Chapter 209 Something Is Changing
THIRD PERSON’S POV
Sophia sat up against the bed. She could feel her strength slowly returning, but her body still felt heavy, like she hadn’t fully come back to herself yet.
Zade stood by the window for a moment, watching her without saying anything. His wolf was calm on the surface, but inside, it was alert, focused entirely on the woman sitting in front of him. He turned slowly and walked toward her.
“Sophia,” he said.
She looked up at him.
“What is it?” she asked quietly.
He stopped beside the bed and looked at her.
“I don’t want to wait anymore,” he said.
Her brows furrowed in confusion “Wait for what?”
“For you to understand how serious I am,” he replied.
The words echoed in Sophia’s head.
Sophia’s heart tightened slightly, but she didn’t speak. She simply looked at him, waiting. She didn’t know what to say.
Zade took a slow breath, then spoke again. “You are the only woman I want.”
Her eyes widened slightly. She was caught off guard by how straightforward he was.
“I’m not saying this lightly,” he continued. “I’ve thought about it. I’ve already decided.”
Sophia’s fingers tightened against the blanket.
“Zade...” she started, but he didn’t let her finish.
“I told my mother about you,” he cut in.
The room seemed to grow quieter. Sophia couldn’t believe what she just heard.
“You did what?” she asked. Her voice was filled with disbelief.
“I told her everything,” he replied calmly. “Who you are, what you’ve been through, what you mean to me.”
Sophia stared at him in total shock. She was stunned to her core.
“Why would you do that?” she asked.
“Because I’m not playing games,” he said. “And I don’t hide the person I choose.”
His words were firm and genuine. They left no room for doubt.
“I don’t care about your past,” he continued. “I don’t care about Damien. I don’t care what anyone else thinks.”
Her chest tightened at the mention of Damien, but she stayed silent.
“I only care about you,” Zade said.
The intensity in his voice made it hard to look away. She felt hear heart race even faster.
“I will not marry anyone else,” he added. “If it’s not you, then it’s no one.”
Sophia’s breath caught slightly.
“You’re saying too much,” she said softly.
“I’m saying exactly what I mean,”
There was a long pause.
Sophia looked down. Her mind was racing fast. Her thoughts were in chaos. Her heart wasn’t calm, and her mind was even worse.
Everything felt too sudden, too overwhelming, and yet... she could not deny the sincerity in his words.
“You don’t even know what you’re asking for,” she said finally.
“I do,” he replied without hesitation.
“No,” she shook her head. “You don’t.”
Zade leaned a little closer. “Then tell me. Tell me what makes you think I don’t.”
Sophia didn’t answer, because she didn’t know where to begin.
Where would she even start?
The silence between them stretched, but it wasn’t empty. It was filled with everything they were both feeling.
-
Meanwhile, in another part of the hospital, the atmosphere was completely different.
Damien stood outside Ashley’s ward. His expression was dark and cold. His presence alone made the nurses nearby tense. Their movements became even more careful.
He had been there for hours, waiting, watching. Still, Sophia hadn’t come.
His phone was in his hand. The screen was dark now after so many unanswered calls. His wolf was restless, pacing inside him.
“Where is she?” he muttered under his breath.
Ashley slept quietly inside the room. Her condition was stable for now, but Damien’s focus was no longer just on her. His thoughts kept circling back to Sophia, to her silence, to her absence.
“She saw the messages,” he said to himself.
His jaw tightened.
“And she chose to ignore them.”
The thought made something inside him snap.
A nurse approached him cautiously.
“Sir, you should get some rest,” she said gently.
Damien didn’t even look at her.
“I’m fine,” he said coldly.
The nurse hesitated, then quickly left.
Time passed slowly.
Eventually, Damien let out a deep breath and turned away from the ward.
“I’ll be back,” he said to no one in particular.
Work still waited for him. He still had responsibilities he couldn’t ignore as Alpha.
But his mind wasn’t at peace, not even close.
Later that evening, Damien returned.
As he walked down the corridor, two familiar figures came into view.
He saw Patricia and Camila. They were standing near a corner, speaking quietly.
Damien stopped in front of them. His presence immediately drew their attention. Their eyes went wide with shock when they saw him.
“Damien,” Camila said/
“Where is Sophia?” he asked directly.
No greeting. No hesitation. He didn’t bother with pleasantries. He was way too annoyed for that.
Patricia’s expression didn’t change, but there was a slight pause before she responded.
“She’s not here,” she said.
Damien’s eyes narrowed “What do you mean she’s not here?”
“She hasn’t been around,” Patricia replied calmly.
Camila glanced at Patricia briefly, then looked back at Damien.
“I called her,” Damien said. His voice was hard. “She didn’t answer.”
Patricia nodded. “Then maybe she didn’t want to.”
The words were simple, but they carried weight.
Damien’s expression darkened. His wolf growled louder inside him.
“She’s Ashley’s mother,” he said “She doesn’t get to decide when she shows up.”
Patricia met his gaze without flinching. “And you don’t get to decide everything either”
The air between them grew tense. Damien was breathing heavily now.
Camila stepped in slightly, trying to ease the situation.
“Ashley is stable now,” she said gently. “That’s what matters.”
But Damien didn’t look convinced. His wolf stirred again inside him.
“If she comes, tell her I’m looking for her,” he said finally.
Patricia didn’t respond.
Damien turned and walked away. His steps were heavy and his mind was filled with unresolved anger.
After he left, Camila let out a small breath.
“That was tense,” she murmured.
Patricia nodded slightly. She thought about what just happened. She purposely left out the fact that Sophia was hospitalized. She didn’t want to tell him that.
“He still doesn’t understand,” she said.
“Understand what?” Camila asked.
“That he’s already losing her,” Patricia replied quietly.
Camila glanced at her, then looked away.
Back in Sophia’s ward, the atmosphere was calm again.
Zade sat beside the bed, watching her quietly. The earlier conversation was still unresolved.
Sophia hadn’t said yes but she hadn’t rejected him either.
And that was enough for now.
Patricia entered the room slowly, closing the door behind her.
Zade looked up immediately.
“How is she?” Patricia asked.
“She’s better,” Zade replied.
Patricia nodded, then looked at him more closely.
There was a long moment of silence.
“You stayed,” she said.
“Yes,” Zade replied simply.
“You didn’t leave even when things got complicated,” she added.
“No,” he said again.
Patricia studied him for a moment. Her wolf noticed how genuine Zade’s wolf was.
Then, slowly, her expression softened.
“I was wrong about you,” she said.
Zade didn’t react. He didn’t say anything.
“I thought you were just... interested,” she continued. “But this is more than that.”
Zade looked at her “It always was,”
Patricia nodded. “I won’t bother you anymore,”
Sophia looked up at that, surprised. Patricia turned to her and smiled at her.
“He’s serious,” she said.
Sophia didn’t respond, but her heart stirred again.
Something was changing and this time...
No one was standing in the way anymore.
