Chapter 53 - Lynn, the witch
Silas pondered about his approach. In the game, the elf was wonderful to converse and kind. She also guided the protagonist in his mage path and the usage of his gift.
She was a wonderful person to interact with. Silas remembered about her fondly in his memories.
Perhaps, that was why he hesitated about his approach. The elf he saw in the game had completed two years of growth.
Well, in the eyes of the elf, two years was nothing but Silas had to be sure. He had to be certain. Otherwise, all will crumble down.
Silas shot a glance at Roland and they both nodded at each other.
Silas walked forward, trying to appear like a puppy. The best choice would be to introduce himself as a weakling.
People subconsciously lowered their guards toward the weakling. And whether the age or strength, Silas was like a baby to her.
"Hello." He called out.
The elf opened her eyes, her emerald eyes shone under the sunlight, reflecting. She didn’t look at him and instead stared at the giant tree in the middle of the Palm.
Her eyes were longing as the treasure in front of her was the most important thing in her life. Then, she turned around, immediately her eyes changed from a gentle warmth to that of a killer.
Fear washed over Silas.
"State your reason, Servant of Eli." She said flatly.
Silas tilted his head wondering why she addressed him as such. But he remembered Vae.
So he shook his head, denying. "No. No. I am not his servant."
The elf raised her eyebrows and waited.
"I am a traveler. I came here because something called upon me." Silas told her the same lie he fed to Eli.
"Then, you are an enemy."
"What? No..." Before he could finish his speech, the elf lifted up her hand.
Roland dashed in front of him and ready to guard her attack with his sword.
There was no mana her attack or energy. She didn’t use any of those. Her body burned with energy and mana but the attack didn’t contain any of that.
The surface in front of the sword twisted in a spiral in front of Roland’s eyes.
"Vae." Silas called out. "Stop us."
"Begone, traveller." The elf said and pushed her hand forward.
The twisting surface undone and released a wave of energy, pushing Roland and Silas from the mountain.
They were sent flying outside. The gravity distorted and pushed back.
Silas hugged himself and could only wait for Vae.
In an instant, they reached back to Eli’s place, crushing through the trees and such.
Vae grabbed hold of them, and used the wind to stop the momentum.
"Phew. Not a good sight. Not a good sight at all." Eli’s sound echoed.
Silas looked up from the ground and saw the young elf reading. He grumbled and stood up.
Roland also stood up and immediately checked his sword and found that there were no scratches on it.
"What was that?" He muttered. "It is not a spell or technique. Domain?"
Silas shook his head. "No. It is a gift. You have a gift right?"
Roland nodded.
"Her power came from the gift."
"My understanding of the gift is shallow." Roland muttered.
"Not all gifts are the same. Some used mana as a fuel and others energy. Some don’t use any at all." Silas looked at Eli in the last part.
Silas scratched his head and turned away from the Pointer finger. He decided to aim at the Ring Finger’s peak master.
Roland followed and asked. "Tell me about her gift."
"Sure. It is called distortion. She can distort everything she sees. The application of the gift was only known to her. The limit as well."
"Is there a way to block her gift? And who is she?"
"There is a way. That is to have mana or energy levels higher than her. She has a fourth circle on both mana and energy so that is out of the question. The other way is to have the opposite gift. Since we don’t have any, let’s just leave."
Roland sighed. "Before I left Viremont, I thought I was talented and strong."
"You are." Silas reminded him. "We are just meeting with the top tier individuals and you can reach their place in time."
"Oh, and her name is Lynn. She is an old elf but don’t remind her. She is called a witch by the church of sun."
"Our church?"
"Yes. Her head is worth a lot of money but don’t even think about that."
Roland shrugged and giggled. "I don’t even dare. So it is the Ring finger."
Silas stood on the edge and stared at the giant mountain. He called out Vae and thanked the spirit for saving them.
Soon, both men were in the sky like a bird.
"How is the master of the Ring Finger?" Roland asked.
"Hmm.. how should I say? She is completely insane. Better to kill her." Silas said with a smile.
"Ehh?"
Like before, they stopped at the edge and were immediately surrounded by spells and people.
Many elves popped out from the ground, holding weapons in their hands. Their eyes were not focused, Roland sensed their intentions, and were greatly confused by it.
Nevertheless, as a knight he had a duty to protect so he took his sword and flashed the energy.
Everyone here was in the second circle and the highest only reached Third. Even with numbers advantages both Roland and Silas could kill them.
But that was not a complete victory.
Silas placed his hand in front of Roland and motioned him to stop. He then stepped forward and said out loud to the crowd.
"I am here to speak with Aanacia."
Everyone here shook and frowned.
"Tell me why?" They all spoke the same, overlapping with each other, giving the illusion of a hive mind.
"Because I am a traveler, wanting to negotiate with everyone here. My goal is to reach a happy ending and break the tension in the mountain."
"Interesting."
With that the crowd parted away and revealed a path.
"Follow the path, you will see my body."
Silas nodded. Roland came to his side, looking around at the absence minded people. He then whispered into his ear.
"What is going on?"
"It is a gift." Silas said. "Aanacia, the leader of the mercenaries group. She held the power of Connection."
"If someone is weaker than her, she consumes their mind and turns into her. And if that person is stronger, she will invade their mind and find out their secret. A really insane woman."
Roland felt goosebumps all over his body as his eyes changed. "What are you saying? They are all the same person."
"Yes. Creepy right?"
"Not just creepy. It is worse."
Silas nodded.
"And to think she is labeled as a witch." Roland muttered.
"That is because the higher ups in the church sometimes rely on her."
"For what?"
"Are you pretending to be ignorant?"
"Yeah. Sorry for stupid question." Roland sighed. "How did you know all this?"
Silas smiled and joked. "It is revealed to me in a dream."
Roland punched him on the side and Silas blocked the fist. They both chuckled under the watchful eyes of Aanacia.
Dealing with Aanacia was difficult and time consuming, so he had to find a way to kick out of the game.
’Huh... for an insane woman, she is surprisingly rational but it is all an act.’ Silas thought.
He could already deduce her goal. With her gift, the World tree’s tears were useless to her. Because of that she and Silas were the one aiming at the snake’s treasure.
