Chapter 208 Victory Almost
The hospital corridors were filled with tension. Nurses moved quickly from one ward to another quickly.
Outside Ashley’s ward, the atmosphere was even heavier.
Heidi rushed down the hallway. Her wolf was restless inside her, reacting strongly to the fear in her heart. Even though she was in human form, her senses were heightened, and she could already smell the scent of illness and distress from a distance. Her heart pounded harder as she moved.
She grabbed the arm of a passing nurse.
“Where is Ashley Stone? What happened to her?” she demanded.
The nurse looked startled but quickly composed herself.
“She has been moved to emergency care,” she said. “Her condition worsened suddenly.”
Heidi’s face drained of color. “Emergency?”
“Yes,” the nurse replied. “Please wait here. The doctors are doing everything they can.”
But Heidi couldn’t stay still. Without another word, she pulled out her phone and dialed Damien’s number immediately.
The call connected quickly.
“Damien,” she said the moment he picked up. “Ashley is in emergency care. Her condition got worse.”
“What did you say?” Damien’s voice came through.
“She’s in emergency,” Heidi repeated . “You need to come now.”
“I’m on my way,” Damien said.
At that moment, somewhere across the city, Damien stood up abruptly from his seat in the middle of a meeting. The room fell silent immediately as his aura shifted. His Alpha presence filled the space without warning, making even the strongest wolves look at the ground.
“End this meeting,” he said coldly.
No one dared to argue.
“Yes, Alpha,” one of the pack elders said quickly.
Damien didn’t wait for anything else. He turned and walked out immediately.
The moment he stepped outside, his eyes flashed with a golden glow.
Ashley was even worse now.
His jaw tightened.
He got into his car and drove off without hesitation. His grip was tight on the steering wheel. His mind was already racing. Every part of him was focused on reaching the hospital as quickly as possible.
Back at the hospital, Heidi paced back and forth outside the emergency room. Her wolf wouldn’t calm down. She could feel the tension building inside her with every passing second.
“Why isn’t anyone telling me anything?” she muttered.
A nurse approached her.
“Please try to stay calm,” she said gently.
“How can I stay calm?” Heidi snapped “That is my niece in there!”
The nurse took a step back, sensing the shift in her aura. She didn’t respond further.
Minutes felt like hours.
Then finally, the emergency room doors opened.
A doctor stepped out, removing his gloves. His expression was serious but not as tense as before.
Heidi rushed forward immediately.
“How is she? Is she okay?” she asked urgently.
The doctor nodded “She is out of danger for now,”
Heidi let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.
“But her condition was critical,” the doctor continued. “The fever spiked dangerously. If she had arrived any later, it could have been worse.”
Heidi’s relief turned into anger almost instantly.
“How did this even happen?” she demanded.
Before the doctor could respond, a powerful presence suddenly filled the hallway.
Everyone froze.
Damien had arrived.
His aura spread through the space. His presence felt a bit suffocating, making every wolf present lower their heads. His eyes were cold.
“Where is she?” he asked.
“In the ward,” the doctor replied quickly. “She is stable now.”
Damien stepped forward.
“What happened?” he asked.
The doctor hesitated for a brief moment, then spoke “Her fever worsened because she was not properly monitored. She shouldn’t have been left alone in her condition.”
Damien’s expression darkened immediately.
“Are you saying this is our fault?” he asked. His voice was dangerously quiet.
“I am saying,” the doctor replied firmly, “that a child in that condition needs constant care. Leaving her unattended was irresponsible.”
The accusation was clear.
Heidi looked away slightly, not knowing what to say.
Damien’s jaw clenched tightly. His wolf pushed forward in anger, but he forced himself to remain in control.
“Where is Sophia?” he asked suddenly.
Heidi hesitated. “She... hasn’t answered her phone.”
Damien’s expression turned even colder. He pulled out his phone immediately and dialed Sophia’s number.
It rang and rang but there was no answer.
He tried again. Still nothing.
His grip tightened around the phone to the point his knuckles turned white.
“She’s ignoring me,” he said. His voice was filled with disbelief and anger.
Heidi frowned slightly. “Maybe she didn’t see-”
“No,” Damien cut her off “She saw it.”
His wolf growled inside him. His blood was practically boiling with anger.
“She’s doing this on purpose,” he said. “She’s neglecting her own daughter.”
The words were harsh, but in that moment, Damien believed them.
He tried calling again, and again but each time, it was the same result.
No answer.
His anger grew stronger with each failed attempt. His aura became heavier. The air around him felt charged, making it hard for anyone nearby to even breathe properly.
Meanwhile, in another ward, the atmosphere was completely different.
Sophia lay quietly on the bed. Her face was calm and her breathing was steady. Her phone rested on the table beside her, completely silent.
She had turned it off, cutting herself off from everything outside that room.
Beside her, Zade watched everything.
He had noticed the calls and the messages. He saw the way her phone had lit up repeatedly before she silenced it completely.
And he understood.
He smiled at the fact that Sophia was ignoring Damien’s calls. It made him feel satisfied.
“She’s really done with him,” he murmured softly to himself.
His wolf stirred inside him, feeling pleased. His wolf could sense the shift in Sophia’s emotions. For the first time, she wasn’t running back to Damien. She wasn’t responding, not giving in.
She was choosing distance, and that was enough for him.
Zade leaned back slightly in his chair. His eyes were still on Sophia as she slept peacefully. His hand remained wrapped around hers.
“You’re finally letting go,” he said quietly.
There was something possessive in his eyes now, something deep.
And for the first time, Zade felt something close to victory in his chest.
