Chapter 78: Fog Rising
Those two moves weren’t enough to take down the two mutated Gadra but they did damage them a lot.
The gorilla’s internal organs were not as durable as its skin but they were still tough, while damaged, they could still work.
The snakes situation was different, it might be a mutated Gadra but it was still a cold blooded animal.
A rapid drop in temperature caused its body to slow down to preserve energy but the snake was strong, the ice started cracking.
He ignored it and focused on the gorilla, it roared in anger and punched him, he dodged and its giant fist shattered the ground.
His body flashed and he appeared in front of it, before the gorilla could act he hit on the stomach with an open palm.
His arms blurred and he hit it more than a dozen times in a single second, the gorilla staggered back.
It threw up blood but refused to back down, Adrian wondered why it was fighting so relentlessly.
Then he followed its gaze and on the lake there was a blue pinkish lotus floating gently above the water.
He understood, that was an esper plant or whatever they were called, these things were quite useful to mutated Gadra.
No wonder this gorilla was refusing to retreat, or perhaps it no longer could. It tried to stand up but failed.
It went back on its knees and glared at him with hatred. Adrain was done playing so he conjured a lunar spear.
He threw it with all of his might and it flashed like a bolt of lightning. It pierced through the gorilla’s heart.
The giant creature opened its mouth as if to roar but no voice came out and it fell forward and died.
He turned towards the snake, it was about to break out of the ice, he helped it and shattered the ice.
The snake was not like the gorilla, it tried to retreat back under the water but its body was sluggish.
It was starting to enter brumation, he made chains of lunar energy and bound the snake before it could go under.
Then those chains grew spikes and he pulled them, the sound of grinding metal assaulted his ears.
The chains cut through the snake’s scales like a chainsaw and in a few seconds it was dissected into a dozen pieces.
Adrain took out both the hearts then took the lotus as well, while it wouldn’t help him like this, he can sell it to a witch.
Witches can use plants like these to make potions, some potions can even increase the volume of ones esper thus becoming another shortcut similar to the black elf tree roots.
After taking everything he followed the river and ran downstream, the lake where the monsters lived was a bit far from the waterfall.
After traveling for nearly a hundred kilometres he finally saw the lake, it was peaceful without a single ripple.
He realised this place was close to the camp site where he saw those campers and was also not far from the mine, barely 10 kilometres away.
Adrain climbed a tree and watch the lake but no matter how hard he wrecked his brain he couldn’t think of a single way to bait the Gadra.
The book said it liked human meat, preferably a live and fresh human, Adrain paused then he grinned.
" Guys I’m going to take a leak." One of the campers stood up and went behind the bushes where others couldn’t see her.
Adrain watched the woman as she lowered her pants, ’ This makes me feel like a creep.’ he thought.
But he felt nothing, to him it was like seeing a chicken peeing, he really thought less of humans now.
The only human and possibly the only person that can turn him on is Annie, the rest were no different from bumbling animals to him.
Adrain jumped and startled the woman but before she could scream her eyes met his silver glowing eyes.
Standing on top of tree hidden by the cloak of the night’s darkness, Adrain waited patiently.
The woman walked towards the lake and went inside but she didn’t go far, that would defeat the purpose.
She stood near the edge where the water barely reached her knees but that should be enough.
As expected, in less than a minute, Adrain caught a scent swimming rapidly towards the woman.
Yet its movements did not even cause a ripple on the tranquil lake. Adrain formed a bow using his lunar energy.
Then he drew the string and a silver arrow matching the bow formed. Did Adrain know archery? No.
Did that matter? Also no. He could just control the arrow with his mind, the bow was merely for aesthetics.
The Gadra reached within four metres of the woman then jumped, it flew out of the water with its mouth wide open.
Yet the fear and panic it usually saw on its victims was not there, the woman’s eyes were blank.
Its low intelligence didn’t allow it to think beyond that, all it saw was food and nothing else.
Then it caught a flash of silver on its left and before it could even register what’s happening, its minds went blank.
Adrain jumped off the tree, the arrow had pierced through the Gadra’s head and killed it instantly.
He walked towards the Gadra and it was an ugly thing, it had a brown slimy skin, a head like that of an eel with countless thin and razor sharp teeth.
It had four thin and springly legs with feet like those of a frog and a long tail that opened at its end like a whale’s tail.
It had thin spikes growing along its spine all the way to end of its tail. The entire length of its body including its tail was nearly 10 metres long.
This Gadra had no name, it fell under a group called the fiends, there were too many Gadra species.
Some are unique Gadra born under special circumstances, not all of them can be named and those that aren’t are collectively known as fiends.
Adrain compelled the woman to go back to her friends and forget what had happened here and she did.
Adrain dug out the heart of the fiend Gadra and placed it on a separate plastic bag, he now had three plastic bags with massive hearts.
He was about to turn and walk off when his hair stood on end, he felt goosebumps all over his body.
Then fog rose over the lake and covered it like a blanket. Through the fog he saw shadowy figures with glowing embers for eyes.
" Fuck."
