Chapter 36: Round Two
Eros played with the sword a little more, swinging it around and getting a feel of it. While he had no formal sword education and wasn’t privy to any sword technique, sword training back at the Yin and Yang Sect had been a regular practice.
He couldn’t remember most of what he’d learned, but the little that stuck was all he needed. After all, the shadow copies weren’t exactly versed in sword combat, that much had been obvious.
After a while of observing, Eros figured that it took roughly ten seconds to go from a fully powered great sword to the thinnest and sharpest long sword. While ten seconds were extremely long in actual combat, he didn’t necessarily have to push the transformation to the extreme.
Another thing he realised was that the copies of him from earlier hadn’t been able to switch the size of the sword.
This could be because they were unable to replicate the abilities of weapons. Or they weren’t able to use those abilities. Either way, it would prove to be an advantage to Eros in the fight that would happen soon.
"Ha–have you ever wielded a sword in your life?" A tiny voice asked, reminding him of the little creature that was still around.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"You’re doing it all wrong, the posture, the stance, the swing everything is wrong."
Eros’ eyes twitched; he had been feeling good about himself a moment ago and now this ’thing’ was trying to destroy his confidence.
"I can’t believe I picked such a talentless wielder, if only I hadn’t been sealed for so long I wouldn’t have been that desperate." The fairy-like creature said in a low voice, but still loud enough for Eros to catch.
At this point, he seriously doubted that this creature would be of any use to him. After all, he had already gotten the hang of the sword, there was hardly any need for her.
’If only I could get rid of her.’ The moment this thought appeared in his mind, she began to fade away. Eros noticed this and his eyes widened.
"Wait, wait a minute. Don’t send me away," she pleaded when she realised her body was disappearing.
As for Eros, he was just surprised that he even had such an ability to speak of. He couldn’t help but thank whoever had created the sword; this ability was a lifesaver.
"I promise I won’t say another word." Looking at her, he couldn’t help but take a little pity on the poor thing. She must’ve been really frightened of wherever he was sending her.
With a single thought, he was able to stop her frame from fading away, prompting her to let out a sigh of relief.
"Another word from you."
She made a zipping motion over her mouth and nodded like a little girl. All of a sudden the world seemed quiet and Eros could finally focus on the task at hand.
He walked towards the circle, stopping at the edge. Before entering he took a look at his body’s condition, the wound across his shoulder had miraculously stopped bleeding and this came as a surprise. After all, it wasn’t a small wound.
"Is it because of my perfect body?" He whispered to himself. After thinking for a while, he realised that that was the most logical conclusion.
"So it heals this fast..." He couldn’t help but chuckle.
A large grin appeared on his face as he couldn’t wait to find out what more perks this new body brought.
The dragon aura was still up, but he had reduced the intensity to the barest minimum. Only now that he stood before his trial did he increase it.
The air tightened around him, his muscles coiling with power as he clenched his hand around the hilt of the sword.
Then finally, he took a step forward—it was time for round two.
Liquid darkness poured out of the veins running across the floor in the circle. Eros didn’t delay, before the shadow copy even formed, he was already in front of it. He gripped his sword ready to attack.
The clone opened its eyes—just in time to see a silvery blade cutting toward it.
It didn’t have enough time to parry as the blade sliced into its body. However, the sword wasn’t able to cut through completely, getting stuck within the shadowy clone’s body.
The clone didn’t seem fazed by the fact that it had almost been cut in half.
It saw an opportunity as Eros’ sword was now stuck and they were at extremely close range.
It immediately brought its sword down on Eros in a bid to end his life.
However, Eros wasn’t going to go down that easily. He infused yin nexus into the sword causing it to grow smaller and thinner.
Because of this change in size, he was able to remove it from the wound easily, parrying the attack just before it landed. Still, the attack caused his hands to vibrate and his legs quaked. He was once again reminded that his physical condition wasn’t in its best state.
He quickly pushed himself backwards to gain some distance.
The clone didn’t seem to be in pain, but the mere fact that its upper body seemed like it was going to slide off its lower body told Eros that he had done sufficient damage.
Any normal human would’ve died from the attack, but this creature was neither normal nor human.
Liquid darkness flowed towards the wound in an attempt to close it. The process wasn’t instantaneous, so Eros wasn’t too bothered.
The second clone wasn’t yet formed and the first one could hardly move without breaking the fragile equilibrium that held its body together.
Eros’ eyes narrowed as he finally saw his chance. Without wasting another second he began running towards the orb in the centre of it all.
However, the instant he did, the air around him began to change as tension set in. Eros was too preoccupied to notice this.
The liquid darkness became more frantic, forming clones of him faster than ever. By the time Eros turned his head back, he found more than five shadowy clones running towards him. Though, at their current pace, he had nothing to worry about. He’d get to the orb before any of them reached him.
Then all of a sudden, the orb stopped forming clones.
Instantly, a very bad feeling welled up in Eros’ mind.
