Chapter 1204 - 1203: Teaching
Norz stared at them with a confused look: "Where are you guys headed?"
"I’m going to the old Shaman to learn about herbs, Casa is just seeing me off, we’ll be back soon." With that, Casa had already moved the big stone aside, creating a gap just wide enough for an Orc to pass through. The two quickly slipped out.
Their cave wasn’t far from the old Shaman’s cave. Harry glanced at the stone blocking the entrance and raised his voice, "Shaman, it’s Harry."
Inside the cave, the old Shaman, who had been hunched over behind the big rock and using the faint light to read his precious herb manual, was startled by the sudden voice. He nearly dropped his beloved book to the ground.
After frantically clutching it to his chest, he carefully checked to ensure it hadn’t gotten dirty. Once reassured, he let out a sigh of relief, wrapped it in Beast Skin, and placed it back in his sleeping area.
He then gestured to a nearby Orc to move the big rock just enough to create a gap wide enough for one person to enter.
Harry glanced at Casa, "Head back now."
With that, he squeezed through the gap and entered.
"You brat, why are you here again? That little female from your Tribe—is she getting better?" The old Shaman asked as he walked further into the cave.
Harry followed behind him, "Much better, thanks to the herbs you gave us. She’s no longer running a fever."
The old Shaman nodded, "There might still be a few days of discomfort. Make sure she eats well, and after some time, she’ll be fine."
He pointed to his Beast Skin mat, "Sit down."
Harry sat down across from the old Shaman and looked at him solemnly, "Shaman, I’ve come this time hoping you could teach me about the herbs found in this desert."
The old Shaman gave him a curious look, "Why the sudden interest in herbs? It’s the cold season—there are no herbs to gather now."
Harry gave a wry smile, "I know. But ever since I arrived in the desert, my herbs were swept away by a sandstorm. Without herbs, I’m practically just an ordinary Orc now, even though I’m supposed to be a Shaman."
"Once the cold season is over, we’ll continue our travels. We’ll still be journeying through the desert for a while. I want to learn about the herbs here. At the very least, as a Shaman, I should have the means to treat my Tribe members when they fall ill."
The old Shaman finally looked up and studied the young Shaman in front of him with a serious gaze. Smiling, he nodded, "You’re about the same age as Shaman Ji Nuan, but you’re not as diligent as she is. Before the cold season started, Ji Nuan had already been coming to me to learn about the unique herbs of the desert."
"She also gathered a lot of herbs before the cold season arrived. Shamans travel to broaden their knowledge of herbs and illnesses, after all."
After saying this, he stood up, "Come on. I’ll take you to familiarize yourself with the unique herbs of our desert."
Seeing Harry’s determination to learn, the old Shaman was more than happy to teach him. However, unlike Ji Nuan, Harry didn’t have pictures or notes to rely on. It took him quite some time to memorize the appearances, growth habits, and healing properties of all the herbs.
Meanwhile, over on Ji Nuan’s side, she had slept all the way until it was almost time for the midday meal.
Her head, nestled in what resembled the Giggly Beast’s nest, nuzzled against the Orc’s chest as she mumbled groggily, "What time is it now?"
Xiu Yan chuckled softly, "It’s almost time for lunch."
Ji Nuan lingered lazily on the heated platform for a while longer before finally sitting up, still wrapped in her blanket.
She reached out an arm to grab her clothes but shivered as goosebumps rose on her exposed skin. This was exactly why she hated getting out of bed.
