Just when a wooden club was about to slam into him, Levis jumped back out of the way.

"Sacrifice one day." Young Levis stepped forward, continuing to slaughter the goblins.

His voice drowned in the voice of the goblin’s cries.

All that rose could hear was singular words but when combined it would say only one thing:

"Sacrifice one day."

Rose wasn’t an idiot, she clicked things together.

The source of strength that Levis is able to exert came from his lifespan.

Levis was sacrificing the precious time he had left to live to protect her.

Growing tired, Levis was too slow to chant the words that granted him strength.

With a smack from the goblin’s wooden club, Levis blocked the attack with his forearms.

Getting sent flying back, Levis immediately stood up.

But when he raised his hands, one of his fists weren’t in his peripheral vision.

His left forearm’s bones had been shattered.
