Chapter 42: Ch-42: Entering the Dunegon
The place turned dead silent after the people there witnessed this shocking scene and Victor’s terrifying prowess.
"Warlock..." Daphne looked at him with a passionate gaze, like a child before her hero or a teenager before her idol.
"I cannot thank you enough for protecting Meteor City and the innocent citizens that live here, Senior Warlock." The Lord of Meteor City was the first to snap out of his daze and spoke with his head lowered.
"Thank you for defeating the monster, Senior Warlock!" The guards also bowed to him at a 90-degree angle.
"There’s no need to thank me. I could not allow an entire city to fall and thousands of innocent people to die because of it, and moreover, I had my own reasons for doing it," Victor said to them.
"If you don’t mind, I have a request to make," Victor said calmly.
"Ah, what is it, Senior Warlock? If it is within my capability, I will fulfill it," the Lord said in a cautious tone.
"I want to enter that place," Victor pointed at a nearby graveyard which seemed to be surrounded by thick walls.
"This..." the city Lord was a bit conflicted by his request, as that was the place where his ancestors were buried, and bringing an outsider there seemed like desecrating it.
"Senior Warlock, can you tell us why you want to go there?" Daphne, seeing her father’s hesitation, asked.
"Hmm, I can sense a hidden dungeon there," Victor said calmly. He had already figured out where the entrance of the dungeon was from the map he had bought at the auction.
"What?!" The Lord and his daughter both exclaimed upon hearing his words, and even the guards looked surprised.
Is he lying...? No, what am I thinking? Why would he lie just to enter the graveyard? the Lord thought and shook his head.
"Senior, how can you tell? Is it your special ability or something?" Daphne asked enthusiastically. This was her first time seeing a Warlock; she had only heard how formidable they were, so seeing one for the first time made her an instant fangirl.
"Daphne, that’s rude. Don’t ask such things. I apologize, Senior," the Lord said as he broke out in a cold sweat, as he had heard that some Warlocks would kill others if someone asked about their skills.
"It’s fine. The reason I know is because of an item," Victor replied. Even though the Lord was curious about what item it was, he did not dare ask anything further.
"Thank you, Senior. If you can help us solve our problem, I will definitely compensate you from the treasure," the Lord promised, and Victor just nodded.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the graveyard. Victor immediately sensed a high magical signature and walked in front of a grave, which according to the map was the entrance.
"We need to dig it up. The portal is below," Victor said, and everyone’s expression instantly changed as they recognized the grave.
"Senior, is it really here?" the Lord asked, suppressing his hesitation.
"Yes, I am sure," Victor replied without hesitation.
"Dig it," the Lord said to the guards after gritting his teeth.
"But Lord, that’s—" one of the guards wanted to argue, but a glare from the Lord stopped him. They nodded and started digging the grave.
"Something wrong?" Victor asked, seeing their interaction.
"No, the grave you told us to dig up is the grave of my father and the former Lord of Meteor City," the Lord replied, and Victor’s expression turned a bit awkward. He did not know what to say, so he kept silent as he continued watching the soldiers dig.
Woosh!
As soon as they finished digging the grave, instead of a corpse, there was a swirling red portal.
"There is really a portal here!" Daphne said with wide eyes, looking at the circular portal.
Heavens, no wonder I could not find the portal... and where is the corpse of my father? Don’t tell me it got swallowed inside, the Lord cursed in his mind as he looked at the portal.
Victor did not say anything and stepped forward, touched the portal, and got sucked in.
The guards looked at each other and asked, "Lord, should we also go inside?"
The Lord was about to say something when he saw that his daughter had already touched the portal and slowly got sucked in. "This reckless girl... quickly follow!"
The Lord hurried toward the portal and got sucked in, followed by the soldiers.
As soon as Victor entered the dungeon, the first thing he saw was a complete wasteland that resembled a modern city. Among the rubble of skyscrapers and broken vehicles, there were corpses of modern soldiers clutching rifles and machine guns. Other soldiers seemed to be clad in knight armor, with swords embedded into their bodies. The skin of the soldiers had turned green in color for some reason. It resembled the setting of an apocalyptic scenario.
Woosh! Woosh!
Victor turned around and saw the Lord, his daughter, and a few soldiers nervously emerging from the portal.
"Woah, it seems like a different world," Daphne said with awe in her voice. This was her first time entering a dungeon.
"This dungeon resembles the battlefield from the first time when mana arrived," the Lord said with a frown as he took in his surroundings.
Grrr...
Victor’s expression changed when he heard the growl and used his pupil technique to look at the corpses, which started to twitch.
[Zombie Gunmen (Level 50)]
[Zombie Knight (Level 45)]
"Zombies..." Victor frowned upon seeing this, and his expression changed when he used his Danger Zone skill. He immediately detected that they were surrounded by thousands of corpses, which were starting to move.
"Quickly, exit the dungeon. There are at least thousands of corpses here which are actually zombies, and they have us surrounded," Victor said, and everyone’s expression changed.
"What? Thousands?!" the Lord broke out in a cold sweat and grabbed his daughter’s hand and was about to leave, but the portal vanished and a new notification appeared on everyone’s retina.
[Ding Dong]
[Exit has been blocked]
[Defeat the Territory Lord to gain access to the exit portal]
"Damn!" the Lord cursed and thought, ’Where did these zombies come from? I thought we were facing normal beasts!’
"Quickly, get on top of a building," Victor frowned and said. The others followed Victor’s orders without hesitation and quickly ran toward a building.
Victor, on the other hand, turned into black lightning and shot into the sky. He frowned as he saw all the zombies rise up and start walking toward the building where everyone had taken shelter.
"Hmm..." Victor raised an eyebrow when he saw the drops.
[Zombie Knight]
[Tier: 0]
[Level: 40]
[Drops: No drops until host defeats the Territory Lord]
[Zombie Gunmen]
[Tier: 0]
[Level: 55]
[Drops: No drops until host defeats the Territory Lord]
"Interesting," Victor smirked seeing this and materialized on the roof.
"Senior, what should we do?" the Lord said as his palms and forehead were covered in sweat, and there was endless horror in his eyes as he saw the large army moving toward them.
Bang! Bang!
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Bullets and sword slashes rained down on the building.
"Damn, if this goes on, the building will be destroyed," the Lord said as he and the guards used all sorts of defensive equipment to resist the attacks. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Victor standing still and not doing anything, much to his frustration.
The reason Victor did not act yet was because he was waiting for the zombies to cluster together so that when he attacked, more of them would be caught in his attack.
He kicked off the stone platform, and in an instant, he soared into the sky, turning into black lightning. He watched the endless horde of zombies arriving from the distance and continuing to attack.
"This army sure is large. If it were me before I got the bloodline, I wouldn’t be able to face it even if they gave me countless treasures... but now..." Victor mumbled as his eyes narrowed, and then the sky started to darken, and his eyes flickered with black lightning, along with his entire body.
"Giant Axe of Purgatory Lightning."
Rumble...
As Victor muttered these words, the entire air seemed to start buzzing, and black lightning began to rumble violently in the sky.
"What the hell is going on?" Daphne said as she fell on her butt, but then not only her, but all the onlookers’ eyes widened and their jaws dropped to the ground, because the next scene happening in front of them was godlike.
Three giant black axes made of lightning emerged from the sky, each around 60 meters long, and started falling toward the army of zombies below. The brainless zombies ignored the danger and were still frantically charging toward them while attacking.
BOOOOM!
BOOOOM!
BOOOOM!
Loud explosions resounded across the field, followed by blinding light.
"Heavens..." the Lord felt his legs go weak and fell to the ground. The soldiers were no better.
