Chapter 209: Heartbroken
Another day, another circle of life. Amelia cleaned Dr. Frankenstein, making sure his needs were taken well prepared for.
She put on a medical mask and carried the water basin out of the room.
Nurses and doctors rushed back and forth, going to the next patients.
Dr. Frankenstein may have stabilized the situation in Luandon. But more people were still catching Black Blood every day.
The rumor that Dr. Frankenstein caught the disease himself had also gone out, placing even more panic into the Chaos.
Amelia walked through the hallway, witnessing the chaos unfolded and fearing silently.
'When will this end?' She asked herself. 'Will Anglas ever get rid of Black Blood or are they doomed to forever struggle in this hell?'
When Amelia returned to Frankenstein's room, he was still sleeping soundly. The young nurse sighed deeply.
She sat on the bed and placed her hand on his forehead, checking his temperature.
"You need to wake up, Victor." She whispered gently. "You need to wake up. Because the people need you."
Amelia's vision blurred a little bit. She caught herself on the handrail of the bed.
The young nurse hadn't gotten a lot of good sleep lately. The sick air in the hospital and the terror haunted her dreams.
Victor's eyelids fluttered gently. His shadow trembled.
Carter opened his eyes.
"Dr. Frankenstein?" Amelia gasped.
"Hello, Miss Orchard." Carter smiled gently.
Dr. Frankenstein had woken up after two weeks of coma. He had made a recovery.
Despite his weak state, Dr. Frankenstein immediately went back to his work, making more medicines for the people, and helping the staff of the Institute.
The nurses and doctors worried about him greatly. But they didn't try to convince him. They couldn't when they saw a man desperately saved the city that they all treasured.

Carter focused on making the potions as it was the quickest way to help the infected. His presence wasn't required and the other medical practitioners of the Institute could take care of it.
The situation in Luandon calmed down again.
But how much could he fight back the pandemic where people all over the continent was rushing to Luandon for his help.
Luandon was the last frontier fighting against Black Blood. Dr. Frankenstein became the most sought out physician in all over the world.
Only he could beat Black Blood. Only he could save the people. Only he could triumph over death.
A week passed.
Carter returned to his office and sat on his chair silently.
He checked the current Synchronization.
[Shadow Apothecary's Synchronization]: 16,215.0%

[Acquired x15 Shadow Apothecary Champion Seeds]
[Acquired x1 Shadow Apothecary Dolls]
[A new aspect is ready to retain]
'The Synchronization is raising nicely. I would have gotten more if it wasn't for the fact that the Synchronization reset. The situation will continue to go back if I stay here. It is time for the Princes of Darkness to enter the playing field. There is a problem, however.'
Carter refrained from outright attacking the Necromancer because he wanted to farm some Synchronization.
Unfortunately, the Doll couldn't gain Synchronization on his behalf. So even if he equipped Shadow Apothecary to the Doll, it wouldn't give him Synchronization.
'Can't be too greedy. This much is enough. I need to set things in motion.'
A doll with a white coat appeared in his hand. The doll of the Shadow Apothecary. It was time for him to switch his role.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Carter put the doll away.
"Come in!"
Amelia opened the door gently. She brought a tray of food with her.
"I bring something for you to eat, Doctor." Amy said.
"Thank you, Miss Orchard. You can put it on the table." Carter said.
She did as she was told. But she didn't leave the room when she's done.
"Is there anything else?" Carter said.
"I... You shouldn't push yourself too much, Dr. Frankenstein." Amelia said. "We need you. But you need to take care of your health."
Carter sighed and smiled at the same time.
"I know. I will rest thoroughly, Miss Orchard." Carter said.
Amelia frowned.
Carter looked at her with a pair of innocent eyes. It was as if he didn't know what he did wrong.
He was acting, of course. He knew exactly why she was acting like that.
"You always said that. You always said you listen. But you don't. I know you are a genius, Doctor. You are the best of us. But it is always a good idea to listen to other's opinion."
'Show time...'
The white doctor scoffed.
"I know, Miss Orchard. I know. I understand what you're saying. I just decided to ignore it."
"What?! You!"
"Rest. Then what? Rest. And another may die. Rest. And someone lost a daughter. Rest. And a wife became a widow. Rest. And this day gets darker.
I can't rest, Miss Orchard. I can't. People need me.
I know I should take care of myself more. But I don't time for it. I don't have time when people are literally dying.
Tell me, Miss Orchard. When the fate of the entire world is on your shoulder, do you dare rest?"
Amelia clenched her fist and then released it. She couldn't refute. He was right.
"Why didn't you tell me your real name when we first met?" Amelia said.
"A traveler have ways to protect themselves. My goal was to treat Miss Fontaine. And that's exactly what I did. They didn't to know my real at that time. So are you."
"I thought we were friends. I thought... I thought you trusted me. You told me once that we need trust to succeed."
"Yes, Miss Orchard. I needed you to trust me for it to work. I didn't need to trust you. I only needed my mind."
Amelia teared up. "Miss Orchard this. Miss Orchard that. You don't even call my name anymore.
I cared for you. For fourteen days. I cleaned you. I helped you with your needs. And this is what I get?"
The white doctor sighed. "You will be compensated accordingly, Miss Orchard."
"I don't need your money."
Amelia grabbed the badge on her neck and threw it on the floor.
"Consider this my resignation. You can find yourself a new assistant."
Then she stormed out of the room.
Carter kept his conflicting gaze until he was sure that she's gone.
He smiled. 'And now the third wheel appeared.'
