Chapter 265 - 263: Th-Th-This... The Blunder Was My Fault?
’Wasn’t Jocelyn Grant the name of one half of that wretched couple the Bloodfury Hall brothers sent to the mines?’
’Right, and from what he understood, this Jocelyn Grant was a black widow of sorts—the kind who specialized in backstabbing her Taoist Companions, and she never missed.’
Yana also froze for a moment, muttering, "It’s actually her!"
’It feels like this woman is everywhere. Truly inescapable. What ill wind blew her here, of all places? And she even possessed my mother’s body.’
At the mention of this name, Elder Sawyer immediately remembered who Jocelyn Grant was.
He’d heard from Old Man Lawson that this Jocelyn Grant was one of the Madam’s old enemies. Elder Sawyer also knew the Madam had once put out a bounty for her, so the name was familiar.
Elder Sawyer had heard that Jocelyn Grant’s own mother once dug out the Madam’s Spirit Root to give to her. And now, Jocelyn Grant herself had possessed someone else’s body while their Primordial Spirit still existed. They both had the makings of Evil Cultivators.
Not only that, he had also heard Nerida mention that there was something uncanny about this Jocelyn Grant; she always managed to vanish without a trace at critical moments. She seemed to have some great fortune on her side.
’Tch, but who cares who she is.’
’Now that she’s messed with us, we won’t let her get away with it.’
’The Madam’s enemy.’
’Our enemy.’
’Perfect. We can settle all scores, new and old, at the same time.’
But before that, just in case they had the wrong person, Elder Sawyer waved his hand and restored the Array here. He used Magic to reconstruct what had happened.
The scene that then appeared in the projection before them was of a palm-sized wooden puppet falling from the sky, straight into the Array, completely unimpeded.
If it had been any other soul body, the Array would have obliterated its Primordial Spirit. Yet she was completely unharmed and even landed on his sister’s Soul Nourishing Coffin, where she lay dormant.
As a wooden puppet, Jocelyn Grant used the power of the Soul Nourishing Coffin to heal her damaged Primordial Spirit. Not only that, she even used the puppet’s body for several months of Cultivation before breaking the seal and emerging from it, ultimately possessing his sister’s body.
There was no mistake. The illusory image of the Primordial Spirit that emerged from the wooden puppet was Jocelyn Grant.
So the wooden puppet the Madam had thrown away had, by a strange twist of fate, ended up here. They wouldn’t blame the Madam for this, of course; they just felt that Jocelyn Grant’s luck was a bit too good. A random toss, and she finds herself a body. Even if it wasn’t his sister’s body, it could have been someone else’s. No wonder Nerida said there was something uncanny about her. It seemed to be true.
The final scene showed Jocelyn Grant leaving, and they heard the words she spoke as she left.
Victor Rhodes couldn’t help but spit. "Shameless! Absolutely shameless! She steals someone’s body and still speaks with such self-righteous conviction. Where does she get the nerve?"
Yana’s face was cold, her mind already racing with ways to kill the woman. "As soon as we get back, I’m gathering our forces. I don’t care if she hides at the ends of the earth, I’ll hunt her down. My mother’s body must be returned. If it’s damaged in the slightest, I’ll tear her Primordial Spirit to shreds!"
Victor Rhodes nodded emphatically. "Leave it to me. That bitch Jocelyn dared to lay a hand on my mother-in-law. I’ll make her pay."
Compared to them, Elder Sawyer was calmer. "Let’s go back and report this to the Madam before we decide what to do," he said. "We must get my sister’s body back. As for this Jocelyn Grant... she deserves to die."
The people of the Bloodfiend Den were fiercely protective of their own.
He waved his hand, dispelling the Array, and picked up the fallen wooden puppet. Elder Sawyer and his two companions, along with the bug, then departed and returned to the Bloodfiend Den.
Back in the Bloodfiend Den, when they told their Madam what had happened, Celeste Grant was stunned.
At first, she thought she had misheard. Now, hearing the news, Celeste Grant wore an expression of utter disbelief. "You’re saying Jocelyn Grant’s Primordial Spirit has possessed Yana’s Mother’s body? Are you sure it’s Jocelyn Grant?"
’Oh my god, what was I even hearing?’
Elder Sawyer nodded. "Yes, Madam. This is what happened..."
As she listened to Elder Sawyer’s account, Celeste Grant pressed a hand to her forehead and couldn’t help but curse. "Fuck... that woman is such a bitch. No, this damn plot armor of hers is just ridiculous."
’I sealed her Primordial Spirit in that palm-sized puppet just to see what she’d do. I never thought a careless toss would send her to the other side of the world. And then, by some absurd twist of fate, she had the dumb luck to find a new body. To make it worse, it had to be one of my own people. This is unforgivable.’
’I can’t believe this is my fault.’
Celeste Grant felt a pang of regret.
’If I’d known, I would have thrown it in a different direction.’
At this thought, she looked at Elder Sawyer apologetically and bowed.
"Elder, I am so sorry about this. I never expected that toss would lead to something like this. Thank goodness Yana’s Mother’s soul is safe, otherwise I could never rest easy."
"No, no, Madam, please rise."
Elder Sawyer bowed slightly and said, "Madam, please don’t say that. I have never blamed you. This isn’t your fault; that woman is just uncanny. We told you about this so we could discuss how to find that female cultivator."
Celeste Grant patted him on the shoulder, her expression serious. "Rest assured, I will give you a proper resolution and capture this Jocelyn Grant. You are an elder of our Bloodfiend Den, which makes your sister one of my people. Since Jocelyn Grant dared to touch one of my people, I’ll make her pay in blood."
"Yana’s Mother’s body must be recovered, and quickly. Even if she’s only using it temporarily, she is not worthy."
"Elder Sawyer, relay my orders to the disciples of the Bloodfiend Den who are abroad. Have them temporarily drop everything they are doing and search for any trace of Jocelyn Grant. At all costs, you must ensure that body is brought back completely unharmed."
Hearing her mobilize such a force, Elder Sawyer was moved.
He bowed to express his thanks.
"I thank you, Madam."
Celeste Grant looked at him and said, "No, I should be the one apologizing to you. This is my fault."
"But let’s not talk about that now. First, take your people and go find her."
Elder Sawyer nodded.
"Yes, Madam. I will take my leave."
After the elder left, the more Celeste Grant thought about it, the angrier she became.
’She and Jocelyn Grant were destined rivals. It seemed that wherever I go, Jocelyn Grant is bound to appear.’ With this in mind, she prepared to head out herself.
Normally, Celeste Grant couldn’t be bothered to deal with her unless it was absolutely necessary. But this matter had to be resolved. Yana’s mother’s body had to be recovered as soon as possible. The longer a body was separated from its owner, the more damage Yana’s Mother’s Primordial Spirit would suffer.
And Yana’s Mother’s Primordial Spirit had looked very weak to begin with.
Thinking of this, her figure vanished in an instant.
When she reappeared, she was already flying on her sword, having left the Bloodfiend Den. She headed toward a place where Jocelyn Grant was likely to appear.
Based on what Elder Sawyer and the others had said, Celeste Grant guessed that Jocelyn Grant would probably head to Primal Heaven City.
’I’ll go check there first.’
