Chapter 264 - 262: It’s Her? An Old Acquaintance
With this in mind, she said, "I trust my brother’s judgment."
Her brother had said many children had been born into the clan. That must mean their people were doing well. ’It’s wonderful,’ she thought, ’that our Norgath Witch Clan is so prosperous now.’
All this time, her brother not only had to ensure the safety of their clan, but he also had to take care of Yana for her. And back then, to protect that last wisp of her soul, he had done everything in his power, even damaging his own Primordial Spirit. Thinking about all this, Hannah Sawyer felt a pang of guilt.
She owed her brother so much.
"Brother, thank you."
Elder Sawyer didn’t like the sound of that. He looked at his younger sister. "I’m your brother. There’s no need for thanks between us. As long as I can see that you and Yana are both doing well, that’s my greatest happiness."
Hannah Sawyer smiled and nodded.
"Yes. We’ll be just fine."
Seeing the family so happy, Victor Rhodes, who was standing to the side, raised his hand. "And me! From now on, our family will never be separated again. All the bad things are in the past. Only good days await us."
Perhaps he was being a little conspicuous, because Hannah Sawyer’s gaze finally turned to him. She looked curiously at her brother and daughter and asked, "Who is this young man?" She ventured a guess. "Could he be your son, Brother?"
"No..."
Hearing this, Elder Sawyer quickly waved his hand in dismissal. He smiled. "How could I have a son this old? This is our family’s son-in-law. He’s Yana’s husband." As he spoke, he introduced Victor Rhodes to his sister.
’Yana’s husband?’
’That means he’s my son-in-law!!!’
At that moment, Hannah Sawyer froze. She pointed at Victor Rhodes, then looked at her brother, completely stunned. She asked in disbelief, "Brother, are you saying he’s Yana’s husband? My son-in-law?"
Elder Sawyer nodded slightly. "Yes, he is Yana’s husband. The two of them are already married. This kid isn’t bad. I approved of this marriage."
He had agreed mainly because the boy was a good man, he was sensible, and he treated Yana so well he’d die for her. The boy’s Cultivation Talent was also quite good, so he was very pleased with his niece’s husband. Otherwise, he never would have consented to the marriage.
As his uncle-in-law introduced him, Victor Rhodes quickly chimed in.
"Yes, yes! I’m Yana’s husband."
"My name is Victor Rhodes. I used to be a cultivator from the Immortal Sect, the Falling Snow Sect. But now I’ve married into your family. I’m Yana’s husband, and from now on, wherever Yana is, that’s my home." He seemed quite happy about this, not at all embarrassed about having married into her family. In fact, he acted as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Victor Rhodes introduced himself openly and enthusiastically. After he finished, he stepped forward, knelt down with a THUD, and bowed his head. "Your son-in-law greets you, Mother-in-law! May you have a long and healthy life."
Seeing him kneel to her, Hannah Sawyer quickly reached out to help him up. But her soul body was too weak now. A moment ago, she could touch her daughter’s face, but not anymore.
She could only make a gesture of helping him up.
She said, "This... Get up, child. If you’re Yana’s husband, then you’re my son-in-law. We’re all family, there’s no need for such formalities."
Victor Rhodes was a sweet-talker. "Mother-in-law, it’s what a son-in-law ought to do. You’re Yana’s mother, which makes you my mother. There’s nothing wrong with a son bowing to his own mother. From now on, I’ll honor you as if you were my own birth mother."
Hannah Sawyer was a bit at a loss.
She felt as though she had woken from a long slumber to find her daughter all grown up, and now she even had a husband. She had missed so, so much of her daughter’s life.
"Get up, my good son-in-law."
"Thank you, Mother-in-law."
Victor Rhodes got up and took his wife’s hand.
Hannah Sawyer looked at her daughter and son-in-law, a smile spreading across her face. As the saying goes, the more a mother-in-law looks at her son-in-law, the more she likes him.
She trusted her brother’s judgment, so Hannah Sawyer was very satisfied with this son-in-law.
"Victor, you and Yana must have a good life together."
"And you too, Yana. You must treat this boy well." ’Wait, something about that sounds a bit off. Oh well, it’s not important. As long as the family lives in harmony, that’s all that matters.’
This made Victor Rhodes happy.
"Did you hear that, wifey? Mother-in-law said you have to treat me well from now on." He leaned against her, looking as smug as a pampered young bride.
Yvonne Sawyer’s lips twitched, and she couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. "So you’ve just gained another backer."
Victor Rhodes chuckled.
"Of course!"
Hannah Sawyer looked at them and said, "Alright, I need to return to my host body. My soul body is very weak right now. I can’t maintain this form any longer."
Elder Sawyer nodded. "Alright. You’ll have to bear with it for now."
As they spoke, Hannah Sawyer’s Primordial Spirit re-entered the Seven-star Ladybug.
The Seven-star Ladybug then flapped its wings, flew up, and landed on her daughter’s sleeve to rest.
The family was overjoyed to be reunited, but the thought that his sister didn’t even have a body of her own soured Elder Sawyer’s expression. His gaze shifted to the ladybug on his niece’s sleeve. "Sister, what happened? Where is your body? Who on earth broke into the array here?"
Elder Sawyer grew angrier just talking about it. He had thought his sister had already met with a terrible fate. Fortunately, not only was her Primordial Spirit still intact, she had also awakened.
Hearing her brother’s question, Hannah Sawyer grew furious as she recalled what had happened.
"Brother, my Primordial Spirit was dormant the whole time. An outside Primordial Spirit possessed my body. I tried to drive her out, but my own Primordial Spirit was too weak, and I failed. Not only did this intruder take over my body, she even tried to erase my existence! How outrageous!"
"I have never in my life met such a shameless cultivator! She had the gall to say she desperately needed my body, and that after taking it, she would help take care of my family for me. Utterly shameless! When the original Primordial Spirit still exists, this kind of act is body-snatching! In the world of Cultivation, how is that any different from what an Evil Cultivator does?"
Hearing this, Elder Sawyer’s face darkened. With a wave of his hand, the cliff face opposite them collapsed with a mighty CRASH.
"Despicable!"
Yvonne Sawyer remained impassive, her expression unreadable. Inwardly, however, she was already plotting their death.
Victor Rhodes was indignant and started cursing outright. "That fucking bitch... Who would be so bold as to possess my mother-in-law’s body? They must have a death wish! I’ll gather my people and we’ll hunt them down!"
The three of them looked at the Seven-star Ladybug at the same time.
They all asked.
"Who was it?"
"Tell us who it is. We won’t let them get away with this."
"We’ll make sure their Primordial Spirit is utterly annihilated."
Hannah Sawyer recalled what the woman had said as she left. "It was the Primordial Spirit of a female cultivator named Jocelyn Grant. Yes... she was the one who possessed my body."
Victor Rhodes raised a hand, a look of confusion on his face. "Wait a minute. It couldn’t be someone with the same name, could it? What a coincidence."
He couldn’t be blamed for recognizing the name; he’d heard his men mention it before.
