Chapter 56: Ch 56: Expected Guests
"I am fine now. Can I get back to work?"
Rin asked for the fourth time in ten minutes and Reina gave him the same answer. She shoved him back into the bed and gave him a tired sigh.
"Stop moving around so much. You might be feeling alright, but you should still ensure that you are well rested. It would be much worse if you collapsed in front of others"
Reina checked the results on her screen for the fourth time but they did not change. Rin was healthy but she was still not willing to risk it.
Even if Rin showed up healthy in her scans, she knew his tendencies well. He would start pushing himself beyond his limits the moment he was allowed to. And Reina refused to let that happen under her watch.
She was even willing to tie Rin to the bed to ensure he did not move around as he pleased.
"Tsk, this is unfair. You all are ganging up on me. I am perfectly fine."
Rin complained but Reina pretended she did not hear. She also looked at Shelly and Teressa and signaled for them to be strong and not give in to Rin’s pleas.
Shelly immediately took advantage of the situation and took hold of Rin’s hand.
"Rin, what will I do if you collapse? I-I don’t want to see you in pain anymore. Please take care of your health. At least...for my sake."
Reina hated Shelly’s acting and the way she clung to Rin. It was unnecessarily bold, and she was crossing too many boundaries. Seeing all this made Reina’s hand twitch with the desire to wring her neck.
But Rin’s softening face made it all worth it in her eyes.
She had always known that Rin had a soft spot for Shelly, but seeing it in action was something different. Rin’s face flushed bright pink and he stuttered over his words.
"Shelly, I am not pushing myself. I can handle it just fine. See! I am not hurt anywhere-"
"Then you will rest a little more? I don’t want to see you collapse."
Rin looked tired but he gave Shelly a fond smile. Reina noticed it and felt her stomach churn with jealousy.
She knew that Shelly and Rin had a special relationship, but this was the first time she was seeing it in person. Reina had been sure she would be able to handle seeing something like this. But it was a bitter pill to swallow now.
’I want to push Shelly away and tell her to leave the room immediately. But there is a chance Rin would not listen to me and return to work. Looks like I will have to depend on Shelly for his sake.’
Reina’s desire to destroy stuff was increasing.
Luckily for her, head butler Collin opened the door before Reina could do anything rash. He looked around until his eyes found his young master and he gave a fond smile.
"Young Master, are you feeling better now? Miss Reina, what is his condition?"
"Rin is fine now. But I still need him to stay in bed for a little longer and keep an eye on his vitals. He might look smart, but he’s stupid when it comes to handling his health."
Rin protested in the background, citing that he was not stupid and that everyone was too overprotective. But everyone ignored his complaint.
The butler nodded, his eyes hardening before he spoke.
"Since the young master needs more rest, I’ll tell our ’guests’ to come back tomorrow.. Actually, you might want to come with me, Miss Reina. Someone is here to see you."
The head butler was as calm as ever, but his words made Reina feel uneasy.
’Someone is here to meet me? Who could it be?’
It could not be her friends because she did not have any. And she doubted her parents managed to survive during the apocalypse.
She couldn’t think of anyone else who would come to see her—
"The person said she’s Amelia, your younger sister. I am not familiar with her, even though I know of her existence. You should head out and check for yourself."
Reina froze at that and blinked, trying to steady her suddenly dizzy vision.
She felt shocked, excited, betrayed and terrified at the same time. She was happy that her sister had survived, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the shock that she had forgotten her until now.
’How did I forget about Amelia? She is my whole world and I just...this is all because Rin worried me so much. It’s all his fault. If he was not so reckless and did not make me worry, then I won’t have forgotten about Amelia.’
Reina tried to reason with herself, but she knew in her heart that this was not true. Rin was not the reason she had forgotten about Amelia until now. It was because of her own feelings. Rin had somehow become more important to her than her own sister.
The butler misunderstood her silence and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Miss, are you alright? Should I send your sister and her partner back? I can give you more time-"
"No, it’s alright. I will go and talk with my sister. It’s been so long since we last met and I was worried about her. Please bring her and her partner inside. I will be there-"
"Butler, take Miss Amelia and her partner to my office instead. I want to have a talk with them first."
Rin interfered before Reina was finished speaking. He was not looking at her but at the butler instead.
The elder man had a choice to make. But he had already shown that he didn’t want Rin working so he was surely going to take Reina’s side, right?
But she got betrayed by the butler as she watched him bow at Rin and nod immediately.
"I will do as you say, young master. But please, take this meeting easy. You have still not recovered yet."
The butler chided softly before he left. That left a bad taste in Reina’s mouth and she turned to look at Rin and ask him questions...only to find him already looking at her with a serious expression.
’What is he looking at? What does he want from me?’
These questions flashed through Reina’s mind but she didn’t jump to conclusions. Instead, she waited for Rin to speak up first.
