Demon Slayer: Rise of The First Werewolf

Chapter 87: Spark

Adrain invited the witch inside, she didn’t say much and waved her hand, a beautiful black wooden box appeared.

" This is?" He asked, he couldn’t sense any esper inside the box meaning whatever is in there is unlikely to be a magical item.

" A gift from the sister, with it I bring a message. Your actions have caused her much distress.

She is displeased with how you’re handling things, she had warned you of the danger looming over your head yet you have ignored her and did what she warned you not to.

Because of that, she has been forced to do things she was not ready to do, she asks you to listen to her.

You might not understand the threat that is after you but she does. Draw less attention lest the old ones find you again."

Adrain clicked his tongue, " Well you tell her I’m not a child, she can’t tell me what to do, especially when she was the one who just left."

He argued but to the witch, he sounded like an angry rebellious teenager and considering her age, the boy might as well be an infant to her.

’ Cute, I understand why the sister is so adamant about protecting this child, the power inside him is immense too.’ the witch thought.

" If I may advice you child of blood, listen to the sister of mine, her actions are of love and care for you."

He clicked his tongue, he understood that but being told what to do didn’t sit right with him, it felt limiting.

" Can you at least tell me who are the people after my life?" He asked.

" Knowledge is a curse child of blood, there are words not to be spoken and things not to be thought.

You will know when sister of mine thinks it’s time, until then, do as she says and lay low lest the old ones find you."

Adrain was about to continue asking but she faded like mist and disappeared, he could no longer sense her.

He put his blood on the wooden box and it opened with a click, he opened it and inside was a piece of paper and rings.

Next to those rings was the tip of a tail of a white fox, Adrain couldn’t sense what’s so special about these things.

He read the piece of paper then he understood. These rings were forged with the essence blood of a nine tailed fox, there were only 20 rings though.

They had the power of illusions and could hide the aura of the wearer and had extra enchantments.

Those enchantments made the wearer unrecognisable or rather inconspicuous to those who seek them harm, even those who don’t will find it hard to notice them.

They were very powerful artefact if you wanted to go to hiding, basically an upgraded version of the cloak spell.

According to the piece of paper, nobody below level 4 should be able to sense them, even those at or above would need to be close by.

But it also explained that Adrain was an exception, as the primordial, his aura was too strong.

He was like a walking beacon, the rings wouldn’t work on him which is where the tail comes in.

Inside the city, he couldn’t be sensed even at close range as long as he had the tail on him but things would be different once he left the city.

It can hide him for a while but if he stayed away for too long, eventually those old ones would sense him.

’ She really want me to stay hidden like a rat doesn’t she?’ he felt his anger rise, a sense of pride he never knew he had told him this was an insult.

He almost crushed the rings then he stopped, ’ What am I thinking? These are good things.’

He closed the box and sat down then he started thinking about his next moves. Meggie was right.

If he wanted to live freely, he needed strength which he severely lacked right now, he had exposed himself to the vampires and others in the city.

He has been attacked by wraiths which were sent by a very powerful being whom he believes is one of the old ones.

If things progress like this, I really will draw too much unwanted attention, I need to lay low, this war with the vampires will need to pause.

Adrain sighed, he had drafted his next cause of action for the foreseeable future, now he just waited to inform his pack.

Eve was having dinner with her family like always, unlike her they couldn’t see ghosts but her parents knew she could.

While they didn’t say anything, knowing there were ghosts around them made then uncomfortable.

She had manifested them once revealing them to her parents and the terrifying appearance of the ghosts made her parents even more scared.

Since that day she had never once showed the ghosts to them again but they still felt uncomfortable around her and she could see it.

She pretended not to to keep the peace but it bothered her, they were her parents, the people she was supposed to lean on.

" Can you pass on the salt mom?" Her mother passed her the salt but when their fingers touched she flinched.

" You’re getting much colder Eve and you complexion is much paler, are you certain you’re alright."

Eve nodded, " Yes mom I’m fine, it’s nothing I promise." He tried to reassure her but she could still see the worry she fear in her eyes.

They continued eating in silence then Eve paused, she turned her head towards the door and her face went pale.

" No." She whispered with fear in her voice, her parents grew more worried

" Are you okay sweetie?" Her mother asked.

" What is it Eve, talk to us." Urged her father but her heart was seized by fear and guilt, she looked at them and cried.

" I’m so sorry, this is all my fault." She cried even more and the dimmed, the ghosts were terrified

Two figures clad in dark cloaks appeared in front of the door but they didn’t come in. They knocked gently and Eve was about to tell her parents to not answer.

" Come in." Her brother answered in a flat tone like a robot and the door swung open, they took a step inside.

Even realised, it was too late.

Near Annie’s house, two women stood over two bodies whose hearts had been ripped out.

" We should report this." Suki told her partner Athi, the two of them had been assigned to protect Annie.
