My Childhood Friend Turned Yandere in the Apocalypse

Chapter 55: Ch 55: Let’s go to the Shelter

"I am fine for now. I just have a small headache after watching you all fight in front of me."

Rin spoke honestly and he managed to make the fighting pair flinch. They looked at each other for a second before jumping back immediately with disgusted looks on their faces.

A bitter smile bloomed on Rin’s face as soon as he watched that synchronized reaction in front of him.

’Darn it. Why are they suddenly so in sync now? Was the only reason they acted out to cause me trouble?’

That was likely not the case, but it was starting to feel more and more likely. It was starting to annoy Rin enough to make him want to drop the topic and focus on important stuff.

No one looked convinced by Rin’s excuse, and they grabbed him to take him to Reina for a small checkup.

Reina was visibly concerned to see Rin and she immediately checked him over. But she did not find anything wrong with him.

"See? Everything is normal. Can I get up and leave now?"

Rin asked as he tried to push himself off the bed, but Reina pushed him back down with a serious expression on her face.

"Your profile might have shown that there is nothing wrong with you, but we can’t be sure yet. Just rest here for an hour or two to ensure that everything is alright and then you can head out."

His attempt to reason with her failed due to her stubbornness. Rin could only admit defeat at this point and shake his head.

Reina pretended not to notice his resistance and went back to her study. Shelly and Teressa remained in the room as well, but did not speak to Rin.

Rin tried to fall asleep, but it was impossible. He pretended to rest anyway to satisfy the three people keeping an eye on him until he was allowed to leave the medical wing.

Unfortunately, Rin had no time to relax. As soon as he got out of the medical wing, an unexpected guest was waiting at his door..

"Don’t look so gloomy, Amelia. I know that life is hard in the apocalypse, but it’s still better than being kidnapped and being held hostage, right?"

Amelia looked at Albus’s cheerful face with doubt in her eyes. She tried to smile at his obvious joke but her heart was not in it.

She did not know why, but she felt like Albus had changed ever since Shelly left. He was a little more gloomy and downcast. He was still helpful and treated her the same way, but something about him felt...different compared to before.

It was not a feeling she knew how to convey, so Amelia kept her smile neutral and tried her best to not show how uncomfortable she felt.

But it was hard to maintain her neutral expression when Albus kept trying to cross boundaries with her.

Even now, Albus was brushing against Amelia’s fingers unconsciously and she felt a shiver go down her spine at the barest contact.

’Should I say something to Albus? I am feeling a little nervous and uncomfortable.’

The old Amelia wouldn’t even have thought about something like this. She had been too shy and tired to confront anyone. That was usually left to her elder sister to handle.

But her elder sister was not here at the moment. Now, it was just Amelia, and she had to handle things on her own..

"I...feel a little uncomfortable with the situation. Do you think-"

"Shhhh, don’t say anymore. I understand your feelings perfectly. Being alone can make you feel scared. Hmm, I wanted to wait a little bit longer before suggesting it, but shall we head to a shelter? Being around other people might help you feel better."

Amelia felt guilty as soon as Albus finished speaking. He was so understanding toward her and tried to hear her out as well. But all Amelia was doing was causing him trouble.

This made her feel guilty and she immediately agreed to Albus’s suggestion.

"If you think that it’s for the best, then I will follow your lead."

She spoke firmly and Albus nodded before he led the way. They crossed the empty town and it took them no time to reach the wealthy part of the town. The buildings were still intact and amenities still had power.

It suddenly seemed like the world had remained unchanged in these parts of the town and it felt wrong for Amelia to walk through such a place.

They had not walked far when someone suddenly spotted them and Albus stepped forward to greet the person.

"Hello. We are Sir Rin’s friends. We came here to ask a favor-"

One second Albus was speaking and the next, he had a gun pointed at his face.

"How dare you try and use Sir Rin’s name in front of me. Do you take me for a fool? What is your true purpose in coming here?"

The stranger asked while holding Albus at gunpoint. But Albus did not look worried. Instead of showing fear, he stepped forward and grabbed the gun firmly. His eyes challenged the guard to try and shoot him.

"Rin would be so disappointed if he knew what you were doing to his precious guests. You might even get thrown out of this settlement in the worst case scenario. Are you sure you want to risk this?"

The stranger suddenly looked caught between a rock and a hard place. His gun did not lower but his hands were shaking with stress. He let out a curse in the end and put the gun down.

"Darn it! You will pay for threatening me."

The man cursed before he grumbled and allowed them to follow him.

"Since you are Sir Rin’s guests, I will take you to the main house. But you will be in a world of pain if you lied about not being Sir Rin’s guests. We don’t take kindly to liars around here."

The stranger threatened, still not fully believing their words. But he was not willing to risk his well-being either.

That was how the two ended up in the main house, and Amelia felt uneasy.

She knew of Rin and she had often seen him with her sister. But Amelia had not been close to Rin. What if he did not recognize her? Or what if he did and still told her to head back?

What will she do? What will Albus do? Unfortunately, she had no answer to that question.
